Work Experience

Research Interests

I am interested in language and culture, specifically the identity formation of minoritized youth

as it relates to immigration, status and language. I intend to engage in critical reflections of my

work and educational issues relevant to diversity, social justice and equity. The urban youth I

work with experience racial profiling, homelessness, gentrification, military recruiting, city

pollution, and limited access to resources. They are affected by immigration and the

undocumented status of their families. It is important for me to discuss social issues that affect

their lives, education, and development. To not acknowledge the social issues, means that those

issues do not exist or are inevitable aspects of life that are not subject to reform. I would like to

advance my understanding of educational policy and develop my personal practice to facilitate

change in the school and community.

“Whatever affects one directly, affects all directly. For some strange reason I can never be what I ought

to be until you are what you ought to be. And you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I

ought to be- this is the interrelated structure of reality.”

- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
