    Easton has a long history of providingvocational learning in land-basedsubjects, sports and public services;we strive to provide learners with anoutstanding experience in a friendly,supportive and safe environment. Ourcampus is one of the most attractive in

    the UK and most of the teaching andpractical facilities have been built in thelast ten years to provide cutting edgeresources in which to learn. Our practicalteaching facilities include a commercialfarm, top rate equestrian, animal care,workshops and sporting facilities.

    We have a well qualified andcommitted staff team who are focusedon ensuring your time at Easton issuccessful, enjoyable and safe. The

    college has over 120 bedrooms andresidential students have the support ofour residential staff team on a 24 hour aday basis.

    Students at Easton play their part indeciding on the direction of the collegethrough a Student Council and throughtwo nominated places on the CollegeGovernors.

    Going to college is not just aboutqualifications, it is about developing asan individual and the college operates aprogramme of enrolment opportunities

    covering a range of interests and sportsthat is available to all full time students.The college is very lucky to have a

    strong relationship with the Universityof East Anglia who validate all of thecolleges higher education courses andlead to the opportunity for students totop up their Foundation Degrees to a fullhonours degree with a top performingUK University.

    A good place to studyEaston College is located 7 miles westof Norwich, next to the Royal NorfolkShowground and near Longwater BusinessPark. The environment is spacious andbeautiful - and is set in 245 hectares offarmland and idyllic countryside.

    There is an extensive network of directbus routes to the College from acrossNorfolk, as well as high quality residentialaccommodation for over 120 students.

    The Colleges Student Services Teamprovides high quality support for students,offering independent information, adviceand guidance as well as support withpersonal and health issues through theprovision of a counsellor and College

    nurse. Student Services was re-accreditedwith the MATRIX Quality Standard forExcellence for their information, adviceand guidance to students.

    Something foreveryoneThe College is known for its vocationalcourses at Levels 2, 3, 4 and above,with qualifications such as Diplomas,Extended Diplomas andFoundation

    Degreesmaking up the majority of full-time provision. Courses combine practicalwork with classroom-based activity thatprovide different curriculum experiences anddifferent subjects to study. Work experience

    and work placements form an integral partof most courses. You will benefit from takingexternal trips linked to your area of study asthese provide a valuable opportunity to lookat the jobs and work linked to your course

    and related industries.Apprenticeshipprogrammes areavailable in: Agriculture, Animal and HorseCare, Arboriculture, Business Administration,Customer Care, Environmental Conservation,Farming and Livestock, Food and DrinkManufacture, Floristry, Gamekeeping,Horticulture, Service Engineering, Sport andSports Turf, Supply Chain Management andVeterinary Nursing.

    Residential

    accommodationThere are 122 rooms on the College site - allsingle study bedrooms for students unableto travel daily to undertake their courses.These comprise of: rooms with en-suitefacilities and other rooms with sharedbathroom/toilet facilities. Accommodationcosts include all meals (Monday toSunday inclusive) and financial supportmay be available to students from lowerincome families through the GovernmentResidential Bursary scheme (still availableat time of printing). Demand for residentialaccommodation generally exceeds supplyand interested students are recommendedto apply early.     FacilitiesOur main teaching block is the JubileeBuilding with classrooms, lecture theatre

    and a large social/study area, called TheGreen Room for students to relax in, buy asnack, lunch or a drink, log-on to emails andwork comfortably in an environmentallysustainable building.

    Student Services, the Learning ResourcesCentre and other cafeteria facilities arealso located in the Jubilee Building. TheCollege is well equipped with computers forstudents to work on, undertake research andcomplete assignments. Students can also usetheir laptops by accessing the College wi-finetwork, available at all points of study andin the Halls of Residence.

    The Sports and Conference Centre has anair-conditioned gymnasium with a range ofweights and cardio-vascular machines. Thelarge sports hall is used for a lot of activitiesby many groups, including participation in

    sporting and enrichment activities - fromaerobics and trampolining to badminton,cricket and football. Outdoor facilitiesinclude full-size football pitches, rugby pitch,outdoor tennis and netball courts, ampletraining grounds and all-weather pitch. Inaddition there are 8 indoor tennis courts and4 outdoor clay tennis courts at the TennisCentre and a new full-size 3-G football/rugbypitch for use by students.

    The Refectory serves a wide range of hotand cold meals throughout the day andingredients for menus are sourced fromlocal Norfolk producers wherever possible. A

    range of other catering outlets are availableacross the site offering many differenttypes of lunch, snacks and refreshments.The College bar is open every evening forstudents (over 18 rules apply for alcohol).

