    Activities of each ECCE Standing Committees (SCs) should obviously conform to the ECCE principles and functions. Numerous activities have been listed for each ECCE Standing Committee just to describe the scope or the field of activity of the standing committee. In other words, it is not implied that the standing committee should be kept responsible to realise all of these activities atthe same time. On the contrary, it is assumed that ECCE standing committees may work on project basis; may define one or two specific topics, may form a task force for each topic and concentrate on these until their successful completion.

    Activities of this standing committee include (but not limited to) the following:

    • To establish the principles of educational equivalence and classification for civil engineering (in collaboration with the “Professional Recognition & Mobility” standing committee);

    • To follow developments in the civil engineering curricula and educational systems in the world;

    • To inform the ECCE members and the European civil engineering community about the above mentioned developments;

    • To reflect educational needs and requirements of the profession resulting from the developments in civil engineering practice to the educational institutions and to the policy making bodies;

    • To participate in the activities of the European associations and projects such as EUCETT, EUR-ACE etc. concerning civil engineering education.

The new programme will replace the existing four sectoral programmes on school education (Comenius), higher education (Erasmus), vocational training (Leonardo da Vinci) and adult education (Grundtvig) when they expire at the end of 2006.The budget of which will be €6.97 billion for the period 2007-2013.The €7 billion will be used to support projects and activities that, at all ages, "foster interchange, co-operation and mobility between education and training systems within the EU so that they become a world quality reference".Individual targets of the four sub-programmes are: to involve at least three million pupils in joint educational activities; to achieve three million individual participants in student mobility under the present and past programmes by 2012; to increase placements in enterprises to 80,000 per year and; to support the mobility of 7,000 individuals involved in adult education per year.The Decision is expected to be finalised in November and enter into force in December 2006.The grant of 571585 EURO represents 0.0081% from the budget of €7 billion of the Lifelong Learning Programme.

    The Thematic Network EUCEET plans to set up an Association, as a legal entity underBelgium Law. The concrete steps to be undertaken are:

    During the time elapsed since its foundation, the Thematic Network EUCEET gained a recognized prestige and authority in the European civil engineering community. The establishment of an Association bearing the brand name EUCEET will certainly valorise the experience acquired by EUCEET and ensure the presence, beyond the three year of EUCEET III project, of a very important actor, with a competent saying in matters concerning civil engineering education and profession in Europe.

    1. Task Force of the Management Committee will prepare a draft of the Statutes and Bylaws and circulate them among the members of the Management Committee etc.

    2. In its first meeting, in December 2006, the Management Committee will approve the Statutes and Bylaws, which will be eventually send to the members of the Network, invited to make comments, to propose amendments and to express by letters signed by competent authorities the willingness to join the Association. 5. Like the partners of the Thematic Network, members of the EUCEETAssociation will be higher education institutions, companies, associations of any sort. Strong links, partnership and synergy will be developed with the European Association of Civil Engineering Faculties (AECEF).

    6. During the three year of programme funding for the EUCEET III project, the EUCEET Association will make intense efforts, in order to increase the membership from both the academic and professional worlds.

    7. The financial resources of the EUCEET Association will be its members' subscriptions, donations, grants and subsidies if any, funding from national and international organisations, revenues from its own authorised activity if any, the yield of its bank accounts and any other legal means that will comply with the purpose and objective of the Association.
