Assessment Method:Students are required to prepare PowerPointpresentations, based on lessons from atextbook. Each chapter (5 are covered) inthe text has several projects at the end, giving the student the opportunity to practicethe techniques covered in the chapter. There are at least 2 or 3 projects assigned atthe completion of each chapter. Theseprojects are graded at 10 or 20 points each, based on the difficulty of that particularproject. In addition, the

12/15/2010 - As long as a student attends theclasses and completes each project, he/sheshould be able to earn all possible project pointsavailable for the course. Usually, there are 200points of projects assigned for the semester.Students almost invariably complete all projectsfor the entire 200 points. These 200 points areconverted to a percentage and averaged into thefinal average as another test score (in addition to 5one-hour tests at 100 points each). So there are600 possible points available to the student

students are assigned (near the end of thesemester) two additional projects. Both ofthese projects require use of the learnedtechniques covered over the semester, butalso require that the student design their ownlayout and content of the presentation.Assessment Method Category:Group ProjectCriterion:The projects from the textbook all requirethat the student complete specificinstructions, which, in turn, will produce thesame result, regardless of who does theproject. This resulting presentation is printedin the text; so the student (and the instructor)will know whether his/her result is correct. The additional projects (near at the end ofthe semester) are all different, based on ageneral description designed by theinstructor. When each project is assigned, there are specific instructions which must befollowed by the student. There is no specificcorrect presentation; so the grade is basedon whether each instruction is followed, eventhough each student will produce acompletely different presentation. Thegrade, therefore, is assigned at thediscretion of the instructor.
