For decades, towline systems have played a significantrole in the successful automation of warehouse anddistribution facilities, factories, freight terminals, andnewpaper printing plants. Towline conveyor systemscan reduce operating costs, enhance productivity,improve inventory control, and increase work flowefficiency. Towline systems may also be linked withhost computers for even greater versatility and produc-tivity.

Webb Towveyor and Shallo-Tow conveyors providehigh-volume, unattended material transport via towcarts, which move above in-floor tracks. Cart loadsurfaces can be customized to hold roller beds, turn-tables, tilt tops, and racks.

Webb towline systems offer accumulation features,live storage, and automatic dispatching to accommo-date a wide range of production-oriented environments.Applications include sorting, transporting, order picking,automatic loading/unloading, storage and retrievalinterface, and assembly operations.

High-volume, unattended transport

Webb towline conveyor systems are engineered and manufacturedfor long wear life. The original Towveyor system, installed in 1947,was in operation for over 45 years.

Truck freight terminals rely on Towveyor system.

capacitites usually range from 400 to 2,000

pounds, but greater loads can be accommo-

circulate to provide live storage during peak

operating periods.

• Economical installation/operation.Towline systems can be installed either in new or

existing facilities and require minimal construc-

tion time. System maintenance does not require

highly trained technicians, your own plant per-

sonnel can easily handle normal maintenance

requirements.

Towline Conveyor Features

Push-Button Control - Lock-out typestart/stop push-buttons are wired intothe electrical circuit at appropriateintervals along the towline conveyorpath. The conveyor cannot be re-started except at the station at whichit was stopped.

Towveyor Drive - Constant speed orvariable speed rotary caterpillar typedrives feature high carbon heat-treatedsteel caterpillar dogs. The caterpillarchain is RC-60 roller chain with apatented anti-back flex design.

Roller Turns - Roller turns are usedfor horizontal changes of direction.Our chain design allows for a smoothtransition through turns without theneed for special escort chains. Featur-ing removable cover plates that alloweasy clean out, maintenance, andinspection. The wear surface of thetop bar of the roller turn is made withspecially treated high carbon steel.

The Towveyor track is ofwelded construction with two3" channels and high carbonsteel top bars. The track isespecially designed for manyyears of reliable service. Stan-dard pusher and idler trolleysoperate in 3-inch channels formost applications.

The pusher trolley frameand counterweight dog are ofmalleable iron with a speciallyhardened pushing surface forlong wear life.

Powered and non-powered spurs divert carts a short distanceinto the spur. Succeeding carts advance them by low-impactbumping. Pushing bumpers are installed on carts to protectboth the tow-pin and IMP probes when contact is made, andlockouts are included to prevent jams. Spring bumpers arerecommended to reduce shock and noise. Fully powered spursconvey carts to the last empty position where they are disen-gaged from the chain by an air-operated “stop” device.

Individual carts can be stopped while the power chain contin-ues to run. This allows carts downstream from the point ofstoppage to continue on their way.

The conveyor chain is Microloy® 658 rivetless chain. The high-carbon, heat treated chain components can be assembled byhand, without tools, and can accommodate practically anydesired spacing of load-carrying carts. The telescoping featureof Webb chain eliminates the need for take-up, reducing pitrequirements.

Shallo-TowConveyors

The Shallo-Tow track isformed of alloy steel and hasreplaceable wear-bars. It isadaptable to most industrialapplications except thosewhere grit and abrasivematerials are encountered.

Shallo-Tow conveyors are low-profile conveyors designedfor use in facilities where track depth and economy ofinstallation are of prime importance.

Shallo-Tow conveyors have a track depth of approxi-mately 3 inches and function without trolleys. The chainassembly slides along lubricated wear-bars within its low-profile track.

The standard Shallo-Tow track is self-anchoring, eliminat-ing the need for concrete anchors.

Shallo-Tow chain is made from heat treated, forged steel.The Shallo-Tow chain consists of four basic parts: center,side and pusher links, and chain pin. The chain requiresno special tools and can be assembled or disassembledby hand. Like the Towveyor chain, the telescopingfeature of the Shallo-Tow chain eliminates the need fortake-up, reducing pit requirements.
