“Liberated by Love: A message for our time”

In this talk Adam Storey will unpack the apparition of Our Lady of

Guadalupe, sharing the history and miracles associated with the

apparition, as well as what Our Lady’s message means for us now.

The historical significance of Our Lady of Guadalupe is profound,

but Adam will argue that much more important is the message Mary

has for us today! This session will be in the Social Hall, Monday,

December 11 at 7pm. If you have questions, please contact the

Faith Formation office at 232-3514.

Date Night - January 6 - Marriage as Gift

As we observe Epiphany, we will have a guest speaker

share with us about "Marriage as Gift." As the wise men

came from afar to bring gifts to the baby Jesus, what are

the gifts that we give to our spouse through our journey of

marriage. Please save the date.

STEPHEN MINISTRY “Therefore, beloved, as you wait in expectation of this, strive

that God may find you rooted in peace, without blemish or

fault.” 6 P 7:8 -14

Advent Season is a time set aside for us to prepare for the

“this”, the birth of Christ. We are waiting in hope and expec-

tation of his coming to be our Savior with his birth celebrated

on Christmas Day. How are we preparing for that day in real

terms? It may be difficult to stop and experience this period

of waiting and hope. Are we able to see those around us who

may be experiencing despair and fear rather than hope and

peace? God is patient with all of us to listen and learn of his

love and care for us. Can we not take time to listen and learn

of the help and the care that we might bring to others during

this Advent Season. Our Stephen Ministers are available for

one-to-one, confidential caregiving relationships.

For referral, please contact: Anne Schmitt (515-291-8257) or

Deacon Mark Bortle (515-291-4989).

This weekend, December 9 & 10, we will collect for the Retirement Fund for Religious. There

is an insert and an envelope with this weekend’s bulletin for your contribution. Thank you for your generosity.

Christmas Family Liturgy

Plan to participate in this year’s Christmas Family Liturgy on

Sunday, December 24 at 4pm. There are many roles to be

filled in the play, liturgy, and music. Once again, we hope to

have many families (adults, teens, children) involved. Sign-up

is available on-line at www.stceciliaparish.org where a web

link is provided in the 'Latest News' section. The deadline for

main roles will be Tuesday, December 12. Any questions,

contact Bob Hauser at [email protected].

New to the area? If you are interested in helping your child grow in their Catholic faith please give us a call! We’d love to help your child get plugged in to an Elementary, Middle School, or High School program.

In His Image, A NET Retreat on Christian Identity for Mid-dle Schoolers, December 14, 4:30-9:30pm In His Image is a dynamic retreat offered by NET (National Evangelization Team) Ministries which sends teams all over the US to proclaim the Gospel to young people and their com-munities. Dinner and snacks will be included. Sign up at: https://stceciliaparish.formstack.com/forms/net_retreat_17

Why are Youth Ministry Trips so important? “This was my second trip to NCYC and once again it was a perfect mixture of learning about my faith, meeting other Catholics my age, and having fun. As a senior this year, I tried to really focus on deepening and learning about my faith this weekend by listening to the great speakers of our faith. NCYC also gave me the opportunity to attend Reconciliation, daily Mass, and go to Adoration multiple times. I’d recently been struggling with finding time for my faith between school and all of the distractions that come with that so NCYC was the perfect get away to refocus me and get me back on track.” Josiah Engelken (12th Grader) Anchor Mission Team: Upperclassmen are invited to join us Sunday nights from 7:30-9pm in Sts. Isidore & Maria (St. Thomas Aquinas.) This team is studying the virtues and occasionally plans events, such as the Journey Confirmation Retreat. Meeting Dates: December 10, 17

Loved your Confirmation Retreat and/or being part of a Retreat Team? Anchor's Confirmation Retreat Team begins meeting in January. Find out more at [email protected]. We are looking for Wheat Team and Small Group leaders able to attend Sunday/Monday meetings.

Due Dates for Bulletins

Dec. 23/24/25/31 bulletin: announcements due by noon Tuesday, 12/12

Thank you to everyone who picked up a Giving Tree gift tag. Please return your wrapped gift with the tag attached and the contents marked to the Narthex by noon this

Sunday (Dec. 10) so the organizations can have them in time for their holiday parties.

Stewardship (Second Sunday of Advent): Today’s second reading is about Christ’s coming again, “The day of the Lord,” Peter calls it, but that day isn’t December 25th. It’s that other day, that second-coming day about which Peter is concerned. He waits with great hope and anticipation for God to remake the earth into a place of perfect justice and peace. And he sets some demanding goals for the Christian community as it awaits that final day of accounting and reconciliation: strive to be at peace, without spot or blemish. Christian stewards work for peace. As we await the coming of Christmas, what can we do to promote peace in our homes, workplaces, community and world?

Marriage Corner: “John (the Baptist) appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” (Mk 1:4) The sacraments are essential to the Christian life. Encourage your spouse to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation regularly. Participation in this sacrament will strengthen not only your relationship with God, but your relationship with your spouse.
