Description of the device

15.1 Object and type series

Position sensor of the AMG / Pesch Group company of type 215, equipped with two Pepperl+Fuchs slot indicators or approximation indicators, certified in accordance with Directive 94/9/EC and safely isolated from each other due to the mounting in the enclosure.

15.2 Description of the devices

The V 215 position sensor is comprised of a V 215 enclosure with built-in indicators. It serves as a position indicator for the stop positions or intermediate positions of pneumatic swivel drives. The device converts defined mechanical positions of the drive to electrical signals.

A coupling pin is provided on the centre enclosure base for connecting to the swivel drives, and the control segment is attached to this by screws. The firm connection of the signalling device to the swivel drive is implemented by a metal console attached by screws. A blue, certified EEX-e cable gland is mounted on the enclosure. Alternatively, two slot indicators or two approximation indicators are mounted inside the enclosure. The slot or approximation indicators are certified for protection class EEx ia IIG IIC T6.

- 15.3 Characteristics

15.3.1 Thermal data

The temperature class of the overall device depends upon the temperature class of the incorporated indicators. The temperature class of the position sensor is determined firstly by the limitation of the ambient temperature approved for the enclosure: -20 °C to 80°C and secondly by the ambient temperature approved for the indicators and their relevant temperature class. The respective most unfavourable case determines the ambient temperature approved and the temperature class. The coldest approved ambient temperature is - 20°C.

The position sensor may be operated with inherently safe electric circuits certified for categories and explosion groups [EEx ia] IIC, IIB [EEx ib] IIC or IIB. The category and explosion group of the feedback sensor depend upon the inherently safe feed current circuits.

(17) Special restrictions

For the connection of the indicators observe the indicator conditions described.

The relationship between the type of circuit connected, the highest permissible ambient temperature, and the temperature class, together with the effective internal reactances for the sensor type incorporated, can be found in the respective type examination certificate for the sensors incorporated.

The operating instructions contain notices for the approved temperature class and ambient temperature for the combination of indicators and enclosure which must be observed.

1) Object and type

The device tested is a position sensor of the AMG / Pesch Group company of type 215, equipped with two slot or approximation indicators, certified in accordance with Directive 94/9/EC and safely isolated from each other due to the mounting in the enclosure. In the supplement a maximum of 4 approximation indicators is approved.

2) Description

Please refer to the basic description in Test Report no.: 195 / Ex 0047.00 / 03. The V 215 position sensor is comprised of a V 215 enclosure with built-in indicators. It serves as a position indicator for the stop positions or intermediate positions of pneumatic swivel drives. The device converts defined mechanical positions of the drive to electrical signals. According to the sensor type, the open and closed positions or the open and closed positions and arbitrary intermediate positions are displayed.

The V 215 position sensor is also approved for future applications with up to 4 slot or approximation indicators. This only requires expanding to a total of up to 8 terminals. These slot or approximation indicators are certified for protection class EEx ia IIG IIC T6.

Additional inherently safe terminals can be mounted in the enclosure for the future connection of two inherently safe solenoid valves. Furthermore, certified approximation indicators in PC-board design, with or without valve connection, can be fitted (sensor type connected on PC board).

In the variants with connection capability for inherently safe solenoid valves the position sensor is also utilised as a terminal box. Here, 2 additional certified blue EEx-i cable glands are mounted on the enclosure. As connection terminals for the connection of the solenoid valves and their inherently safe supply line Bartec 2-pole mini-terminals, type 07 9702 EEx e I/II, 400V, 2.5mm2 are employed. The terminals have examination certificate number PTB 99 ATEX 3117 U. The two terminals are attached on a metal terminal carrier next to the existing terminals.

The enclosure is of protection class: IP 65

6) Routine testing

The manufacturer must perform routine testing in accordance with Section 24 of EN 50014: 2000 and perform the necessary testing required to ensure that the object manufactured complies with the documentation submitted to the certification body with the prototype or model. Furthermore, the manufacturer must perform the routine testing specified in the relevant European standards. The performance of routine testing does not constitute a substitute for the procedure of Appendix IV to VII of Directive 94/9/EC required by the conformity evaluation procedure (Article 8 of Directive 94/9/EC) together with the module of the EC-type examination certificate.

7) Restrictions/Conditions for safe use and notices for use

The enclosures of the position sensors must be regularly controlled for evidence of mechanical damage, as the guaranteed property of safe isolation can otherwise not be guaranteed.

The protective tubing over the non-sheathed conductors of the individual slot indicators must be present up to the terminal in order to guarantee the isolation distances.

Additional connections mounted for solenoid valves may only be of protection class EEx-i. If necessary, a barrier must also be mounted for these terminals which ensures mechanical protection of the connection cables against moving parts. The specified maximum current and voltage values apply.