    Other facilities include 48-horse stablingblocks, indoor and outdoor riding schools, across-country course, Olympic-sized indoorequestrian centre and outdoor arena anda purpose-built animal welfare centre. TheCollege Farm grows a range of arable cropsand comprises a dairy unit, pig unit, sheepflock and poultry facilities, organic farminghas also been developed. The deer park was

    planned and built by students. The AnimalCare Centre has an extensive range of animalsincluding reptiles, aquatics, birds and smallmammals. There is also a veterinary nursingroom and a fully equipped grooming parlour.

    There will be a new Engineering buildingopen for 2012 for Agricultural and MechanicalEngineering courses and the College is hopingto have a small herd of alpacas.

    Support for studentsOne of the Colleges strengths is thesupport we offer to all students. Learner

    Mentors and Support Staff offer avariety of different support tailoredto suit individual needs. All full-timelearners study Functional Skills. Thesupport accessed by students is wideranging and includes support forspecific learning diff iculties and 1-to-1classroom assistance. Support issues willbe discussed at interview and an initialsupport plan devised.

    Becoming a studentCollege Familiarisation DasAs part of our commitment tooffering you the best possible startto life and study at Easton College,we will invite you to a CollegeFamiliarisation Day in July 2012. Theaim of the day is to show you around

    the College, introduce you to yourcourse tutor and students on yourchosen course and for us to answerany questions you might have beforeyou start in September. These arean important and enjoyable part ofyour transition into College life soplease try and attend.

    Financial help and adviceIf you are aged 16 - 18 on 31st August 2011,and have lived in the UK for at least 3 years,you will not have to pay tuition, examinationor administration fees on full-time coursesand many part-time courses.

    Client Liaison Officers in Student Services,where necessary, can help you apply forfinancial support towards the cost of yourcourse. This is important if you have financial

    concerns. You may be eligible for a Bursaryfrom the College or another source and youmay be able to request financial assistance bycompleting an application form for fundingsupport.

    We can advise you on studying at theCollege while you are in receipt of benefitsand can also advise on higher educationstudent loans. If you start to experiencefinancial difficulties once you have started acourse at Easton College we would ask you, inthe first instance, to contact Student Servicesto find out where there may be help availablein the short-term and over the course.

    Further Education feesStudents who are aged 16-18 (under 19) on31st August 2011 and have lived in the UK forat least 3 years do not have to pay tuition fees.

    If you are aged 19 or over, or live outsidethe UK or Europe it is likely you will haveto pay tuition fees and an examination/registration fee, UNLESS there arecircumstances which enable fee waiver, suchas - those individuals in receipt of certainbenefits, or if the qualification is their firstLevel 2 or first Level 3 course they are to

    study - please ask at interview or [email protected] for more details.There are also opportunities to apply forProfessional and Career Development Loans(PCDL) financial support.

    International StudentsInternational students on full-time furthereducation courses - such as Edexcel Levels1,2 and 3 - pay approximately 8250 peracademic year, part-time students 5200

    per year. International students on HigherEducation Foundation Degrees and BScHonours Degrees pay course fees of11,750 per academic year. (Prices correct atSeptember 2011).

    Higher EducationAll students on Higher Education courses areexpected to make a financial contributiontowards their tuition fees. The amountto be paid for HE Programmes starting inSeptember 2012 is 5600 for most full-timeprogramme (two years), and pro-rata forpart-time programmes (three years) - seebelow. Students Loans are available andStudent Finance England is responsible

    for financial support with tuition fees,support loans and maintenance grantsfor students on Higher Education courses.Full-time students are also eligible to applyfor a non-repayable maintenance grant ofapproximately 3000 per year (2011).Student Finance England website is www.studentfinanceengland.co.uk

    ALL Foundation Degrees - Full-timeProgrammes Fees of 5600 apply (per year)and Part-time Fees of 2800 (per year).

    High School VocationalLearning / Da visits for SchoolGroupsCourses are offered to students from localhigh schools in Years 10 and 11 as partof their Key Stage 4 curriculum. Studentscome to Easton College for 1 day a weekfor a period of up to 2 years, workingtowards Level 1 or Level 2 qualificationsin Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Care,Countryside Skills, Sport, Public Services

    or Applied Science. The Schools LiaisonDepartment also arranges a programmeof day visits for schools. The Schools Barnprovides a heated classroom base forthe visits with an adjacent conservationarea, pond and woodland garden. Guidestake groups around the farm and estateand the visit programmes are linkedto the National Curriculum. For moreinformation contact the Schools LiaisonDepartment on 01603 731202.

    Transport to Easton CollegeBuses run direct to Easton College from

    Norwich, Wisbech, Narborough, Dereham,Thetford, Wymondham, Attleborough,Fakenham, Wells, North Walsham,Toftwood, Hingham/Watton, Swaffhamand Downham Market. Full details areavailable on our website www.easton.ac.uk. There is also a half-hourly service fromGreat Yarmouth to Norwich, Kings Lynn toNorwich and Norwich to Peterborough (X1)which stops in the village (10 minutes walk tothe College) throughout the day.

