A Message from Fr. Bob

EASTER MESSAGE

“HE IS RISEN AS HE SAID ALLELUIA ALLELUIA”

Dear friends in the Risen Lord,

On this Easter Sunday, we join Chris ans all over the world to celebrate the resurrec on of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We celebrate the truth of Jesus’ resurrec on from the dead. The truth that forever changed the world; Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. On this Easter Sunday we affi rm our belief in the presence of Jesus in our lives - Christ yesterday, Christ today, and Christ forever.

The celebra on of Easter reminds us all of how gracious God has been to us. “For God so loved the world that he gave us his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” John 3:16

As we celebrate this great mystery of our faith, we are called to share the Good News. Easter is a perfect me to strengthen our faith in the risen Christ. For some Chris ans, Easter is one of the few occasions that they come to church. Please do not let Easter be a spiritual day trip for you, rather, make it a day of renewal on your journey with Christ.

Please join me in congratula ng our friends who received the Sacraments of Ini a on (Bap sm, Confi rma on, and First Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. We pray for them that they may con nue to grow in faith.

Allow me to express my apprecia on and gra tude to all who worked relessly in preparing for the Holy Week and Easter liturgies. Special thanks to the St. Benedict Staff , Sacristans, Art and Environment Commi ee Members, the Choir, Altar Servers, Lectors, Eucharis c Ministers, Hospitality Ministers, Deacon Ed, the Bread Bakers and all those who worked behind the scenes. Please keep up the good spirit of teamwork. May God bless you all!

As many of you are aware, this year I am celebra ng my 25th Priestly Ordina on Anniversary (Silver Jubilee). As part of my celebra on on Easter Monday (tomorrow), I will be fl ying to Rome and am scheduled to concelebrate Mass with Pope Francis in his private chapel of Domus Sanctae Marthae on Thursday, April 7, at 7 am. Be assured that you will be in my prayers. In my absence Msgr. Richard Moyer will be here in residence and will be celebra ng Masses.

Wishing you all a Blessed and Joyful Easter fi lled with love and happiness.

~ Fr. Bob

JAM “Heroic Faith” - March 29Disney’s Hercules movie was my absolute favorite movie. It had everything! Menacing

Crazy, I know.Come join JAM on Tuesday, March 29, as we gather for “Heroic Faith”! We’ll be mee ng at St. John Bosco from 6 to 7:15 pm in the Mul -Purpose Room. All middle schoolers are encouraged to a end. Ques ons? Contact David Rees at [email protected].

Bulle n Ar cle RequestsThe deadline for bulletin articles is 9 am on the Friday two weeks prior to the print date. All articles are subject to edits and are used at the discretion of St. Benedict staff.

Liturgy CornerToday is the greatest feast of the liturgical year! Now, and for 50 days, we celebrate the season of Easter, which ends with the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. St. Paul wrote that, “unless Christ rose from the dead, our faith is in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:17). Through his death, Christ saved mankind from bondage to sin, and he destroyed the hold that death has on all of us; but it is his Resurrec on that gives us the promise of new life, both in this world and the next. That new life began on Easter Sunday. Our Easter readings include our Second Reading from Colossians, which is a reading of hope. Paul reminds us that we have died and our life is hidden with Christ in God. Paul urges us to look forward to what we cannot yet see: “When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory!” We will celebrate Easter Mass singing “Alleluia!”, but there is s ll work to be done. We might refl ect on this as we hear our First Reading from Acts, where we have Peter’s great sermon, his tes mony summarizing salva on history. But what follows this sermon is a commissioning. What Christ has been to us, we must now be to others. This means that as we are sent forth from the empty tomb, we may have to re-journey up to Calvary. ~ catholicism.about.com, and catholicmoraltheology.com
