What is better than a fashionable autumnal day? That’s right, here we are. As ANDZELICA’s collection

presents us, autumn is the ideal season to get your glamorous animal prints on. This mix of Leopard and Zebra skin makes it attractive for any lady that wishes to be the ‘’Diva’’ of her own. An outfit that can be worn in any kind of occasion, without feeling too ‘’out of your box’’. Since it’s autumn, hardcore cold is not around yet! In that case, skin showing is allowed. of course, lace would always make the cut, even if you may thought animal prints take the lead. Extravagant details, would be what we could expect of aNDZElICa and her africa inspired gloves together with the head-piece. It makes it feel like it travels us to places we have never been before accompanied with Iss’s and paryx’s excellent choice of poses. Seems like, autumn is back and here to stay!

Ready, Set, go!

my first thought : ‘’It can not be July, since autumn is abound.’’ I do miss summer days! This look is like it got

out of a runway show for real. yellow leaves color is a greatly safe choice to feel within our autumnal topic. Except you use blue hair. Even though, for me it looks very inspiring, together with how the face is fitting through the scarf. Secondly, black makes the safest choice to be a winner, fitting perfectly with those ankle boots. Definitely, a must-look. Way to go,

yareli! We can feel your aura!

It seems like yellow will be very ‘’in’’ this autumn. It is definitely an ideal outfit if you plan to meet a friend, and then to go

clubbing. Like, normally. One of the few outfits, you can wear for every occasion, while looking really comfortable with yourself. It does give the Vibe of autumn into very high decibels, even though, I could easily see someone wearing this on a Spring period also. I am very glad this interesting jacket is not a plain yellow one, but promotes a more stripped-down version of a fabric similar to an animal print. I would call it very 80’s. or else, I would of called it boring. Really. It is very crucial to be a detail-seeker, and matching mini parts of your outfit with something else. In our situation, the belt with the pants. To sum up, what I love the most about this look is that it promotes the 21’s century girl, especially, when I look on the upper part, but still reminds me the quote of ‘’loving the past and putting details of it in the future’’. love that! Time for an applausse!

let’s get glam! Is it a museum’s statue or a human? maybe a human with a very robotic pose. I could not agree more with

patterned fabrics as a must for Autumn 2013, especially when I see Vintage details, but not overloaded with it. perfect hair choice, by the way. Definitely, a look to inspire a poet, and the foundation of this year’s autumn. The chicest part comes when you see this complex outfit fitting perfectly with total different patterns, and those electric stockings, together with an extravagant detailed bow. as far as I know, this dress is a part of a dress collection by m1h0, that I personally adore. Nothing could lift this look up, but leather shoes and gloves to create a look that can tend to end up erotic, in an admirable way. Those are things, everyone has in their closet. Of course...Jewels are a girl’s

best friend! Small, but standing out! bravo!

This is a color combination we may had not expected this autumn. I have to admit though, it is a very good one. generally,

the shape of this dress is very interesting, and that may be the most attractive part of the outfit, especially matched with this slightly patterned scarf and belt. I call it ideal for a beauty queen and expensive-looking kind of style. Nowadays, it’s most of the girls in the fashion industry piece of cake. What comes to bold the best, is that the shoes give you this vibe of shining like they were made of a very valuable material. It’s a very small trick for Nitdblue, to approach a specific part of IMVU users who adopt this style with this collection. Additionaly, I must admit, this outfit could be also great for Winter time. Even though, I suggest it for lounge events and slightly for clubbing. generally, a greatly safe choice, while the frosty wind is blowing by you. you may get chilly, but that’s what you pay for

being glamorous!

The best thing about this outfit, is that it screams Autumn from the very first look. painted with the ‘’fallen’’ leaves color, it

creates the best alchemy to welcome the new season’s spirit. Vertigina’s bundle is the ideal casual outfit that anyone can wear, coming from every part of ImVu. Eventually, rain boots is a must for everyone’s closet. A very versatile collection that can comfort many styles, such as geek, urban or even a hipster! all in all, it’s a super outfit promoting the most beautiful versions of orange, together with Viennex’s autumn lips and outstanding hair, resembling me a bubbly personality, with a passion for

fashion!

autumn! The most wonderful time of the year! agree? I really love sweaters and I feel cozy and safe in them. This is

the kind of outfit I would put on to meet my friends or spend some time with my family. It gives you the feeling of ‘’typical open-hearted me’’. Especially, if it promotes a twist with comfortable pants, and cute brownie boots like this hell of a look! It just makes you want to go out and play in the mud, as if you were a child! you can relate, don’t you? of course, I would never forget to compliment the purple hair in order to create a not-so-typical girly look, but the unique look to fall in love with this Autumn. Just let the inspirational autumnal wind carry you away! What do you

This must be one of my favorite looks! from the moment that I glanced at it, pop music started to play in my mind. I

guess it’s from the slight color explosion this jumper gave me. Combining this look, with casual pants describing autumn, while looking like a totally comfortable clothing shape. on that moment, when you check the bag, it gives you a nostalgia feeling of the old-fashioned and a bit more ‘’naive’’ days, while realizing the person who portraits this look, might have a lot of humor. The peak comes with the combination of it with Marilyn Monroe tribute hair, and iconic but same time autumnal glasses. I shall desperately bow for this look!

The cool autumn months have once again arrived! For me this outfit contains all kind of things I would expect to see in

this autumn! A great one for the finale of this article, to be honest! I am actually waiting to see a lot of mustard colored tops, combined with black pants exactly like these ones! What actually makes it stand out the most for me is the red details to this outfit. Starting from the boots, that it feels like they are a bit more stripped-down and urban version of what we tend to see as rain boots. I find it sarcastic too. The red bag, that transferred my look immediately to the model’s hair, reminds me of a french look-a-like model, by the way. and of course! The grey shirt under this mustard blouse is giving this twist of the ‘’vintage autumn’’ I would of expected, seeing the rest details of the look. goodbye Summer, welcome autumn! bring us all the happiness we may have missed this summer! looking forward to dance and surf upon the autumnal

ground! let’s slay, ImVu!

