Overview of eDAT



Overview of eDAT

Evolved Data Analysis Tool (eDAT) is a drive test and call trace data post-processing and analysis tool that enables RF engineers to analyze, optimize and troubleshoot CDMA, EVDO, GSM, WCDMA and LTE networks

Correlate and analyze drive test and call trace data for technology introduction and product deployments

eDAT is an internal tool for ALU engineers only

Project Explorer

Project Explorer window provides a summary view of the data used to create the project

1. Project: Collection of Studies. In this example, project name is “Project1”

2. Study Information: Contains data for a specific session. Provides the name

of the study/file(s). Double-click on study name to rename.

3. Timeline: Provides the date and time for the study/file(s). To zoom in/out,

use mouse wheel or double left click for zoom in and double right click for

zoom out.

4. Journals: Represents a collection of messages for a particular device. In this

example, there are two journals – one for GPS data and one for Agilent UE

data

5. Drop files to create new project: From Windows Explorer, file(s) can be

dragged directly into a new project

6. Delete files: Drag journals here to remove them from the project

7. Composite Journal: Collection of journals containing the same kind of data

from multiple input files

Metrics Explorer

Once a project is created, the metrics explorer window can be used to analyze the various metrics available in the project

To display data for a particular metric, double click on the metric

The default display type (map, grid, scatter, histogram) is shown on the left of the metric name

In the Metrics Explorer window, the user has the ability to filter the list of metrics based on specific criteria or search the list of metrics using keywords

Once a view is displayed (map, grid, histogram, scatter plot), additional metrics can be added to the same view by dragging and dropping new metrics

For binned metrics, eDAT allows users to dynamically modify binning size from the metric legend display

eDAT allows synchronization of data display across multiple windows Enable or disable view synchronization using the icon in the tool bar

Based on specific deployment needs, there is a need to filter metrics based on criteria specified in the deployment statements of work

eDAT allows users to custom define metric filters

Data Display – Filter for Parameterized Metrics

For metrics with parameterized values (e.g. RSRP of Specific Cell ID), the individual parameters (e.g. Cell ID) is listed in the Filter tab for each metric

Allows user to display metric for all parameter or for a subset of the parameters

Provides capability to compare one metric’s values against another metric’s values. Supported for Binned and Temporal Metrics.

Journal Selector

The "Journal Selector" presents a list of journals

That can be viewed in Message Explorer and Message Flow

Allows the user to select/view journals across projects and studies at one time

Shows key information about all the journals in the projects that are selected:

Files included in each project

Trace Session Reference for each data file

Trace Record Session Reference for each data file

Data Type (Agilent, NodeB, etc.)

User can change the settings of the “Journal Selector” grid and save the settings for later use

The Info Explorer tab displays information about a metric, message or a statistics when it is selected in the metric view, message explorer or message flow

Exporting Data

eDAT allows export of data in multiple formats

All plots (maps, scatter plots, histograms) can be exported as an image (bmp, jpg, png, gif formats) file

Maps can be exported as a PB MapInfo MIF file, Google Earth kml file format

Grid display can be exported in Microsoft Excel or csv file format

Message Explorer data can be exported in Excel, csv or PDF file formats

Message Flow data can be exported as an image (pdf, xls, bmp, jpg, png, gif, tiff, wmf formats) file

Reports can be exported in Excel, PDF or Word

Each Metric has a default theme – which can be modified by a user (if needed)

To create a new project:

Select File New menu option

"Select the files to add to the project" dialog will be displayed

Browse to the files you wish to open. Multi-select files by using the Ctrl+ or Shift+ keys

Creating projects with data files in seekable zip (*.zip) is much faster

Syncrotest tool creates data files in szip format

Alternatively, use szip utility within eDAT to convert files to seekable zip format (Tools Launch SZip)

Accessing data from a shared drive is slower Copy data to local drive

Once project is created, it can be saved with a user specified name:

Select “Save Project1 as” menu option

Saved project shows up under “Recent Projects” link

The Manage Files dialog gives the user greater control over the data being imported into project(s)

eDAT allows users to create a new cells location data or import an eCAT file that is already created:

New File: Create a new Cell Info file by manually entering cell information.

Edit File: Edit an existing file. Files can be files created manually or eCAT files created in other tools.

Import Into: Select the cell info file to import into the selected project

Export From: Export the cell information from the current project.

Edit For: Edit cell information that is currently being used by the project. This does not edit or change the file that was imported.
