Tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanedione Form white solid Melting point 115-116°C. (with sublimation) Boiling range, 760 mm 159°C. Vapor pressure, 87°C. 38 mm. This alicyclic resembles camphor in both odor and volatility, but its particular arrangement of two ketone groups gives it some special properties. For example, it reacts normally with some of the usual carbonyl group reagents but, in other cases, the reaction produces heterocyclic derivatives.