First thing that you need to figure out is your identity, who you are and what you want others to see in you. Depending on that

you can build your look further. For example, if you want to be a natural and innocent looking vintage model, you obviously won’t choose a bright makeup and green hair color. You can also influence from celebrity looks and people from your everyday life, or, if you wish, you can replicate your actual look on IMVU. Most importantly – find what you want to be.

Explore the newest trends. Same as for clothing, shoes and accessories there are trends of how your avatar’s face looks acceptable, what hair color to prefer and what kind of makeup to wear, and, believe it or not, there are even trends of which avatars it is cool to wear, so before creating the new look, you should do a

research on what is in style currently. What is in style currently, you may ask? Here are some things I personally have noticed :

• Crazy color hair. Every person has a different hair color, starting from classic blonde or brown, ending with green, blue or purple. Also, ombre color hair is very much in style right now. Check the catalog of Nevoir for some inspiration.• Natural skintone or bold makeup. Either go with bold eyes and bright lips or for a completely natural look. The middle road isn’t so much in anymore.• Natural eyes. It has always been a trend and probably always will remain one. Good luck finding realistic, yet not creepy looking eyes!

An important thing in IMVU modeling industry is your avatar’s image. Over years it has been proven that models with a bold, significant look get more success than the “mainstream” looking models. Each of us probably has their own perspec-

tive of how to create a unique and interesting image for yourself, but I will share what I know and hopefully the advice will be helpful at least a little.

• Sinderella or VisNova avatars. Modeling industry has never been a cheap thing, but now it’s getting more expensive than ever. To call yourself a model, you definitely must own Sinderella avatars or posepacks, as well as at least something from VisNova, as the pose modifying is becoming somewhat of a trend among professional models.

build your look. Now that you have done your research, you can begin building the look. Remember that experimenting and spending

more time on it is definitely worth it, as your image sometimes may be even more important than your outfitting skills.

In the IMVU modeling industry lately more frequently developers and agency owners choose models depending on their image and maybe not the skills as much, as it can always be directed by the requestor or someone else. So it’s important to be confident about how your avatar looks and make sure you do have your “cherry” to stand out in the crowd. Good luck!

• Stop labeling yourself. When you think of you as an extravagant or a typical casual model, there’s no way for you to develop further. It’s important to believe you do NoT follow a style, but you are every style. This is the first step to make everyone else believe you have the versatility ‘’seed’’. Like this, people will always wonder, with what kind of look you will come up with this time at the party! Be the unexpected one. Always be a surprise.• Quit thinking in “fixed” terms. Around the same line as labels, stop thinking stereotypical. Punk and Goth outfits are not scary, glamour can be a dark place but is not evil, and urban looks do have their uses. Once you realize that it’s your understanding of a thing that determines what it is to you, you’ll see more possibilities and, therefore, more options for showing different parts of your personality through your clothes. Each outfit you do, must be a different statement. It’s okay if people won’t see it, but it’s important for you to feel special. Like this, people will call you a significant member on the industry.

• Stomp out negative thoughts. Just stop. The beauty of your brain is that it is you and you therefore control it. If you find yourself thinking, “Oh my God, I can’t be good enough” you probably won’t be able to. When the voice starts going, put a sock in it. It’s not doing you any good. keep your head up. Literally. Changing your body language can actually change how you feel and therefore think. • Assume a different identity. With this method, you completely immerse yourself in someone else. It’s not you, but it’s this new creature you’re trying to be. This is 24/7. You must adopt the habits of this new character in every situation. In this way, probably you will stay remarkable to someone’s brain, especially if your new creation will be a bit metaphysical. Try something between fantasy and reality. people around the industry are always thirsty for aRT.

We all know how bad it feels when you buy a new outfit for a party or a special occasion, only for someone else to turn up wearing exactly the same thing. All of a sudden, your dress or top doesn’t feel quite as special anymore and you wish you had purchased something else instead. Unfortunately,

if you buy your clothes from well-known IMVU creators, there is always a chance this could happen, especially if it’s a garment that is new in and therefore likely to be quite popular. But there is one way to get around this problem, and this is to ensure you put your own stamp on your outfits and make them look different to everyone else’s. It is fine if you use popular products, but it’s significant to have a unique look. Fashion should be all about individuality, rather than desperately following all the latest trends because that’s what most of people say you

need to do. Read on for a few tips on how you can really overcome this issue.

How do I give

personality to my

clothes?

22

Page 23: ECHO #3, September 2013

If your brain has understood how to give personality to your looks, it’s time to take care of your avatar’s wardrobe. It’s no news that your clothes can say a lot about you. What you wear can inform easily of your type of employment, as well as your ambitions, emotions and spending habits. And now it’s even launched a whole new type of psychology. Our clothes and spending behaviors often come from internal motivations such as emotions, childhood experiences and our own culture. When I had my modeling agency, I was daily in contact with a lot of people around the industry. One thing I definitely understood was that everyone’s outfit was rooted

to something deeper, their own personality. So let me get deeper to it, clothing-wise.

• accessories. It is the easiest way to give your outfit a bit of individuality and if you find yourself in the unfortunate position, where someone has the same dress as you, the way you accessorize it can make all the difference. Try to update your look by using different style accessories, but not too ‘’out’’ of the box. This gives a really chic look to your outfit, whichever mixture you will decide to follow. • another idea is to experiment with making your own jewels, if you enjoy designing. This is a really great way to create a truly unique outfit and it doesn’t have to be as difficult as it sounds. You could even do the same on your wrist to create a very special charm bracelet that can identify you.• Customization. Admittedly this isn’t quite as easy as experimenting with your jewels, but if you get it right, customizing your clothes can be a really worthwhile

process that creates an entirely new outfit. I will set an example for you. One of the easiest things to do is create a unique day time outfit by using as a base some of your T-shirts. Try choosing the ones with cut sleeves to make a vest or cutting around the neckline to give a raw edge and create an off-the-shoulder top. This way you get a casual look with vintage and edgy details!• Overall, the best way to ensure your outfits are unique is to experiment with different combinations instead of following other people’s ideas to the letter. If you see a picture in a magazine of a celebrity wearing a top similar to the one you have, don’t copy the entire outfit, but look at the way they’ve styled it and consider how you could make the look work for you. Yes, we all get fashion inspiration from other people, but it shouldn’t be about copying others, it’s about getting ideas and making them your own.