    16 -18 year old students can apply for atravel pass to use on the buses and/or trains.Please contact your local County Council. For

    Using our ualification to teach?

    If you are planning to take a teaching/coaching career you should be aware that it isnearly always essential to have at least: Grade C at English Language and Grade C atMaths. This also applies for any student wishing to progress onto Uniform Services -English Language at Grade C is essential.

    towards costs - the amount will dependon family income and circumstances. It isadvisable to do this as soon as possible asNCC only guarantee that bus passeswill arrive in September if you have

    applied by July.For students who have their own transportthe College has ample free parking and a carsharing scheme may be in operation.

    Living on campusLiving in should be considered if you livesome distance from College, or havetransport difficulties. By living on-site you willbe part of a community in which we hopeyou will want to actively participate. At thebeginning of each year a Student Counciland Student Social Committee is elected andin conjunction with Residential Staff they

    will plan and co-ordinate a series of socialactivities both on and off the campus.

    The cost of a single room is 104.00a week and ensuite rooms cost 125.00

    (2011/12) subject to review for 2012/13.This cost includes breakfast, lunchand evening meal. Please contact theStudent Welfare Officer or ResidentialAccommodation Office for details.

    The welfare of residential students,particularly those under 18 living awayfrom home for the first time, is ofparamount importance. We activelyencourage parents to be a part of this,and the Head of Student Services ishappy to talk to students and/or parentsat any time about any issues regardingaccommodation.

    There are a variety of games playedin the sports hall during the eveningsand weekends. All students receivefree membership of the Sports andConference Centre, although there is an

    initial charge of 10 for an induction tothe gym. Students are able to use theSports Centre Gymnasium free of chargeduring off-peak times.

    Eating on campusThe Refectory provides three mealsa day for residential students, and allnon-resident students may also usethese facilities which open at 8.00

    am. Wherever possible, special dietaryrequirements will be catered for. Thereare also cafs within the Jubilee Building,one in the Halls of Residence and a caf inthe Equestrian Centre - all of these cafesserve different food and lunch optionsincluding hot meals, sandwiches,rolls andsnacks. There are also various vendingmachines around the campus sellingdrinks and snacks.

    Using our ualification toteach?If you are planning to progress on to a

    teaching/coaching career you should beaware that it is nearly always essentialto have at least English Language at aminimum of Grade C and Maths GradeC. This also applies for any studentwishing to progress onto a career withinUniformed Services - English Language atGrade C is essential.CHANGE TO ALL DIPLOMA

    COURSE TITLESFor 2012 courses now have the new titlesintroduced for the first time last year - they

    remain the same as previous qualifications butsome have had changed units. The previous titleis not listed in this prospectus.

    Bursar - 1000 each earAll full-time Foundation and honoursDegree students are entitled to anon-repayable Easton College HEBursary of 1000 at the completionof each year. This may not apply if aHigher Education student is in receiptof Fee Waiver as a result of wideningparticipation or deprivation factors.

    ApprenticeshipsFor those who want to train whilstin employment, the College offers arange of Apprenticeships. You will betrained at your employers workplacegaining hands-on experience in yourchosen career, and attend collegeon a day or block release basis.There are two main routes available:Intermediate Apprenticeships andAdvanced Apprenticeships. Eachis designed to meet the particularneeds and abilities of young people,and provide employers with theskilled workforce they need. In orderto participate you will need to findan employer who is willing to pay

    a minimum of 2.60 per hour* andsupport you whilst you are training.

    Intermediate Apprenticeship(12-18 months)Apprentices work towards a Level 2 Work-based Diploma (formerly NVQ), as well asgaining key business skills that employerslook for, such as Maths, English and ICT.Apprenticeships also include an individualtraining programme that is specific to thesector in which you are working in.

    Advanced Apprenticeship

    (12-24 months)Upon successful completion of anApprenticeship it is possible to progressto an Advanced Apprenticeship whereyou work towards a Level 3 Work-based

    Diploma (formerly NVQ), which will teachyou about working in a supervisory/technical role. Functional Skills,Technical Certificates and additionalqualifications are included. It is possible

    to come straight into this level if youhave the necessary experience and/orqualifications.

    With both programmes apprenticesbuild a portfolio of evidence whilsttraining, showing that they arecompetent in given situations. You areassessed regularly, both in the workplaceand at College.

    Could an Apprenticeship workfor me?There are many benefits to following anIntermediate Apprenticeship or Advanced

    Apprenticeship, these include:

    The best of both worldsYou can combine on-the-job training withoff-the-job College attendance whereyou will learn the underpinning skills andknowledge required to carry out your worksafely and effectively.

    You will get paid whilst you are trainingFor an Apprenticeship you must beemployed at a minimum of 2.60 per hour*(October 2011).

