Brothers & Co-Workers,

I’d like to thank the Women of the Moose for stepping up to help with our weekly dinners. During

this challenging time, the proceeds from the WOTM dinners have been donated to help pay for the

day to day lodge operating costs. Thank you for your generosity, Co-workers!

For the first time in two months, last Saturday we did not have the volunteers needed to offer a

“meal of the day”. Please, if you are available to make a simple meal, please contact Kris Bortz and

sign up to prepare a meal. As is typical, we rely on the same small group of volunteers to step up,

but it doesn’t take long to get burned out!

It’s been great to see so many familiar faces at the lodge during our limited re-opening. The weekly

dinners have been great, but not quite profitable enough to cover all of our bills. The bottom line is

our lodge is struggling financially and will continue to until we’re able to expand operations. And

with eventual change in the weather we’ll only have the option for indoor dining. Fortunately,

Calaveras County has just been downgraded to “Moderate” which will allow us to have indoor

dining for up to 50% capacity. The LOOM Board of Officers and House Committee will discuss how

this downgrade will allow us to expand our operations at their upcoming meetings. We’ll of course

email our members of all planned changes and timeline as soon as we can.

If you’re one of the volunteers cooking, bartending, or donating food or money to help us stay

open—thank you very much! If you’re unable to support the lodge by coming in for a meal and a

drink or otherwise volunteer your time, please consider a modest monetary donation to help us

through this time.

If you are in need of help or know someone who is, please spread the word that on the first

Thursday of each month, between 9 and 11 a.m., the Chapel in the Pines Church next to Big Trees

market, is distributing free groceries to the community, coordinated by Jerry Donakowski,

Gary Korbelik, Robert Sapien, Benny Myers and Bob Freier.

BULLMOOSE OF THE MONTH: Is once again Barry Macler because I’m still not over how good

the dining room floor looks!

Fraternally Yours,

Damon Bortz Governor 209-890-3813

Brothers and Co-workers,

Congratulations to our new Moose Legion Fellow, Damon Bortz. Damon received his Fellowship Degree

of Honor at the conferral ceremony at Yuba City Lodge # 1204 on Saturday, September 19, 2020. Look

for his Blue Coat photo on the wall of Honor soon. Well-deserved Damon! It was a long-drawn-out

process for the Fellowship class of 2020. The Fellowship Degree Honor was to take place at the last

Moose International Convention in Wisconsin this past May, but it was cancelled because of COVID-19.

Then it was cancelled again at the CNMA Convention this past month. California Nevada Moose

Association was the first association to request and receive permission to hold a conferral at a home

lodge. There was also a conferral for the southern CNMA Moose lodges held the same day at the

Bakersfield Lodge, Stockdale # 905.

The CNMA convention on September 11 and 12 was held in Reno and was our first virtual convention.

You can watch a rerun on the new California Nevada Moose Facebook page. The new Board of Officers

now has our first woman member. Cheryl Volden from Oxnard lodge is now our new CNMA Secretary.

State of the lodge. I think our members are entitled to know how the lodge is doing during this difficult

time. First of all, WOTM, thank you for stepping up. Members should know that the ladies have donated

their time and substance to help hold this lodge together. All of the proceeds from the meals they ’ve pre-

pared are going to the lodge. Without these added funds, we would surely be removing more funds from

our CD account than we already have. Our current assets have dropped $27,007.00 or 14.4% since last

September. With the lodge being open for only 3 days a week, and members supporting by coming to

the lodge, we have been able to pay most of the bills. But with upcoming taxes and insurance premiums

coming due, we will be stretching the budget. Please help where you can. Donations are truly appreciat-

ed. Your support by volunteering and your lodge attendance are both also needed. We can survive this

pandemic!

Get Involved, and stay safe,

Fraternally,

Bill Kislingbury, Administrator

Senior Regent’s Update

Hello Moose Members and Co-Workers,

October is here and the leaves are changing. Cool weather will be upon us shortly! And the WOTM will be returning to the twice monthly Chapter meetings schedule soon. More info to come. We only have 2 more dates for our free community lunch program this month, Wednesday, October 14th will be Turkey and Cheese sandwiches, and Wednesday October 28th will be Chicken Salad. All will include chips, fruit and a dessert. Just drive up to pick it up from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Limited delivery available. I have attended several district meetings the past few months and loved hearing about what the other lodges are doing in this time of Covid. They are similar to ours and are helping their communities as well. When I was in the Monterey area over Labor Day, I stopped in at the Monterey Moose lodge and they were excited to hear about what we are doing too! So, if you are in another area, stop by a Moose lodge and say hello! I know it’s early to think about Thanksgiving, but we are still planning on serving our members and the community a free Thanksgiving meal. We will have to go orders, and limited indoor dining based on the current Covid restrictions at the time. Stay tuned! Great news! The Women of the Moose, Chapter #1714 is offering a 50% discount for a Lifetime Member-ship. This offer is good through December 31, 2020. Come May 1, 2020, when we become ONE MOOSE, the WOTM will pay the same as men for dues; $67. For the first 3 years women will pay same as men with no chapter dues. After 3 years WOTM will have to pay the One Moose dues and the chapter dues. Example: $67 for One Moose, plus $32 Chapter dues = $99 per year. If you purchase a Lifetime Membership now, that will cover both the One Moose & Chapter dues for the rest of your Life. See all the details of this promotion within this newsletter. Our Co-Worker of the month is Patti Corcoran! She is our WOTM Chapter Recorder and a very active board member. She has been the backbone or our free community lunch program by coordinating all aspects of the lunch program with a big smile and an infectious laugh with sparkles in her eyes! She has also cooked many meals for our lodge, before and after our reopening, amongst many other wonderful things she does for our lodge! Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and thoughtfulness!!!! You rock!!

Stay Safe Everyone!

Fraternally Yours,

Laurie Ahlberg
