eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 4
Capability
• eCADFEM provides CAE licenses on demand, and based on a permanent internet
connection. The usage is charged against a prepaid contingent.
Access
• eCADFEM requires one of the following dial-in methods to communicate with the
eCADFEM Server:
• Permanent Public Firewall-IP (provided by the customer)
• Or a User Authentication (12 digit authentication, generated by the eCADFEM-Team)
• The 12-digit user authentication will be generated by the eCADFEM-Team in the event you
may not be able to provide a permanent, public firewall IP for your dial-in.

Section 1 – Technical Information – Usage Recommendations (1)
eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 6
Regular Monitoring: Examine the usage by monitoring the inrements regularly. • Logging in on the password protected customer area on our eCADFEM Portal www.ecadfem.com
provides you the usage history as well as the very licenses that are currently checked out (Aktuelle Nutzung BETA, also to be monitored with the Viewer-Login). Please keep in mind that the sessions listed in the menue „Aktuelle Nutzung“ will be traceable after the licenses will have been used for several times. This is due to an automated rule compilation.
• Sessions: The day‘s session history is automatically cumulated at midnight and is listed in the customer area the next morning.
• Aktuelle Nutzung: The current usage is displayed with an offset of 5 minutes.
Unattended APDL-Jobs: „ANSYS Batch" Jobs recommeded • Please find this option in the Mechanical APDL Product Launcher at "Simulation Environment".
The allocation is limited to the duration of the calcuation procedure. This helps to avoid unattended license usage (e.g. by interactive ANSYS Mechanical sessions).
Permanent Connection: The permanent connection to the eCADFEM License Server is mandatory throughout the entire license usage. • Also, please make sure that your router settings for TCP-Aging are set to greater than 7200
seconds. Minor standard settings of e.g. 300 seconds may lead to overlapping responses.
Using the License Allocation of the ANSYS Prep/Post & Solver Licenses (effective since Sept. 01, 2016)

Section 1 – Technical Information – User Authentication
eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 7
User Authentication
• This 12-digit user authentication is necessary, in the event no permanent, public IP-address
can be assigned by your Internet-Service-Provider.
• The authentication will be generated by the eCADFEM-Team and is included in the email
confirming your eCADFEM activation.
• To use eCADFEM with this authentication, your IT has to create a new (!) user-account with
according permissions (local or domain account) by naming it this very 12-digit
authentication.
• Using eCADFEM will only be able by signing in on the computer(s) with this 12-digit
authentication, but not with the regular user login. The authentication can be used for one or
even for multiple computers.

Section 1 – Technical Information – IP Dial-In (1)
eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 8
IP Dial-In
• The IP that will be registered for your account has to be permanent and public. Dynamic IP
addresses as well as private IP addresses cannot be routed and can therefore not be used for
eCADFEM.
• If you use Load-Balancing, all of the permanent, public IP addresses have to be registered.
• You have to operate an ANSYS License Server locally.
• Previous ANSYS Releases: The use of the most recent License Manager is recommended
even when using previous ANSYS releases.
Important: If you operate local ANSYS licenses too, the license key has to be examined prior to the
update to insure compatibility. License keys that are not in current maintenance, may not be able to be
utilized with the updated license manager.
If you have any considerations, you are welcome to contact our eCADFEM-Team at [email protected]
or our CADFEM Support-Teams

Section 2 – Installation - Proxy-Server (TCP only)
eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 17
ANSYS licensing does not support proxy-server for the time being
• Therefore, the ANSYS application via proxy server can only be done by a transparent port
forwarding.
• The incoming ANSYS client requests from the proxy server are directly forwarded to the
hostname of the eCADFEM-Portal (portal.ecadfem.com). The forwarding is done through
the TCP-Protocol (1056/2325).
• HTTP-Proxy forwarding is not possible.
• The response returns to higher ports, which are already opened for standard
communication. (Backroute has to be possible)

Unattended license usage may occur if
• Mechanical maintained active after the usage
• Batch Solve
• Or if processes have not been finished correctly
Monitoring of active licenses
• The Task Manager shows active ANSYS / CFX processes

Section 3 – Prioritize eCADFEM towards local licenses
eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 30
The sole usage of eCADFEM licenses can be executed with specific Start Scripts
• Using those Start Scripts opresses the licenses from the local license server
• If a local ANSYSLI_SERVER is operated (IP Dial-In), the local hostname of the ANSYSLI_SERVERS has to be prioritzied i.e. to be listed first. E.g.: set ANSYSLI_SERVERS=2325@lokaleransysliserver;[email protected]
Start script for Windows
• ANSYS 17.1 APDL: @echo off set [email protected] set [email protected] set ANS_FLEXLM_DISABLE_DEFLICPATH=1 "%AWP_ROOT171%\CommonFiles\TCL\bin\%ANSYS_SYSDIR%\wish.exe" "%AWP_ROOT171%\CommonFiles\Launcher\launchermain.itcl“
• ANSYS Workbench 17.1: @echo off
set ANS_FLEXLM_DISABLE_DEFLICPATH=1
"%AWP_ROOT171%\Framework\bin\win64\runwb2.exe"

Section 3 – Diagnosis
eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 31
Verify the file entries in %ANSYSLIC_DIR%\ansyslmd.ini
Verify the outgoing ports
• in cmd-Shell:
telnet portal.ecadfem.com 1056
telnet portal.ecadfem.com 2325
• Output:
If you receive an error, the port may be blocked
This test does not verify any further restrictions within the Firewall communication.
Further blockings can be verified by deactivating the Firewall temporarily (if possible)
Processes in the Windows Task Manager
• ansysli_server.exe
• ansysli_monitor.exe

Section 3 – Potential sources of error/malfunction (1)
eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 32
Please verify wether all prerequisites are fulfilled
Most local obstacles are:
• IP Dial-In
The registered IP address is not transmitted or your dial-in is executed with a different IP
Please have your IT check the permanent, public IP of your Firewall
Verify the setting of the Environment Variable FNP_IP_ENV=1
Verify the entry of the local Ansysli Servers in the ansyslmd.ini
• Blocking of the local ANSYS license components by a local Security Software (
[Windows] Firewall / Enpoint Protection, etc.)
Solution: allow communication for blocked programs
• Blocking of mandatory Ports by local Security Software (Windows Firewall !)
Solution: activate blocked Ports
• portal.ecadfem.com nor properly resolved in DNS
Solution: apply correct DNS settings respectively by static host-file entry
• License Preferences are set incorrectly
Solution: move one of the activated eCADFEM products to the topmost in the License Preferences,
and restart the application

Section 3 – Potential sources of error/malfunction (2)
eCADFEM - Installation Setup (29-09-2016) 33
Setting the Timeout of the ANSYSLI
• In the event, eCADFEM does start only after a Reread of the local ANSYSLI-Server,
please check the %ANSYSLIC_DIR%\ansysli_server.log for the following entry:
Unable to connect to FLEXlm path [email protected]; adding to "Unavailable
FLEXlm Servers" cache.
• This message describes, that the Licensing Interconnect temporarily has not achieved a
connection to the eCADFEM Server during the standard interval. And has therefore
deleted it from the license path. Restarting the ANSYSLI-Server will make eCADFEM
availlable again
• To avoid this error, please increase the Timeout with the following, additioal argument in
the file "ansyslmd.ini„:
ANSYSLI_TIMEOUT_FLEXLM=15
The timeout will then be changed from 5 seconds to 15 seconds.
