Foreword Dear Members, Dear Friends, We are pleased to welcome you to the 14th ECPC Annual Congress and Annual General Meeting. We are the largest European cancer patients’ umbrella organisation and as such we pride ourselves on being the voice of cancer patients in Europe. Working together with over 400 members covering all 28 EU member states and many other non-European countries our mission is to empower and inform citizens affected by cancer. The annual congress is our most important event of the year. This is when we can not only provide a thorough update of our activities but when we can listen to our valued Members regarding their needs and challenges and learn from them through the study of best practice. It is also an opportunity to deliver inspiring presentations from key figures working in Oncopolicy, Capacity Building and Research. Enabling us to explore how we can create synergies between partners in all sectors and industries in the shared goal of supporting those who are in the fight against cancer and related issues in our society. This year we present to you three main events over the three days: the pre-congress Workshops, the Congress and the Annual General Meeting. Each addressing and exploring numerous topics presented by those actively working in these fields. The workshops are a unique opportunity to explore specific areas of interest allowing the participants to shape the content and conclusions with those leading the conversations, while the Congress will present to you a broad and insightful vision of cancer related issues. It is key for us to foresee future developments and respond with innovative new approaches and strategic thinking in order to provide the best results for all. Finally, the Annual General Meeting will be the moment to get practical and make decisions that will shape future activities and work plans as we welcome new Board Members and staff. We also recognise the importance of enabling moments where members and ECPC staff can take the time to make new connections and share their stories and experiences with one another. This is where new friendships and partnerships can be forged, encouraging the spread of knowledge and practice to maximise impact. Finally, we would like to thank you for your presence and contributions, and we hope that you find the programme informative and inspiring. We believe that what we do makes a difference, and this is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the past year and to share new ideas in paving the way towards a better future!

ECPC Annual Congress Speakers

ANDRE DESCHAMPS

André studied first as a chemical engineer and in later years, MBA. He took several management positions in manufacturing companies (mainly automotive components) in Europe and the United states. As an experienced manager, he is driven by the quality of work and the right balance between economic and human factors. With his wife, Lut, co-owner of our own consultancy company, specialising in sustainable manufacturing and chain of custody programs, more than 1500 companies have made use of our experience. At the age of 51, he was diagnosed prostate cancer and had a radical prostatectomy. Since that time, he developed an interest in the way cancer patients are treated by medical staff, their quality of live and prostate cancer treatments. In 2011, he joined “Wij ook” Belgium and in August 2013 he was elected Chairman. In June 2014, he was elected as board member of Europa UOMO, the Voice of Men with Prostate Cancer in Europe. He served as a board member and treasurer and was elected Chairman in June 2018.

BERIT EBERHARDT

Berit is a volunteer of the non-profit patient advocacy organisation, Uronauten e.V. and board member of the International Kidney Cancer Coalition (IKCC). She has many years of experience as a kidney cancer patient advocate. Before engaging as an advocate, she studied economics and worked as project manager in a global IT section of the chemical industry. In 2009, her significant other was diagnosed with kidney cancer. She learned about the disease, its treatment and the needs of patients and caregivers in the same situation. The disease and his death had a tremendous impact. The rollercoaster of diagnosis, treatment, hope, fear and finally his death propelled Berit’s interest in kidney cancer. She started a patient support group in her hometown and later became Manager in an organisation for patients with rarer solid tumors. Since 2010, Berit has also been involved with the International Kidney Cancer Coalition. Berit belongs to the board of directors as patient organisation and medical liaison.
