As he outlined the many qualitiesof this person who was to be honored, he said it wasa surprise to this person and to us at the lunch-eon. After he listed the many reasons this personwas to be honored, he announced and presented aplaque to Barb Russell as the West Penn Golf Asso-ciation Volunteer of the Year Award. Barb was be-yond surprised, but her many friends, as she re-ceived a standing ovation, were not surprised by thechoice. Congratulations Barb and thanks for all youdo.

FROM THE GOLF PROSpring is here and the golf season is officially underway.

The 3rd Annual Men's August Invitational will be conducted from August 13th-15th. The application and event info will beemailed to the membership in late May. The event promises to be three fun filled days of golf, entertainment, and camaraderie.More info to follow soon….

In years past, we have run Twilight Golf nights on Friday evenings a few times per year. The turnout has been ok, but we wantto make it better. The Golf Committee has worked hard this winter to come up with ways to bring life into these Twilight Golfevents. Whether you actively play or are simply the spouse of a member that does play, we want you to come out and enjoy arelaxed evening on the golf course. The first of these monthly events will be Friday, May 15th beginning at 5:00 PM. This nightwill be played as a 9 hole step aside scramble with drinks available throughout the course. Sign up as a twosome and we willpair you with two others or sign up as a foursome for these fun nights. These are no longer couples events. Groups can consistof 4 men, 4 women, or 2 couples. Configure your group any way you want. The sign up sheet is posted on the bulletin board inthe hallway outside of the golf shop.

Like last year, ECC will have a Tuesday Evening Ladies Nine Hole Golf League. This league is designed for those Ladies newto the game or women looking to play nine and relax for the evening. This is a very stress free league open to our lady golf andsocial members. From now through June 30th, it is open to all Ladies members that do not yet have golf privileges. We wantyou to come out, see the course, enjoy the facility, and build new friendships. There are no tournaments and no contests. Simplycome on out and play for just a cart fee. Ladies will be paired in two-somes. You can find a playing partner yourself or simplycall the shop and we will pair you accordingly. The first one of these weekly events is May 5th. There will be a brief clinicstarting at 4:45 PM every week and golf will begin at 5:00 PM. Please contact the Golf Shop with any questions or to sign up.

The driving range is open and the hours of operation for the month of May will be 7:30 AM – 7:00 PM. The range will open at7:00 AM on weekends. Golf Lessons are now available. If you have never seen your swing on video before, set up an appoint-ment. Seeing is believing and it will help your game.

All of our club fitting carts have arrived. Demo clubs are available to use everyday from Titleist, Cobra, Ping, Taylor Made, andCallaway. The Golf Shop Staff is here to help you. If you have any questions regarding any of the new equipment, please ask.

Our official Demo Weekend is set for Friday, May 1st and Saturday May 2nd. From 4:00-7:00 on Friday come out and see thelatest from Cobra, Ping, and Titleist. Then on Saturday from 11:00-3:00, Taylor Made and Callaway will be here to showcasewhat they have to offer this season. Each company will have a Trackman launch monitor for computerized club fittings. Thoseappointments must be scheduled in advance by contacting the golf shop directly. Our PGA Professional staff will also be on therange both days to provide guidance and help you when you are trying the new products.

As always, I will match any store’s advertised price on golf clubs plus allow you to trade in your old clubs to further offset thecost. Prices from Dicks and Golf Galaxy don’t scare us. We will match their price plus provide an in depth free custom fittingwith an actual PGA Professional and a smile to go with it!!!

Statistics show the quickest way to improve your golf game is to improve your short game. For most golfers, over 60% of theirshots per round come from within 100 yards of the hole. The Edgewood Golf Professional Staff will be conducting clinics to getyou to putt like Nicklaus, pitch like Spieth, chip like Phil, and hit bunker shots like Rory. We will show you the proper form forgetting up and down on a more consistent basis.

Here is a listing of all dates, times, and topics to be covered:

Date Time TopicsWednesday April 29th 5:30-7:00 pm Putting / ChippingWednesday, May 6th 5:30-7:00 pm Pitching / Bunker Play

Practice tools such as chalk lines, putter fittings, and swing arcs will be utilized. Demo clubs and putters will be available to tryduring each session. The cost of each individual clinic is $30 per person. Come to all of them, or come as your schedule permits.Let our Professional Staff help you lower your score.