To sum up this article, no matter what people tell you, fashion is not something that exists in dresses only or does not in popular products. fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we survive, what is happening in our lives. Try to show all that through your clothing, and I assure you that you will be a

winner. See you!

Runway modeling and fashion shows is a huge part of IMVU Modeling Industry nowadays. Every modeling agency hosts shows with random themes or make shows for developers.

It’s essential for the model to have an avatar from TheModelFactory and know how to do runway modeling. I am here to help you to

improve as a runway model.know your avatars. TheModelFactory has made a lot of avatars,

but not all are good for everything. Some of them glitch, and for some of them the show’s maker will freak out, so it’s very important to have a variety of avatars for various occasions, as well as know very well which one to use when. I have created a huge chart of overview for the avatars,

but here you can see a shorter review of them. (In the next page we offer an exclusive, already made review of TheModelFactory avatars)Walking speeds. Some people may think that the walking speed is not

important, but you can’t imagine how the show can change just by using different walk speeds. Here is the list of speeds and how I suggest using them :

• walk--- is good for long gowns and if you have to drag a lot of attention to you, not suggested for normal runways.• walk-- is good for gowns, could be used for a gown show.• walk- good for anything really, makes show longer than normally.• walk* is the best to use for everyday and most of shows, used if organizator doesn’t mention what speed to use.• walk+ is good for normal everyday catwalk as well.• walk++ is good for testing runways.• walk+++ should be used only for testing runways or going through nodes very fast.

Page 27: ECHO #3, September 2013

runwaymodeling

27

using triggers. If you still don’t know how to hide the trigger, you should memorize this super quickly! (To hide the trigger type *imvu:trigger walk+) It’s not so much necessary if you are in a rehearsal, but it’s an absolute must to hide the trigger during the show! Also, a great suggestion is to have all the triggers written down in notepad, including your posing and everything, so during the show you don’t have to stress and have spelling errors. If you are doing a switchwalk, it’s very important to have the walk trigger ready to paste anytime. It makes the switchwalk so much more calm and less stressful.

master the systems. There are various systems used in shows, for every show the organizator tries to find something not used before, something unique and impressive, however the basic systems always remain the same. If you have perfected all of these systems, you should not have problems with any catwalk system given by the organizator.

Old time runway system. The first catwalk system ever appeared on IMVU modeling community. It’s basically a simple shape catwalk with 2 nodes, one in the beginning of the catwalk, other at the end. The model has to walk down the runway till front and back, then teleport to the front of the catwalk and do a pose, then disappear back to backstage. This system is rarely used nowadays, as it doesn’t quite give the “realistic” feeling.

baby catwalk. This system has been here for a few years now, most simple and probably the best looking runway system, which is why it’s given a title Baby catwalk. The catwalk has two nodes in backstage, the next model walks out when the previous one is halfway of going back. It always looks good if the timing is good, also it gives a realistic feeling of how models actually walk on real catwalks.

Switchwalks. It is also a few years old, but much newer than the Baby catwalk, used to create complicated catwalk systems, as it can be shaped for any runway, even if it’s a circle, square, a snake or anything at all really! These runway systems require the most practice on timing, as with just one little timing mistake, the whole show gets messed up. Some of you might ask what a switchwalk is. The main idea of it is that you let your avatar walk at one direction and then when your avatar is about to turn around and walk back, you switch node and paste trigger again, therefore making the walk longer, which also allows you to change the direction of the walk. If you wish to be perfect in your runway system, always make sure you know the exact location of the nodes, so you suddenly don’t get lost during the show. Best thing to do is just stick to system “First switch node then press enter for trigger”, so basically when you’re about to switch node, make sure you have trigger in chat window prepared. Switch node, wait half second and press enter for trigger.

Syncwalks. It’s the most recent and most complicated catwalk system. It is a switchwalk in which 2 people synchronize it, either walking both from same direction, or facing each other. This requires a lot of practice and professionalism in the models.

Practice makes you perfect. It’s a golden saying that I believe is very true. Just practice the system for the show you are in, listen to the organizator of the show and what they say during the rehearsal and you should be fine. Good luck!

TIP : As IMVU has camera issues, before the switchwalk, go to the middle spot of catwalk, take off birds eye, put birds eye back on. Don’t move camera anymore. you’re able to navigate through

whole catwalk normally now.

themodelfactory avatar review by vertigina

This review covers all currently released TheModelFactory avatars. It includes description of how the walking is

and what kind of outfits it is good for (in Vertigina’s opinion), also all avatar glitches are adressed, so be careful and don’t buy the ones that glitch. The avatars marked in red aren’t suggest to use, in the comment you can see why. Mostly it’s because of them looking weird in shows and/or glitching. The ones marked in green are the avatars that can be used for everything really, as for all the ones who are not colored in any color, they can be used if you like them and want to use them, there are no problems with them, however they aren’t the type of avatars you can choose all the time for everything. I strongly suggest having more than 1 avatar in inventory, to have a variety and a chance to choose which avatar looks the best with the outfit you are

modeling.

INTERVIEW BY ISS

Welcome to Confessionals, the place where we invite a person from IMVU community’s elite and have a friendly and open conversation with them about everything. This

time we have VisNova, the revolutionaizer of IMVU Posing, creator of the innovative Pandora, original creator of 50+ pose avatars and pose billboards.

The interviews are done by Iss, an IMVU fashionista, developer and a model.

