• The rules of work are changing
• We are judged by a new yardstick
• It is not about how smart we are anymore
• How well we work and play with others are becoming increasingly important
• Intellectual and technical ability have become an entry level requirement
• The components of emotional intelligence have become more and more important

Definition of Emotional Intelligence
• Ability to understand our own feelings and express ourselves
• Ability to understand others and relate with them
• Ability to distinguish between emotions and to be able to name them(emotional literacy)
• Ability to manage and control emotions
• Ability to solve problems of an inter-personal nature
• Ability to generate positive mood and to be self motivated

• Emotional Intelligence (EI) is different to IQ
• Once your technical work is done, you have to tell the world all about it
• Acting appropriately in any given situation - the here and the now
• What your day is going to be like, the next phone call, your inbox, …
• You need to get certain messages across
• You need to engage others to get the job done

• Aim is to equip students with the necessary emotional skills as well

• Focused development towards industry role descriptions - Business Analysts, System analysts, Developers, Project Managers
• Developing a framework to address the shortcomings due to EI
