A very special guest, Expert Gunter Lang from Austria will be joining the discussion, answering questions and demon- strating how the world’s energy poverty and dependence on fossil fuels could be drastically reduced, environment can be saved and the urgent need for climate protection goals could be reached. The Passive House Standard is defined as the economic optimum between cost and energy efficiency. Malcolm Isaacs will examine ways in which incremental or additional costs can be defined for ultra-low-energy Passive House buildings, and how these costs typically compare against a variety of hard and soft benefits. President of Green Giant Design+Build Adam Cronk will outline the benefits of increased building efficiency, shorter site ex- posure time, and quantifiable performance of envelopes as engineered systems. He will also discuss why much higher levels of employee training and retention are vital to these goals. Architect Anthony Leaning will demonstrate how his environmental values and social commitment have informed his prac- tice to design healthy work environments, community based services, and affordable housing. His work embodies a creative vision, which challenges us all to create better buildings and more sustainable communities. Anthony will present three award winning projects, Rideau Canal Skateway Shelters, Cornerstone Housing for Women and the Renovation and Addition to the Old Ottawa South Community Centre. Economist and Financer Rob Conboy will present financing strategies and available incentives for sustainable projects. Nadine Gudz will share insights on how Mission Zero drives business strategy, innovation, engagement, design and sales, along with lessons learned and what’s left to be done.
