FLOOR 200

Shrinkage reducing admixture

Product DescriptionEclipse® Floor 200 is a liquidadmixture for concrete thatdramatically reduces dryingshrinkage and the potential fordrying shrinkage-induced crack-ing and curling. Rather than

functioning as an expansive agent, EclipseFloor 200 acts by reducing the surface tensionof pore water. Eclipse Floor 200 is specificallyformulated for use in non air-entrained appli-cations only, such as interior slab-on-gradeconstruction. Eclipse Floor 200 is a clearliquid admixture that weighs approximately7.7 lbs/gal (0.92 kg/L).

UsesEclipse Floor 200 may be used in any concretebut provides the most value when used forinterior slab-on-grade construction where thepotential for cracking and curling due todrying shrinkage is prevalent and undesirable.Other potential Eclipse Floor 200 applicationsin non air-entrained concrete mixes notsubjected to freeze-thaw cycling include bridgedecks, parking garages, marine structures andcontainment structures. Eclipse Floor 200 canbe used in ready mix, precast, and prestressnon air-entrained concrete, in addition tomortar, grout and wet mix shotcrete.

PerformanceImpact on plastic and hardenedconcrete properties—Figure 1 illustrates ASTM C157 dryingshrinkage reduction up to 90 days (7 daywet cure) for concrete mixtures containing0.75 gal/yd3 (3.7 L/m3) and 1.5 gal/yd3

(7.4 L/m3) of Eclipse Floor 200. This datarepresents typical Eclipse Floor 200 testresults for a well proportioned concretemixture. However, it is recommended thatpre-job drying shrinkage testing be conductedto determine actual drying shrinkage reduc-tion for a specific mix proportion and set ofmaterials.

In properly designed low shrinkage concretemixtures for slab on grade construction, theinclusion of Eclipse Floor 200 may enablejoint spacings of up to 50 feet (15 meters) orbeyond. The use of Eclipse Floor 200 resultsin an overall higher value flooring systemincluding:

• Lower joint maintenance cost due tominimum joint openings at a given jointspacing or fewer joints at extended jointspacing.

• Flatter surfaces due to curling reduction

• Longer surface life

Product Advantages

• Reduces drying shrinkage up to

80% at 28 days and 50% at 1 year

and beyond

• Reduces the potential of cracking

due to drying shrinkage in fully and

partially restrained concrete

• Reduces curling

• Improves durability, which reduces

maintenance and repair costs

Eclipse Floor 200 impacts workability(slump) similarly to an equal volume ofwater; therefore Eclipse Floor 200 should beused as a replacement for an equal volume ofwater. Eclipse Floor 200 may have a slightretarding effect on a concrete mix, typicallyless than one hour. In mixtures containingmid- or high-range water reducers, it isrecommended Eclipse Floor 200 be used withnear neutral setting polycarboxylate-basedadmixtures (including the MIRA® and ADVA®

product lines). Eclipse Floor 200 may alsocause a slight (typically less than 10%)decrease in early and later age compressivestrengths. Eclipse Floor 200 is a non-chloridecontaining, non-corrosive admixture that willnot initiate or contribute to the corrosion ofreinforcing steel.

Addition RatesTypical Eclipse Floor 200 dosage rates are0.5 to 1.5 gal/yd3 (2.5 to 7.5 L/m3). However,dosage rates ranging from 0.2 to 2.0 gal/yd3

(1.0 to 10 L/m3) can be utilized to meetspecific drying shrinkage requirements.Dosage rates as low as 0.2 gal/yd3 (1.0 L/m3)have been successfully used in concretemixes that are just outside drying shrinkagespecifications. Although shrinkage reductionas a function of dosage rate is fairly linear, itis recommended that trial mixtures be evalu-ated for shrinkage reduction in accordancewith ASTM C157 prior to construction.

Compatibility with OtherAdmixtures and BatchSequencingEclipse Floor 200 is fully compatible withthe complete line of Grace Admixtures. Inmixtures containing mid- or high-range waterreducers, it is recommended that EclipseFloor 200 be used with polycarboxylate basedMIRAmid-range water reducers and ADVAhigh-range water reducers. In general, EclipseFloor 200 may be added to the concrete batchsequencing at any time, however preferablyafter the dry materials and most of the water.Different sequencing may be used if localtesting shows better performance. Please seeGrace Technical Bulletin TB-0110, AdmixtureDispenser Discharge Line Location and

Sequencing for Concrete Batching Operationsfor further recommendations. Eclipse Floor200 should not come in contact with anyother admixture before or during the batchingprocess, even if diluted in mix water. Pretest-ing of the concrete mix should be performedbefore use, and as conditions and materialschange in order to assure compatibility, and tooptimize dosage rates, addition times in thebatch sequencing and concrete performancePlease consult your Grace representative forspecific guidance.

Packaging & HandlingEclipse Floor 200 is currently available in bulkquantities by Grace metered systems, in 275 gal(1,040 L) totes, or in 55 gal (208 L) drums.

Dispensing EquipmentA complete line of automatic dispensingequipment is available through W.R. Grace &Co.–Conn.

FlammabilityEclipse Floor 200 has a flash point of 216°F(102°C). This is substantially above the upperlimit of 140°F (60°C) for classification as aflammable material and above the limit of200°F (93°C) for classification as a combustiblematerial by DOT requirements. Nonetheless, this product must be treated with care andprotected from excessive heat, open flame orsparks. For more information, consult theMSDS.
