COLLECT

Oremus.

Let us pray. O God, who on this day, through your Only Begotten Son, have conquered death and unlocked for us the path to eternity, grant, we pray, that we who keep the solemnity of the Lord’s Resurrection may, through the renewal brought by your Spirit, rise up in the light of life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING Acts of the Apostles 10: 34a, 37-43

Manducavimus et bibimus cum illo postquam resurrexit a mortuis.

We ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles Peter proceeded to speak and said: “You know what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree. This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.”

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 118 (117): 1-2, 16-17, 22-23 [24] (℟.: 24)

(Psalm Verses) Give praise to the LORD, for he is good; his mercy endures forever. Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.” ℟. “The LORD’s right hand has done mighty deeds; his right hand is exalted.”

I shall not die, I shall live and recount the deeds of the LORD. ℟. The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done, a marvel in our eyes. [This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad.] ℟.

SECOND READING I Corinthians 5: 6b-8

Expurgate vetus fermentum, ut sitis nova consparsio.

Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a fresh batch of

dough.

A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians Brothers and sisters: Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough? Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a fresh batch of dough, inasmuch as you are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

You may remain seated during the singing of the Sequence by the choir and the assembly. Please stand at the intonation of the Alleluia.

ALLELUIA VERSE Cf. I Corinthians 5: 7b-8a

Alleluia, ℟. alleluia. Pascha nostrum immolatus est Christus; itaque epulemur in Domino. [itaque epulemnur in azymis sinceritatis et veritatis, alleluia.] ℟. Alleluia.

Alleluia, ℟. alleluia. Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed; let us then feast with joy in the Lord. ℟. Alleluia.

GOSPEL John 20: 1-9

Oportet eum a mortuis resurgere. He had to rise from the dead.

On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.

HOMILY

RENEWAL OF BAPTISMAL PROMISES All stand and renew the promise of baptismal faith. INVITATION

Quapropter :

Dear brethren (brothers and sisters), through the Paschal Mystery we have been buried with Christ in Baptism, so that we may walk with him in newness of life. And so, now that our Lenten observance is concluded, let us renew the promises of Holy Baptism, by which we once renounced Satan and his works and promised to serve God in the holy Catholic Church. And so I ask you:

RENUNCIATION OF SIN

Abrenuntiatis Satanæ? Do you renounce Satan?

℟. Abrenuntio. Et omnibus operibus eius? ℟. Abrenuntio. Et omnibus pompis eius? ℟. Abrenuntio.

℟. I do. And all his works? ℟. I do. And all his empty show? ℟. I do.

PROFESSION OF FAITH

Creditis in Deum Patrem omnipotentem, creatorem cæli et terræ? ℟. Credo. Creditis in Iesum Christum, Filium eius unicum, Dominum nostrum, natum ex Maria Virgine, passum et sepultum, qui a mortuis resurrexit et sedet ad dexteram Patris? ℟. Credo. Creditis in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem et vitam æternam? ℟. Credo. Et Deus omnipotens, Pater Domini nostri Iesu Christi, qui nos regeneravit ex aqua et Spiritu Sancto, quique nobis dedit remissionem peccatorum, ipse nos custodiat gratia sua, in Christo Iesu Domino nostro, in vitam æternam. ℟. Amen.

Do you believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth? ℟. I do. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death and was buried, rose again from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the Father? ℟. I do. Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting? ℟. I do. And may almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given us new birth by water and the Holy Spirit and bestowed on us forgiveness of our sins, keep us by his grace, in Christ Jesus our Lord, for eternal life. ℟. Amen.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters), that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father. ℟. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church. INVITATION TO COMMUNION

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that Thou art present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love Thee above all things and I desire Thee in my soul. Since I cannot now receive Thee sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though thou wert already there, I embrace Thee and unite myself wholly to Thee; permit not that I should ever be separated from Thee. Amen.

COMMUNION ANTIPHON I Corinthians 5: 7-8; Psalm 118 (117): 1, 2, 5, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 28, 29

Pascha nostrum immolatus est Christus; itaque epulemur in azymis sinceritatis et veritatis, alleluia.

Christ our Passover has been sacrificed; therefore let us keep the feast with the unleavened bread of purity and truth, alleluia.

(Psalm Verses) Give praise to the LORD, for he is good; his mercy endures forever. Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.” ℟. I called to the LORD in my distress; he has answered and freed me. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man; ℟.

The nations all encircled me; in the name of the LORD I cut them off. They encircled me all around; in the name of the LORD I cut them off. ℟. I was thrust down, thrust down and falling, but the LORD was my helper. The LORD is my strength and my song; he was my savior. ℟.

Page 23: Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord · 2020-04-09 · Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory, alleluia. For the wedding

23

There are shouts of joy and salvation in the tents of the just. “The LORD’s right hand has done mighty deeds; his right hand is exalted. The LORD’s right hand has done mighty deeds.” ℟. I shall not die, I shall live and recount the deeds of the LORD. I will thank you, for you have answered, and you are my savior. ℟. The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done, a marvel in our eyes. ℟.

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad. O LORD, grant salvation; O LORD, grant success. ℟. Blest is he who comes in the name of the LORD. We bless you from the house of the LORD; ℟. You are my God, I praise you. My God, I exalt you. Give praise to the LORD, for he is good; his mercy endures forever. ℟. (Doxology) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. ℟.