VisNova

Page 33: ECHO #3, September 2013

Iss: Welcome to Confessionals! First of all I would like to thank you for accepting to be interviewed! :)VisNova: No problem, it’s my pleasure. :)Iss: It’s our honor to have you here! :)VisNova: Lol, don’t make me blush, lol.Iss: So, let’s start with who is behind VisNova. What is your real name?VisNova: Shayne. Shayne-Paul actually, but I never use the Paul.Iss: Oh, that’s a cool and unique name! :) What do you do in your free time?VisNova: I do a lot... I work out every day, except sometimes I take Friday off, I do weights 3 times a week and crossfit 3 times a week. When I get a chance, I will skydive, I also like to wake board, but it’s hard now because of the time, but the gym is my main activity now, It’s one of my many passions.Iss: Wow, that’s a lot of things.VisNova: And I also take a shitload of pictures, so I guess you can say I am a novice photographer, too, but that’s mainly for IMVU pose references and etc.Iss: Ooh! Now I see why we didn’t have the time to do the interview before. So where are you from actually, and where do you live now?VisNova: I am from New Zealand and proud of it, lol. I now live in America.Iss: That’s nice.VisNova: I like America. I originally never wanted to come, but I am glad I did.Iss: Haha, I have never been there. It must be cool! Let’s move on, though. What do you hate the most?VisNova: Hmm… Let me think… That’s a hard question. I think maybe pickles, lol.Iss: Lol!VisNova: Yeah, those green ones in the jar, lol.Iss: And what do you hate the most about yourself?VisNova: There isn’t anything I hate. I believe if you hate anything about yourself, then you can’t really excel in life… There may be things you don’t like about yourself, but you have to learn to like them, because it can give you a complex and that negative feeling can show to others. The best way to think about it is : There is someone out there that is much worse or has a lot more to worry about.Iss: That’s a good point of view.VisNova: I know. :)Iss: What do you admire the most about yourself? Let’s cover all the sides!VisNova: 1. When I decide I want something, I won’t stop until I get it. 2. I like how my passion for something

always brings innovation. I believe I have abnormal focus when required. Hmm, what else, lol. I think that’s it. Oh, and I do think I am a good dad! :)Iss: I don’t know about the first two, but I am sure for the third! What are you afraid of?VisNova: Failure.Iss: Ooo! Do you consider yourself as a sociable person?VisNova: Very. But I also like to spend time alone. Before I moved to America, I had a house in Australia that was far from the city, it was just me and my German shepherds, and I would spend sometimes 6 months to a year there just working and only visit city once every 10 days to food shop. I never socialized because of the focus for my passions. Socializing wasn’t even a thought when I was there. That was in 2007, when I first started IMVU.Iss: I see. :) If you don’t have anything else to add about your real life, let’s move on to IMVU stuff.VisNova: Ok.Iss: As you said, you have been on IMVU since 2007, right?VisNova: Yes.Iss: Wow, that’s a pretty long time.VisNova: Yeah, I suppose it is, but time becomes a time warp when you develop.Iss: And how is your IMVU everyday? What do you do daily when you log in?VisNova: I create and test.Iss: You don’t socialize a lot in here?VisNova: Not as much as I should.Iss: Is there a thing you hate about IMVU, like a change they have done or so?VisNova: Not really, because I adapt to any changes they have made.Iss: What do you think about today’s IMVU Store? Do you think that some developers don’t get the attention they deserve and some do without deserving it?VisNova: I think it’s hard for everyone to get noticed, but it’s a competitive business, and with that comes problems for many. The only way to get noticed is to create something or products that stand out from others. A lot of people don’t understand the concept of quality anymore and going that extra inch to make your products that extra special. Because it is so competitive, the only way to shine is to get beyond everyone else in your field. I mean, how does one get attention they don’t deserve?Iss: Well, last year we have seen the developers to gift their products in order to get a place in the hottest products and take some of the “shine”. What do you

33Article by Iss

Page 34: ECHO #3, September 2013

think about that?VisNova: If you are a well-rounded developer that has “skillz” and creates top quality products and do your marketing and promoting in the right way, the hottest products page doesn’t matter.Iss: Mhm.VisNova: You will always have people that game the system. The secret to beat them, is at their own game by finding an alternative to make more profit.Iss: I see. Let’s move on and talk about your work now. :) How long have you been a developer for?VisNova: Since early 2007.Iss: And how did you decide to be an avatar developer, or you didn’t begin with that?VisNova: I started with making single poses, then I made pose packs, then in late 2007… Wait, let me check… No, in early 2008 in April I released my first avatar Primadonna.Iss: So you began from female ones. Do you remember your first product?VisNova: My first product was a sticker, lol.Iss: Haha! What inspires you for the new avatars?VisNova: Many things. I don’t get inspired in one timeframe. For example, my latest avatar Hunee… I actually started making in 2012, then during the last year, when I had an idea for a pose or a default pose, I would make it. I think it’s difficult to get totally inspired for one thing, I think you have to be… What’s the word, lol… Well, let’s just call it “Multi Inspired”.Iss: Tell us more about your newest avatar Hunee! :)VisNova: I hadn’t have created a 50 pose avatar since 2010, so I knew it was overdue. When I started her in 2012, I experimented with the new default style, but it was very difficult, so I stopped it for a while. I then picked it up again in 2013 and learnt some new techniques that helped me push the hurdle I had with her. She then became a real project that took all my time, lol. I believe I can still improve her and I think that will show in each version I release. The first version is the FederationX Socialize, the next version is the regular, which I am working on at the moment. She has a lot of poses on her that are ideas I accumulated over the last year. I think it’s important to bring something new and innovative to every major release you make. This is what can really help you as a developer.Iss: I think the regular or tall one would be a must need for me. :pVisNova: Everyone has their preference, so it is important I accommodate as many people as possible.Iss: How much time do you spend on making your

