From The Writer’s Desk…Welcome to the first issue of Eclipse! This is something I’ve always wanted to do properly for Doctor Who: Twilight. And here I am! Doing it! Hurrah! (That’s sounds slightly wrong…)

But moving on from general cheering and good will, what has been going on recently? Well… lots of things I can’t say, but a few things I can say: Finished the first half of the first film (now at 40 pages) and it’s all rather exciting what happens with new companion Laura and I swear it must go to more locations than I’ve ever done before (over 3 continents at least!). The second film is getting under way, written by the fabulous Cyberstudent and Melanie Jane Bush; and just wait till you see what the Doctor has to do. Oh, he is utterly brave, but utterly helpless. And then the plot of Film 3: blimey, I’m not even going to say anything about it just yet.

Of course, the burning questions with the films is actually when they will be posted. I actually don’t know myself. It depends on lots of little things.

However, Series 2 has started in earnest! There is work on at least 4 out of the 8 episodes at the moment and I hope to go even further and to more alien planets than before. There are some lovely plots developing. I can’t wait to tell you more!

And last but not least, Series 1 has ended. Definitely a rollercoaster and a half to start Doctor Who: Twilight off! It’s a shame Jockie couldn’t edit it all, but that’s just part of the fun of doing a script series, I suppose. I certainly enjoyed it and it was great to have some positive feedback. Please keep commenting! It helps us so much!

Truth be told…Here are the answers to the questions you sent in…

1. In the story 'Gamble', was this always planned to be Amy's last story? Or was there originally a story introducing her as a companion? (Melanie Jane Bush)

After Brad left, I was in a slight panic to get another writer in. I chose dashragard and effectively gave him a free run. I’m sure it was mentioned to me that Amy would be a long last companion, but we wouldn’t see that. So, only when I read the script did it log in my mind. However, I didn’t want to write an introduction story for Amy because it was something a little different and for the reader to imagine.

2. Which story/episode are you most proud of and why? (Rose Addict)

Definitely Descent of the Gokans & Diamonds Are Forever. It was so well received and I put so much effort into it and I’m just so glad it all paid off so much.

3. In your opinion, do you think the Doctor works better alone or with company? (Rose Addict)

I’m going to cop out and just say that it depends on the story. For instance, with Through The Looking Glass & A Future Lost a one off companion would have slowed everything down and made the story lag. The crux of it is whether you want the Doctor to vulnerable because he is alone, or because he is with someone he cares about. In the end, it all mixes together with who the monster is, the setting &c. to whether or not the Doctor ‘works’ better alone.

4. How many series do you plan for Doctor Who: Twilight? (Rose Addict)

I’d like to Series 3. It would be great fun. That would probably be the last series of Doctor Who: Twilight. Although I never say never. It all depends how the films and Series 2 go down before I can go further with it.

5. Can you reveal any plans of returning villains, allies or possibly actual Doctors? (Rose Addict)

We might see the Gokans and Hannah (although not together) again, but I like to try and keep it fresh and not spoiler it for you! Having said that, we do have some Dalek action next series, but in a very interesting way. And there is a returning villain in the finale of Series 2, but I’m not going to say any more for now.

6. What do you believe are the key ingredients to a successful Fan Fiction? (Rose Addict)

You need a sound idea and a lot of luck, as well as some good writing. But luck is the main thing, because it is a lot of hard work head writing a Fan Fiction, successful or otherwise.

Thanks to everyone for their questions…

A look at… The GokansWhen planning episodes 4 & 5, I wanted to do a good old proper alien invasion with UNIT, the Shadow Proclamation, the Doctor (and even at one stage, Torchwood!) and a new companion all involved. So, I knew what the aliens looked like, but I needed a name. So I turned to the good people of DWO, and there were some excellent suggestions, but the winner by popular vote was Gokan, from Inhabitant of the Vortex.

So, I had a name, I had a look, I just needed their characteristics. Warmongering, spiteful aliens did the trick. And with some telekinesis thrown in for good measure, they were sorted.

But what about a weakness? Well, as shown within the episodes, just some simple waves and their blood decomposes. Fun! The diamonds only really came in because of studying GCSE Chemistry at the time and tiny diamond crystals seemed a cool idea.

Well, the Gokans were lots of fun to write for, but will there ever return, I don’t know just yet…

DenouementIt’s going to be a quiet few months for Doctor Who: Twilight. I haven’t got anything planned for Christmas yet, but you never know. There might be a trailer or something. This is a quick little issue to get things started. If you want to see more, please, please comment! And any features (such as reviews, other interviews &c), please suggest them! Anyway, goodnight and good luck!
