• Ecuador Faculty Lead Program is a joint venture between the Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Communications.
• You would not only learn about the natural history of Ecuador including the Galapagos but also a bit about Ecuadoran history and culture.
Begin by learning (in the classroom) a bit about…
• some of the richest and most complex communities of plant and animal life in the world.
• many species found nowhere else in the world.
• Ecuadoran history and culture.
Then the learning adventure begins…
• We will fly to Quito, Ecuador and from there we will explore:
RainforestsCloud Forests
Mangrove Swamps
PáramoHigh mountain biome with a vegetation composed mainly of giant rosette plants, shrubs and grasses.
And then, the Galapagos!
What’s the benefit?
• You can earn 3 credits (study while you travel)
• See things you might not other wise see
• Learn a bit more about yourself
• It’s an experience of a life time!
Tentative ItineraryDay 1-2 Quito (city tour, San Francisco Cathedral, museums)Day 3 Mitad Del Mundo (visit to equator and Otavalo Market)Day 4-8 Forest Adventures (butterflies, canopy walks, waterfalls, etc.)Day 9 Patate Indigenous community (dancing, traditional food, etc.)Day 11-12 Cuenca (city tour, museums, shopping at the markets)Day 13 Cajas National ParkDay 14 Mangrove swamps, tour of cacao and banana plantationsDay 15-19 Galapagos Islands (dolphin swimming, beaches, sea turtles)Day 20 Guayaquil
• Eligibility:Prerequisite: Biology 120 or 141 or Speech 424Cumulative GPA of 2.5Signature of Instructor on applicationMust be at least 18 years of age
• Step 1: Look into your finances (costs are estimated to be under $4,000 for 3 week trip), financial aide may be available!
• Step 2: See me to let me know of your interest so I can get your name on “the list.” We are limited to 30 students!

• Step 5: Register Spring 2013 for Biology Travel Study 491.• Step 6: Attend 10 in-class lectures to prepare for the experience.• Step 7: Depart the week after finals (spring 2013).