avatars? Or it depends on the project?VisNova: A long, long, long, long time, lol. And now it is even longer, because I know the IMVU community has very high expectations of me, which drives me to create the highest quality I can, without it taking me 10 years on each project, lol. There is no time frame. I release an avatar when I am happy with its quality. If that takes 3 months or 1 year it’s all relative to the finished product’s quality.Iss: I think quality is what describes you! Do you use picture references for your poses?VisNova: For some poses yes, but most I get an idea and go from there. I also pose myself, lol, then I take pics then make the pose.Iss: Hehe, that must be very cool.VisNova: It’s fun. It’s also what keeps me at the gym, lol, because when you take pics of yourself posing, you have to do it naked to see the body correctly, lol.Iss: Ooo! Do you use models for modeling the poses of your avatars?VisNova: I have used a lot of models over the past and actually this regular version of Hunee I am working on at the moment has models from my group PoseCentral… So, yes. I use models.Iss: Oh, that’s cool. Do you have any interesting projects coming up? I know it’s early after Hunee, but maybe you do have a project.VisNova: Believe it or not, I have been working on and off on something since 2011… I believe it’s a game changer and I am hoping to have it finished and ready for action in December this year. I believe it will be my biggest release since Pandora.Iss: Wow! We are excited about that. And thanks for sharing it with us! And now that you said Pandora, the name that everyone on IMVU knows, let’s talk about it.VisNova: Pandora is due for some major changes, and that will also be happening in the next few months. Pandora has been going strong since 2010, but it’s time for some major changes to the software.Iss: Wow! More things to be excited for! How did you get the idea to create the revolutionary Pandora?VisNova: I originally came up with the idea for controlling the avatar using a widget, then IMVU released their right click widget, so I put my idea on ice. Then I kept thinking about how I could go one better and make it so it could actually make poses and save them, the problem I had is that I had all these ideas, but I didn’t have the coding experience to build it, so I needed to find someone that could build my ideas. Luckily I found tomcruise who has been a huge part

C o N f E S S I o N a l S

34

of Pandora’s development. We both have the same passion for Pandora, and plan on taking it to the next level. :) Actually, I first created the Adobe Air app called PoseCentral, which has a 3d scroller with pose pics for my avatars, from that I had the ideas to create a app or software that could control the avatar. Then the ideas came from there. Then I found tomcruise and we built it.Iss: Yes I have seen PoseCentral. And one more time, I can’t wait to see what else you can bring us! Where are you going to take t?! It’s already a thing over the IMVU limits! Can it go further?VisNova: Oh, lol. There are a lot of things that can be improved and added to Pandora, lol. We are only in the baby stages of development. Iss: Wow!VisNova: It can go a lot further! As far as you can take it, lol Iss: Haha! We can, we can! Do you like seeing what kind of poses Pandora users have created?VisNova: Yes, I love it. I love to see people use their creativity. I’ve even seen some with real talent that could go along way on IMVU.Iss: I guess that’s makes you proud of your creation! :)VisNova: Very! :)Iss: Tell us about other avatar developers. Do you like their work? Do you have anyone that you respect as a developer?VisNova: Respect as a developer… Hmm. I don’t really know any developers that well to say I respect them. I mean, I respect every developer’s drive to develop, because I know how it consumes your life and the sacrifices you make to develop. So I respect that about all developers.Iss: Aww. :) If you don’t have anything else you want to add or share with us on this topic, let’s move on.VisNova: Nope, I think you have me covered mostly.Iss: I am glad! You also have a group here on IMVU. Tell us about it!VisNova: Well, it is the go to place for anything Pandora related for a start. It’s also a place I like to help other developers to show their products and I also randomly choose 5 developers weekly, sometimes fortnightly to feature in the soapbox. I also use it as a way to keep track of thieves. I also use it for anything in general people want help with. I must admit, though, it’s very difficult to maintain a group and develop, when you are only one person. Lately I have had Ivy helping me with a few things, so it takes the pressure off a little, but there’s never enough time in one day. It has been

running since 2009 and with over 10’000 members it’s going strong. I plan on keeping it running for as long as I am a part of IMVU.Iss: Congrats! You also answered my next question, haha.VisNova: Lol. I thought I would beat you to it, hahaIss: How often do you make competitions for the members of the group?VisNova: I used to have competitions running all the time in the main group, but haven’t for a while because of the time. I have another group which is setup primarily for PoseCentral competitions, but I had to put that on hold because of time. I am looking at getting a couple of admins to help me run the groups, so I can kickstart the competitions again, because I enjoyed them a lot. It is all about time and staff really.Iss: That is a nice idea! They will save you some time.VisNova: There is no way to be a fulltime developer and run a group by yourself successfully, you need help. I mean, I can do it, but it’s not the way I want it. Iss: Mhm. Let’s continue to some private questions that you answer if you wish or else we can skip. How is the perfect woman for you?VisNova: Well, I’ve had many relationships and many different types of girlfriends, was even married at one time to a girl from Israel. It’s a very hard question to answer. I think the most important thing to me is that she has confidence in herself and is positive about everything she does in life.Iss: I think that confidence makes you better even if you are not. It’s the way that you show off everything about you.VisNova: True.Iss: So let’s move one. What does love mean to you?VisNova: Thinking of that person before yourself. In other words, you think about doing something for that person before yourself. You are not selfish towards that person in any way.Iss: That’s a very good answer, I must say. Have you ever cheated on someone or have you been cheated on by someone?VisNova: I have to admit that when I was young and stupid I did and that’s only because I knew I could. I would never do something to hurt anyone now, as I have seen the results from it. But I haven’t been cheated on luckily.Iss: When we are young, we do stupid things. :pVisNova: Lol, because we can.Iss: What does your son mean for you?VisNova: Everything.