    Real-life experiencesGained through having hands-onexperience in an area that you are interestedin, which can be the starting point to a longand successful career.

    On-going support is available from aPlacement Officer and Assessor.They will develop an individual trainingprogramme for you that will maximise yourpotential and give you the sector-specific

    training you require.

    Functional SkillsThese are built into all Apprenticeships so inaddition to a portfolio of evidence, you willalso improve your skills in English, Mathsand ICT.

    Additional qualificationsThese programmes are tailored to theneeds of the job you are doing. Sector-specific training will be part of theprogramme. For example if you are on aSport Apprenticeship you could undertake

    coaching qualifications, whilst AgricultureApprentices could benefit from pesticideor tractor driving qualification.

    *If you work in agriculture your weekly paymust reflect the current Agricultural WagesOrder.

    The complexity and technologyembodied in todays land-basedequipment requires a skilledand competent workforce tocomplement it. A clear and concise

    understanding of theoreticalprinciples and rural developmentissues, together with soundpractical skills, are necessary toensure both efficient and costeffective management.

    There are rewarding careeropportunities within agriculturefor everyone demonstrating theseskills, whether from a farmingbackground or not.

    Facilities at Easton Collegeinclude a 245 hectare estate(120 hectares arable), a pedigree

    dairy herd of 100+ cows plusfollowers, 300+ ewes, a pig unit,demonstration poultry unit,technology suite, welding andfabrication workshop, serviceand repair workshop, power unitworkshop and an extensive rangeof farm vehicles and machinery.

    Centre of VocationalExcellence

    Easton College is a Centreof Vocational Excellence

    (CoVE) in Land Management(Rural Enterprise) awarded

    by the Learning and Skills Council whichacknowledges Easton College as a highachieving college which provides areas of

    specialism. It underlines our commitment tothe Land-based sector, where the College isregarded as providing industry with a welltrained, highly skilled workforce.

    ApprenticeshipThese are Agricultural work-basedDiplomas with pathways and day or blockrelease to the College completed over 12to 24 months.

    Apprenticeships available in thefollowing areas: Livestock Production Agriculture Crop Production Poultry Production Mixed FarmingEntry requirements: 4 GCSEs at gradesD-G (including 2 at grade D) or successfulcompletion of a Level 1 qualification. Youwill need a suitable agreed employer.The college may be able to help findemployment.The course: To provide students withthe necessary skills required to carry

    out the main tasks involved with theirchosen apprenticeship. Assessment is bycompletion of a portfolio of evidence andregular assessment by a college assessor.You will learn a wide range of practicalskills from your employer, with boththeory and practical training covered incollege.Course content includes:The apprenticeship covers theory andpractical training.     OverviewHistorically the Extended Diplomain Animal Management has notbeen viewed as providing a suitablegrounding to allow a learner toprogress into a Veterinary career.However recent developmentsin the form of the RVC Gatewayprogramme have provided avocational pathway into VeterinaryMedicine. The most recentdevelopment announced by the

    RVC are changes in their entryrequirements; to accept, from2010, Extended Diploma in AnimalManagement students directly onthe BSc in Veterinary Medicine.Acceptance via this route requiresthe inclusion of specified unitswithin the Extended Diploma inAnimal Management course beingstudied. However this qualificationwill not be sufficient to gain entryinto all institutions offering degreesin Veterinary Medicine / Science.This pathway could also provide

    Countryside Management coursesare both diverse and intense,with work experience playing anintegral part in all students learningprocesses. Facilities at Easton

    College to support study of thecountryside include a 245 hectareestate, mature and recently plantedwoodlands and hedgerows, aspecies rich wet grassland alongsidethe River Yare and numerous pondsand field margin habitats aroundthe estate. Wildlife monitoring is animportant aspect of all courses andthe physical resource of the Collegeenables students to participate in

    bird, wildflower, small mammal andinvertebrate surveys.

    The College is part of a nationalinitiative to captive breed redsquirrels for release into suitable

    sites. Harvest mice have beensuccessfully bred and releasedinto local sites.     create floral decorations for a rangeof events and occasions, fromweddings to funerals, so customercare is very important.     Land-based EngineeringLevel 3*Service EngineersA 2 year course of study with 6-8 separateweek blocks per year giving all-roundtraining and on-the-job training towardsa career as an Agricultural ServiceEngineer.

    Entry requirements: Successfulcompletion of a Level 2 Apprenticeshipor Level 2 Diploma (Merit overall) inAgricultural Engineering or related Level 2qualification or equivalent to 106 credits.

    The Course: Advanced Apprenticeshipsprovide students with the necessary skillsand knowledge to work at the advancetechnician level within the agriculturalindustry. Assessment is by means ofcompiling a portfolio of evidence, directassessment of skills, online test and workplaced assessment. You will also learn
