Installing agents with UNIX native tools

Installing agents with a Native Installer is a one step process. The agent gets installed on the

target host using the Native Installer and upon start-up is automatically discovered and added to

the ControlCenter Repository.

The interactive and silent modes of installation on the four platforms AIX, HP-UX, Linux, and

Solaris are discussed in the following sub-topics:

• AIX Native Install Interactive Mode

• AIX Native Install Silent Mode

• HP-UX Native Install Interactive Mode

• HP-UX Native Install Silent Mode

• Linux Native Install Interactive Mode

• Linux Native Install Silent Mode

• Solaris Native Install Interactive Mode

• Solaris Native Install Silent Mode

Prerequisites

You must have EMC ControlCenter 6.1 UB8 installed before you attempt to install the agents

using the native install methods.

The native install agent included with Patch CC_4856.zip will be at ControlCenter 6.1 version

6.1.0.8.516.

Download the ControlCenter 6.1 Native Installers from the EMC Powerlink website (registration

required) at: http://Powerlink.EMC.com.

AIX native install interactive mode

To install agents on AIX in the interactive mode:

1. While logged in as root, enter the following command, specifying the mount point as an

argument:

install_native.sh <mount_point>

For example:

./install_native.sh /usr/cc61native

The program displays the following message:

Log File is located at <ECC root

directory>/install_native.log

Uninstalling agents with UNIX native tools

Uninstalling agents with a Native Installer is a two step process. The agent must first be

uninstalled through the ControlCenter Console in order to remove it from the ControlCenter

Repository. Then, it can be uninstalled from the target host using the appropriate Native Tool

(installp, swremove, rpm, or pkgrm).

Common steps for uninstalling

Perform the following common steps:

1. Uninstall agents through the ControlCenter Console.

2. Make sure all agents are stopped on the agent host by going to the Master Agent

directory and using the eccmad stop all agents command:

cd /usr/ecc/exec

./eccmad stopall

Note: Always uninstall the Master agent last.

The above steps are common for uninstalling Agents in any platform. The remaining steps vary

depending upon the platform.

AIX native uninstall

Complete these steps after the performing the common steps for uninstalling discussed at the

beginning of this chapter:

1. Run the following command to uninstall the Database Agent for Oracle:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.ORACLE

2. Run the following command to uninstall the Host Agent:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.HOST

3. Run the following command to uninstall the Storage Agent for Symmetrix:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.SYMMETRIX

4. Run the following command to uninstall the Symmetrix SDM Agent:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.SDM

5. Run the following command to uninstall the Master Agent:

installp -u ECCAGENTS.MASTER

Installing agents with Windows native tools

To install any or all of the above agents from a command prompt on a Windows host, download

the ControlCenter 6.1 Native Installer from the EMC Powerlink website (registration required) at:

http://Powerlink.EMC.com

To install agents on Windows:

1. Create a folder to download to, for example: C:\ecc\WinNativeInstall

2. Download the Windows Native Tools folder to the folder created in Step 1 (for example,

WinNativeInstall).

3. Open a Command Prompt and go to the folder created in Step 1 (for example,

WinNativeInstall):

cd <WinNativeInstall folder>

Note: In the Steps 4 through 7 lines in [brackets] are optional, all other lines are required.

4. Run Native_agents-Win32_v6.1.0.8.516.exe as follows to install the Master and all Sub