Iss: Do you have more kids or just him?VisNova: Just him. And I look after him fulltime.Iss: As I said before, a great dad! VisNova: Yup, I think I am, lol.Iss: What is your motto of life?VisNova: There ain’t no business like show business, lol. Joking! I would have to say “Take on any challenge / Strike for perfection / Think before you act / Live life the way you want, not how someone else wants / Turn negative to positive with the power of thought / I will succeed if I believe”… I have many more.Iss: Wow, you are very life experienced!VisNova: Yeah, many life mottos. I don’t think you can follow just one, you need many.Iss: I agree. Do you have to share an interesting story that has happened to you recently?VisNova: Lol. I have many, but even one could take a while. Let’s just say I have had a huge road to get my greencard in the U.S. and a lot of hiccups along the way, and I had never seen a skunk before and the other night I ran over a dead one by accident and the car stinks so bad it’s almost unbearable, lol. I never knew skunks smell so bad until I actually have the stink on the car, lol. This area is a skunk city. It’s San Dimas/La Verne California.Iss: Yeah, they are called skunks for a reason, lol. If you got to know that today is your last day to live, what would you do?VisNova: Spend every minute with my son.Iss: Aww! What type of music do you listen to?VisNova: A lot. If you know my group, you know I love music. I make mixes for the members… Actually, I need to make another one! I listen to all types and I know that’s cliché, but it’s true. However, I do have 3 DJ’s I listen to when I train : DJ Metro, DJ Spin and DJ Flipside. They are from Chicago’s B96 FM that play on the weekends.Iss: Another of your activities! Oh wow, do you ever have time to relax?VisNova: Yeah, it is a big part of my activities, when I get time. But this last year it’s hard for time, because of looking after my son. Every minute is precious, lol... Plus every minute I have to work, has to be 100% productive. :)Iss: I see, lol.VisNova: There is no leftovers of time like leftovers of the night’s dinner, lol.Iss: Lol. Who is your favorite clothing developer on IMVU? You can tell 1 for males and 1 for females.VisNova: That’s a hard one, because I don’t really

know a lot of who’s new and who’s who, but I do like MissMaya, Sukititia.Iss: Yes, they are both very talented, I have worked for both of them. :)VisNova: Also thovarex, Predator, Prey, DorisCora, SAL, sikk, Urteil, baraq, MisPixelicious. There is a lot, actually.Iss: Yes, all of them are great artists! What kind of movies do you prefer? Which one is your favorite?VisNova: Hmm. I actually watch a movie whenever I get a chance, normally to wind down for the day or with the family. I would have to say that “I am legend” is at the top of the list, the scene where he has to kill his German Shepard brought tears to my eyes. I absolutely love the movie “Avatar”, just because of the amazing graphics, scenes and the fact they created new mocap technology just for that movie, plus, regardless of what people say, I think the story was awesome. I watched that movie so many times trying to find a mistake or a flaw but nothing was there. Iss: Yes, I liked “Avatar”, too! Such graphics!!VisNova: There is one more that I like, it has Liv Tyler in it – Stealing Beauty. I am also a huge UFC fan, lol. I go to some live events.Iss: Ooh, that’s pretty cool.VisNova: I went to the RONDA ROUSLEY first UFC fight in Anaheim, that was awesome.Iss: You know how to cover every question fully and that’s surprising me. :p So, before we finish this long interview, is there anything you want to tell to people that will read this issue and the interview to know?VisNova: Apart from what I have already told you, lol. No, I think it’s covered. Just know that I am going to be on IMVU for as long as it’s here. And I will not stop bringing innovation at it’s finest to the community!Iss: -claps- At this point I have to thank you as Iss for this very interesting interview. I enjoyed every point of it!VisNova: Awesome! :)Iss: Also, I want to thank you for giving us some of your time to share some things about who is behind VisNova.VisNova: No problem at all!Iss: All I have to say : A true legend. And you are not randomly in the place you are in this harsh industry. A big bravo for all your work! We can’t wait to see more from you!VisNova: Thanks! :)

Iss has been a model since May, 2010 and has gathered a lot of experience as a stylist, developer and also an amazing runway and photoshoot model. She has been among the top models in La Prestige and Vertigo modeling agencies, as well modeled for baraq in a show and developers

like ANDZELICA, Kae, MissMaya, DLussional, Velur, starglous, Nitdblue and Sukitita for their catalogs.

Her style cannot be labeled, she doesn’t have a “signature style”. Iss is different every day and doesn’t stop surprising us with the variety of colors and styles she has, which explains why developers like to choose her for their designs, as she knows exactly what she does.

The creativity also reflects in her catalog, where she has beautiful and glamorous clothing. She also does homepage layouts, icons and much more of artwork, where her versatility also shows very well.

It’s great to have a model that can be anything you need and make it work in the modeling industry. Keep up the good work, Iss!

Many of you probably noticed by now that crazy colored hairs are becoming very popular to the IMVU community. I myself, love to wear them

because they are not only unique but they come in various shades and colors, making yourself stick out from the crowd. It’s not always easy to find the perfect color pop for you. Skins, heads, and avis are big contenders when it comes to consideration on what hair to use. Unlike the over used black or blonde hair, color popped hair makes you stand out. As a model, I like to express myself through my hair. Those who know me, know that I always rock the purples and the blues. It makes me feel better knowing that I’m not just another blonde or brunette. Colored hair gives you a certain edge, and I love it.

Some fabulous colored hair devs include Nevoir, 0BEY, Eves, and Koala. Colored hairs not only make a statement, but they can also bring an outfit to life with the right skin choice matched along with it. Not all people can rock crazy colored hairs, but if you are one of those lucky few who can, I would highly suggest that you try it out. Be the black sheep in the ocean of blondes. In the IMVU fashion community, uniqueness is cherished. With that being said, stand out, and try to color pop!

Typical school-girl look I would say. A look to satisfy your teachers, for sure. The safest option. Actually,

it reminded me a girl from a TV show. anyway. The skirt is something, we probably have seen before, together with this shirt color. Even though, I love that the shirt is detailed and it gives a taste of floral pattern underneath it. making the cut. Eh, nerds & nerds everywhere! I really love the expression too, it’s so funny. as you understood, I am a detail seeker. for that and only reason, what I love the most is that through the bag we can see the ruler coming out of there. It’s like, you got geometry today. how cool is that, guys? matching with the shoes color, in a darker version, yeah, in order not to look very plain. The socks are cute too. It’s important to have comfy outfits at school, as this one. It’s like… you are

there the most of your day! Duh!

