Join our 4th of July Bottle Brigade!Parade day volunteers neededOnce again, the Orange Township Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4 will pass right by St. Andrew’s. As in past years, we’ll be distributing water along the parade route, and need your help as we serve our community by offering cold water to parade-goers on what is likely to be a hot day.Many thanks to all of you who took case of water to label! (And remember, if you didn’t return your water today, we need it returned to the church no later than Wednesday, July 1!) We now need your help to distribute water along the parade route on July 4.The parade begins at 10 a.m., and volunteers should be at the church no later than 9 a.m., when the roads will close following the Freedom 4-Miler, which begins at 8 a.m. We also need large coolers to ice down water bottles; large wheeled coolers or child wagons for water distribution; and tents and/or cabanas for shade. Young Saints in worship We’re excited to have our Young Saints, who are currently taking a hiatus from Godly Play, join us for the entire worship service this summer! Above, two boys lift their voices with the congregation in song during the 9:30 a.m. service. We are offering a nursery and activities for 4-year-olds and younger at both the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services, and still need volunteers to serve our youngest members one Sunday a month. Urgent Sunday ministry needsThe following ministries currently have urgent needs for Sunday morning volunteers. Take a look and consider whether God may be calling you go serve!

Chalicists & Layreaders @ 8 a.m. There is a current need for folks to administer the chalice at the 8 a.m. service on the third Sunday of the month. Duties include reading the Scripture lessons, leading the Prayers of the People, and serving the wine at communion.

Ushers @ 9:30 a.m. The Ushers Ministry has a current need for ushers for the 9:30 a.m. service on the third Sunday of the month. Ushers greet parishioners and help maintain an orderly flow to the worship service. They distribute bulletins, collect the offering and direct people to the altar.

Liberia Ministry celebration July 11Partners in Ministry in Liberia (PIMIL), which many St. Andrew’s parishioners were instrumental in starting, will celebrate it’s 10th anniversary with a luncheon on Saturday, July 11, at 12:30 p.m., and invites you to them. This family event will include Liberian and American food, activities for children, and a silent auction. There will also be photos and letters from PIMIL students, a speaker, and presentation showing the remarkable achievements of the ministry’s Liberian students. Tickets are $15 per adult and $5 per child or youth. You can obtain tickets by calling Vicky at St. John’s Church, 614-846-5180, or Mother Abby Flemister, 614-891-2960. Tickets can also be purchased at the event. All money raised will be used to fund scholarships allowing Liberian children to attend school, and assist the many orphans of the Ebola epidemic.

Prayers for the ChurchFollowing the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, please pray for Bishop Andrew Haruhisa Iso and for the priests, deacons, religious, and laity of the Diocese of Osaka, one of the 11 dioceses in the Nippon Sei Koi Kai (The Holy Catholic Church in Japan, also know as The Anglican Communion in Japan). Anglican worship in Osaka began in 1859 with the arrival of Episcopal missionaries from the U.S.A. The first General Synod of the missionary church in Japan was held in 1887, in Osaka, when the Holy Catholic Church in Japan was established. Osaka Diocese was created in 1923 and the first Japanese-born bishop of the diocese was consecrated later that year. Many of the church buildings and properties were destroyed by bombing and vandalism during World War II.

As of 2009, the Diocese had 22 churches, five mission stations, and one chapel, with some 3,000 members and 500 pupils in the various Sunday schools. Those numbers represent a very small fraction of the 11 million people who live in the Greater Osaka Area, Japan’s second largest city. Despite the small size, the Diocese operates kindergartens, elementary schools, junior and senior high schools, a junior college, three universities, a maternity hospital, and homes for orphans and the elderly. Please pray especially for the Diocese’s on-going work for peace and reconciliation and outreach to the poor and marginalized.

Lord God, may they do their jobs with respect for You, the maker of earth.

Prayer for the election of a bishopAlmighty God, Our Heavenly Father, we humbly ask for the grace of discernment as our Diocesan Standing Committee engages in the task of discerning and recommending to the ACNA House of Bishops the candidates for the next Bishop.

We lift our retiring Bishop Roger Ames up to you, thanking you for his faithful stewardship as the founding Bishop of our Diocese. Continue to bless him and Gretsie in these days of transition.

May you grace us in the Diocese of the Great Lakes with the wisdom to discern and embrace the next Bishop that you have planned for us. We pray this in the name of Jesus our Savior and Lord who is one with you and the Holy Spirit now and forever, Amen.
