Just to mention a few examples, there is the Hard Club, in the renovated Ferreira Borges Market, the galleries of Rua Miguel Bombarda and the bars at Galeria Paris and Rua Cândido dos Reis. The city’s movida was mentioned in the New York Times, which highlighted the new cultural, touristic and leisure opportunities available in the city. The article “36 Hours in Porto Portugal”, by the travel journalist Seth Sherwood, highlights new restaurants and thematic wine hotels, among many other places of interest.

› rIVEr / BEAChES

The view of the city from the River Douro is absolutely astonishing. The scenery is breath-taking and unique in the world. The city’s beaches are all worth visiting, from Castelo do Queijo, to the Ourigo beach. All along the coast, there are beaches for all tastes.

BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES

“The Business and Management Studies Doctoral Programme of the School of Economics and Management, University of Porto is a very stimulating and well organised study programme that has particular features that render it truly magnificent. The coursework component is very useful and interesting and affords contact with leading Portuguese and foreign researchers (…). The reading and discussion of my thesis project made it possible to develop the original idea and the contributions made by the panel, throughout the thesis process were essential in terms of the progress of my research work. The exchange of ideas and experiences and creativity are part of the Business and Management Studies Doctoral Programme and I felt that this was a great benefit to me throughout the course because of the opportunities created to share and discuss a wide range of topics in a proactive and success-oriented atmosphere.”

Marisa Roriz Ferreira

“Neverending learning is an essential human need and courses, such as the School of Economics and Management, University of Porto, Doctoral programme in Business and Management Studies, are excellent opportunities to satisfy it. When I applied to join the course in 2007, my main aims were to increase my knowledge in the area of management and to participate in international research. I am achieving both of these goals: additional knowledge that will be of great use to me in my career as a business administrator, and international experience via the encouragement given by the FEP to publish in the best international journals and to read papers at international seminars. I now view the PhD programme not only as an opportunity to “redevelop” myself both practically and theoretically, but above all as an opportunity to improve myself as a person. It teaches me not only to “redevelop” myself but also to “rethink” myself. I am very grateful for the rigour, high standards and quality of the members of the FEP academic staff which made all of this possible.”

Luís Marques

“The PhD in Business and Management Studies allowed me to rediscover the spirit of science in the business world, because there is nothing more practical than a good theory, but also because practice is based on many theories. Being at the forefront of knowledge allows me to question the unquestionable, think the unthinkable and see the invisibility of some of the small great things that happen every day in the dynamic world of business organizations.”

Miguel de Oliveira Tavares

Elena Sochirca

“I am sure that the FEP Doctoral Programme not only provides the indispensable basis for an excellent academic or business career, but is also a wonderful educational experience.”

STUDENT TESTIMONIAlS

“This programme provides its students with the means to develop their reasoning and capacity for logical thought, their critical spirit and capacity to work autonomously and solve the most complex theoretical or practical problems in economics.”

Pedro Gonzaga

“The very international nature of this Programme raises the level of the FEP PhD in Economics to the level of the Doctoral Programmes of major foreign universities and strengthens to good standing and reputation of the School of Economics and Management, University of Porto.”