Nerdy looks never get old! This one made me laugh though, due to the double glasses staring

at me. Pretty funny, eh? It’s very interesting that the model is matching her bag color, with her watch! I love this kind of details, they always catch my eyes the most! Take notes, ImVu! I cannot ignore though the perfect mix the top’s color does with the ‘’just another day to at school’’ pants, while not boring me, but inspiring me. It gives the feeling that in front of us there’s a typical student, while trying to stand out, as well. I hope your teacher will appreciate it though. I see you trying and trying. An alternative version, but smart! a very modeling look. applause!

School can be fun, indeed. Especially, if you get your mickey brands on and listen to your

teacher mumble and mumble. boring, true. but it’s the so called important stuff! Blah. I bet this is not the classroom’s best student, though. Too chic to be devoted to studying only. We all know jeans is the most comfortable choice for a place like that. Since we are a fashion magazine though, I do understand the twist of this typical school look the leggings give it. Comfy boots... and black since it’s autumn, right. And what could benefit this school look the most than nerd glasses? I call it a top ingredient, in order to succeed certainly with creating this kind of look. I tend to adopt this modern nerdy look often, now that I notice. I recommend

it to everyone else too, though!

Model : Iss

Page 50: ECHO #3, September 2013

aaaah! This color explosion just smashed my brain! What a look! The skirt must be the

most outstanding part of this outfit, definitely. It looks pretty modern, but I would say the shape and the length of it, could fit on a glamorous-looking vintage look, with a different texturing of course. The top part, looks pretty common as school-wear but definitely matching the rest, by style. Where does the modeling part come, though? The shoes! I am very glad I did not see any sneakers to be honest. It would be disappointing. This kind of look gave us a glamorous pinch, and those shoes just topped it. maybe not the most common thing, but being unique at school is alright too. I’m sure many teachers won’t be satisfied about it, but it’s all about being you. School does bring rules, but sometimes it’s

awesome if you break them. Isn’t it?

pink! It’s my sister’s favorite color. This must be one of the school’s most popular girl. I don’t know,

it just gave me this vibe. The dress is really pretty, while not a plain one, but adorned with a very grandma-looking pattern, in a good way. The shoes seem comfy, maybe as today she has also a Sports lesson. I get it. I haven’t tried before to be honest, the great combination between pink & this kind of cream. It’s really interesting, and it does give a glamorous twist to this casual look. Especially, the way it matches with the model’s color of hair. I really love the model’s face though. It reminds me of Angelina Jolie a bit. In a blonde version. The kind of student, that goes to school, but her dreams are completely different and more artistic. You know, out-of-school activities, like fashion. If I am right, then I wish you

the best!

Model : Paryx

I bet those are like her signature hair. other than that, it’s a very casual look. Probably, it reflects to ‘’what to

wear’’ in the start of the school year, and maybe around spring time again. Those short jeans match very well with this top, since they both are around the same color. Calm colors. generally though, what I believe it’s the most important thing to finish a school look, is using comfortable shoes, as we see here too. also, I love how the brown color is matching with the rest of this outfit, because this color combination, as it’s very famous, is a safe option especially for Spring season, and general looks, not only for school. The best part here, is the bag though. Every student wants a special bag to be the new best friend through the year(s), and I think yareli got this one! all in all, school is like a prison for some, you can never escape. It’s important though to identify with everything that will be counted as valuable later in your life.

Take this as my advice! See ya!

I was waiting for this alternative version to be honest! Dark styles have never been turning us off,

right? I guess it’s one of those students who prefer sitting on the last desk. We already did see this skirt. as I told you, it’s something pretty common. Even though, here is a ‘’mini’’ version that may surprise your teachers. Not in a good way, to be honest. But still, you will look fabulous for yourself. It’s the most important. The top fits very very well with the skirt, that could also look like if it was one piece. This way it does stand out. Very well. The bag used, looks very matchy with the rest, as it’s black itself, but same time contains red details. The shoes do give this look a more edgy view, due to the interesting shape they are cut. For me, what comes to take us away the most with this look, is the model herself. The hair she used together with the face expression, reflect a powerful and dogmatic school personality. I hope it’s not a bully though, and we are just

modeling here!

We all have noticed that there are a lot of agencies nowadays on IMVU, however I can say that the most of them are very new and can’t really be considered professional, because the owners think that as soon as they open an agency, they will be the best right away. Of course it’s not that easy. You need

to have some skills to run an agency, such as, at least a basic (preferably advanced) knowledge about fashion, as well as somewhat of editing skills and, of course, a lot of time and will to work on the agency, as it’s much harder than it may seem at first.

When I was searching for a good agency to show today, I saw thousands of unprofessional agencies. Most of them weren’t active, the owners were very new users of IMVU and didn’t seem to know what they are doing. I just didn’t see that they have put any effort into the agency. I think that if someone doesn’t really care and is not able to run an agency, they should just close it and stop bothering.

Anyway, enough with the negativity! It’s time to see which agency we chose today for the magazine. The agency we chose today is VO. As always, the best person that knows what to tell about the agency is the owner herself – Yareli.

What is your name?I’m Yareli.

how long have you been on ImVu?I’ve on IMVU for four years now.

Tell us about your ImVu’s everyday!Well, whenever I log in, I firstly check VO and then other groups I’m involved in. But usually it’s pretty busy, with a lot of grading and a lot of submitting; photoshoots, edits etc. But it’s a lot of fun, since it’s my passion, I don’t mind doing it!