1) Object and type

The device tested is a position sensor of the AMG / Pesch Group company of type 215,

equipped with two Pepperl+Fuchs slot or approximation indicators, certified in accordance

with Directive 94/9/EC and safely isolated from each other due to the mounting in the

enclosure.

2) Description

The V 215 position sensor is comprised of a V 215 enclosure with built-in indicators. It serves as a position indicator for the stop positions or intermediate positions of pneumatic swivel drives. The device converts defined mechanical positions of the drive to electrical signals.

The V 215 enclosure is comprised of permanently antistatic polyamide 12 (Vestamid) in the colour black, with different enclosure covers. The dimensions are 120mm x 80mm x 55 mm. In some cases an inspection glass is glued on and a Gore protective ventilation element, type Prevent POV/ M12x1 or POV/ M12x1.5 is attached by screws.

A coupling pin is provided on the centre enclosure base for connecting to the

swivel drives, and the control segment is attached to this by screws. The firm

connection of the signalling device to the swivel drive is implemented by a metal console attached by screws.

A blue, certified EEX-e cable gland is mounted on the enclosure. Alternatively, two slot indicators or two approximation indicators are mounted inside the enclosure. The slot or approximation indicators are certified for protection class EEx ia IIG IIC T6. The conductors of the slot indicators are protected by a sleeve and are attached to two Bartec 2-pole mini-terminals, type 07 9702 EEx e 1/11, 400V, 2.5mm2. The terminals have examination certificate number PTB 99 ATEX 3117 U. The two terminals are attached on a metal terminal carrier. Between the terminal and the control segment an insulating plate of HP 2061 hard paper is inserted into a guide slot.

The approved application must be specified in the operating instructions.

The category and explosion group of the position sensor depend upon the inherently safe feed current circuits. to certified inherently safe electric circuits. The highest values are according to the type designations of the certified indicators incorporated.

Thermal data

The temperature class of the overall device depends upon the temperature class of

the incorporated indicators.

The temperature class of the position sensor is determined firstly by the limitation of

the ambient temperature approved for the enclosure: -20 °C to 80°C and secondly by

the ambient temperature approved for the indicators and their relevant temperature

class. The respective unfavourable case determines the ambient temperature

approved and the temperature class. The coldest approved ambient temperature is

- 20°C.

5) Labelling The labelling (easily visible, legible and permanent) must include the following information:

- Name and address of the manufacturer: AMG Antrieb und Mechanik GmbH, Otto Hahn Str. 23,

D-50997 Cologne - CE – marking, followed by the number of the notified certification body

- Type designation: V215 + "type designation of built-in indicator" - Serial no. if applicable - Year of manufacture

- II 2G - EEx ib IIC T1-T6 - EC-Type Examination Certificate number - Rated electrical data (current, voltage): U0 = 8V, I0 = 3mA

6) Routine testing

The manufacturer must perform routine testing in accordance with Section 24 of EN 50014: 2000 and perform the necessary testing required to ensure that the object manufactured complies with the documentation submitted to the certification body with the prototype or model. Furthermore, the manufacturer must perform the routine testing specified in the relevant European standards. The performance of routine testing does not constitute a substitute for the procedure of Appendix IV to VII of Directive 94/9/EC required by the conformity evaluation procedure (Article 8 of Directive 94/9/EC) together with the module of the EC-type examination certificate.

7) Restrictions/Conditions for safe use and notices for use

Observe the conditions for the indicators employed when connecting these.

The protective tubing over the non-sheathed conductors of the individual slot indicators

must be present up to the terminal in order to guarantee the isolation distances.

Exclude the possibility of mechanical danger during the mounting and adjustment of the indicators and during routine testing.

The operating instructions must contain clear instructions for the selection of the required operational devices in accordance with the ambient temperature and the required temperature class. The temperature class of the position sensor is determined firstly by the limitation of the ambient temperature approved for the enclosure: -20 °C to 80°C and secondly by the ambient temperature approved for the indicators and their relevant temperature class. The respective most unfavourable case determines the ambient temperature approved and the temperature class. The coldest approved ambient temperature is - 20°C.

The relationship between the type of circuit connected, the highest permissible

ambient temperature, and the temperature class, together with the effective

internal reactances for the sensor type incorporated, can be found in the

respective type examination certificate for the sensors incorporated.

The operational devices must have the following notice on the enclosure: "Mandatory compliance with the provisions of the EC-Type Examination Certificate for the incorporated sensors".

8) Safety-relevant information

Safe operation requires a knowledge of the characteristics (see4)) and the

special conditions under 7).