Which public rooms we can meet you?Well, I don’t usually go to chat rooms that often; unless I’m invited to them. But from time to time I’m in VO’s public chat room.

for how long have you been in modeling on ImVu?Oh God! Well, I started modeling way back in 2010. A friend introduced me to it, and ever since I fell in love with it!

are you doing modeling in real life as well? No. I’m currently still in school and in real life my interest is cosmetology, I want to do makeup.

What does modeling mean for you?Modeling means a lot to me! I’ve been doing it for a little over 3 years now, and honestly if it wasn’t for modeling, I would probably not be in IMVU.

a g E N C y S p o T l I g h T

EVERYDAY IS A FASHION SHOW AND THE WORLD IS YOUR RUNWAY.

56

Page 57: ECHO #3, September 2013

Why did you decide to open an agency?Well the main reason why I wanted to open an agency was because I wanted to see more fashion shows! As a model, my passion has always been being on the runway and strutting for the guests! I have always and enjoyed it, but I didn’t see it much in the fashion industry; therefore, why not open an agency that its main purpose is fashions shows. And that’s how VO came to live :)

Why did you choose the name Vo for the agency?I wanted something short and professional, and I think VO does the job well.

Does your agency have something else different than the fashion shows?

Well we also have a lot of photo shoots and assignments, and recently we started VO Magazine.

Is there an interesting story of what has happened within the agency that you would like to share?

I think all stories I have from VO fall from fashion shows. It’s been a lot of fun preparing for the shows, and it’s amazing to see how the guests are so intrigued in what they are seeing.

I love the banner. Did you spend a lot of time doing it?I had the banner made. It was done by MrrFux@IMVU.

Do you have any plans for the agency? My main focus right now for VO is the magazine. All the staff and memebers are very excited about it, so we must make it happen! It will be lots of fun!

Are you still hiring people? How can someone apply? We are no longer hiring models, as we have a lot. Perhaps in the future however, we might re-open modeling applications. We are accepting developers, they can apply in our VO Admission group.

What you could say about your agency?I’m honored to have VO, it’s been a great journey so far! I want to thank my partner Morgan and Merk for helping me out with VO. I also appreciate all my models and developers for making our agency active and fun!

cleoWe have many content creators on ImVu community, almost every other person is a developer nowadays. however, since the success of the creator mostly depends on how wealthy they are and how many people they have in friends list to gift stuff out to. Obviously, not all of the developers can afford it, so it’s much harder to achieve

success. ECho would like to help the developers that work hard to receive the well-deserved recognition.

Previously we’ve introduced developers that are more vintage or glamorous, now it’s time for someone more urban and edgy. The star of this issue is Cleo. Some of you may already be familiar with some of the accessories or shoes she makes. Her style could be classified as

urban, but it varies a lot. She definitely has a „color pop” in her catalog, which can go great with all the colorful hairstyles that are in style this season.

Speaking of hairstyles, you can also find many colorful hairstyles in her catalog to go along with her large variety of different outfits.

It is very easy to match a whole outfit from head to toes using products from just her catalog. A few outfits are matched by ECHO model Parakiss. Make sure to check Cleo’s catalog!

Every time I am searching for an artist to feature, I get pissed. I see a lot of people that don’t know anything about editing and artwork, yet they call themselves artists. I spent a lot of time on searching for an artist that cares about editing and knows how to use the appropriate software. I am really pissed with it because

it is so unbelievable, how can someone offer to do a job that they don’t know anything about it? It’s really stupid, in my opinion. However, it is not just a problem for me, it’s also for a lot of other people, because if they wish to find a good artist to request something from, they have to dig through all of that. I think many people can relate to that.

Anyway, it is not the place where to rant, it’s time to meet our star of this issue – Ingenious Blindly. You can see more of her work on MissBlindly@deviantART, TheNinoMiss@Youtube. As always, we have interviewed the artist!

Page 65: ECHO #3, September 2013

What is your name? My name is Marty.

how long have you been on ImVu? Since 2006, which means seven years.

Tell us about your ImVu’s everyday! I actually do a lot of things on IMVU, it’s a fun place. Usually I chat away with my friends, role-play, take screenies and create art, of course. And also, recently I started creating products for IMVU. It’s quite an exciting activity as well.

Which public rooms can we meet you in? I don’t visit a lot of public rooms, however usually I am in my own rooms, which change every few weeks. So, can’t tell you an exact room.

For how long have you been an artist on IMVU? It’s hard to tell. I was interested in IMVU art and tried to do something myself for as long as I remember myself on this site. But actual art creation for others probably began two or three years ago.

are you doing something art related in real life as well?

I wanted to, I planned on studying art. However, I moved into other direction and art (traditional and digital) has become only a hobby of mine.

What editing software are you using for your edits? I use Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop CS6, with the help of my wonderful Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet.

What inspires you to make the artwork? Three things always inspire me to make something. One of them is the creativity people add into their screenies, even orders - with their interesting themes and little details. Second one, which is the

ultimate inspiration for me, is other better artists. Probably nothing inspires and pushes me forward more than an amazing piece done by someone else, at which I could look all day. Finally, even though it’s more of a motivation than inspiration, the wish to become a better artist and create the best art that I can possibly create is a really big kick for me. You could say, it’s like a competition with myself.

Which kind of edits are you the best at? I am not even sure. Others would judge that better, but if I had to say, I’d choose something that I love doing most - drawing dripping blood. I’ve always found great pleasure in making it a bit unrealistic and dragging it out quite a lot. Also, I love doing eyes. So, I would like to hope these things are what I am best at.

What kind of edits are you able to do? Anything really. I love to challenge myself with things I may not succeed in creating but I know I at least tried.

how much do you charge for your edits?I charge depending on how difficult it was to make the artwork. But I usually start at 5000 credits + per DP, with a few variants in different effects, colors, lighting (included in the price). If it’s full-sized avatar art, then the price starts at 10 000 + credits with different variants as well.

Do you have a place customers can order your artwork at?

Not currently. I’ve closed my last shop due to lack of time. However, I started accepting private orders through forum/IMVU/GASR private messages.
