In light of the tragic event in LIsle-Verte sen-
iors residence in Quebec we wished to ad-
dress our own residents families and staff
regarding Suncreek Villagersquos high level of se-
curity and safety
Suncreek Village was built in 2009 with the
latest technology and up to date fire safety
measures available The key factor which led
to lost lives in Quebec was the lack of sprin-
kler system and a lack of firewalls within the
building
Suncreek Village was built with an advanced
sprinkler system with water coverage to
every nook and cranny of the building Every
room bathroom storage room hallway stair-
case etc is equipped with a sprinkler sys-
tem A system that is regularly tested and
maintained
Beyond that our seven neighborhoods are also
firewalled individually including from the
floors above and below them
With our well trained staff regular fire drills
regular maintenance and testing and our close
proximity to Surrey Fire Hall 9 Suncreek Vil-
lage is well equipped prepared and supported
in case of emergencies
The SAFETY of our residents and staff has al-
ways been and will continue to be the para-
mount priority here at Suncreek Village

Accreditation Survey is Cominghellip
As you know from previous newsletters our
Accreditation Canada survey occurs April 28
29 and 30 There will be 2 surveyors one
from Kelowna and one from Ontario who will
look at how we provide safe care in a safe en-
vironment and how we meet international
quality standards
While most of their time will be spent inter-
viewing staff they may want to speak with
residents family and other visitors If you
are approached you can expect that they will
introduce themselves explain their role and
try to help you feel comfortable before asking
any questions You many choose not to par-
ticipate if that is your wish If you do partici-
pate the following are examples of the type of
questions that they might ask
ldquoHow has the staff at Suncreek Village pro-
vided you information about safetyrdquo
Everyone may have a different experi-
ence Someone might remember that
we talk about fire safety at admission
someone else might say they appreci-
ate the safety brochure or the fall pre-
vention brochure Another common
safety experience is how we encourage
good hand hygiene with all the alcohol
based hand rub around the facility
You can probably think of other things
as well
ldquoIf an incident occurs that involves your
loved one are you notified by the staffrdquo
ldquoDo you feel that staff support is avail-
able to you if an incident occursrdquo It is
definitely our policy to notify the resi-
dent and family contact when an inci-
dent has occurred in a manner that sup-
ports the concerns of the family
ldquoAt the time of admission were you advised
of the monthly costsrdquo
ldquoAre there opportunities to give inputrdquo For
instance do you participate on the Fam-
ily or Resident Council ldquoDo you know
who to take your concerns tordquo For in-
stance are you able to access the nurse
or the Director of Care
ldquoAre your requests for services or informa-
tion responded to in a timely mannerrdquo
ldquoDo staff respect your privacyrdquo For exam-
ple do they knock on the door before en-
tering your room Do staff keep resident
charts in a private secure manner
As you can see the questions are not difficult
so please feel comfortable in speaking with the
surveyors Let us know if you have any con-
cerns And as always if you see a safety con-
cern let us know as soon as possible

In light of the tragic event in LIsle-Verte sen-
iors residence in Quebec we wished to ad-
dress our own residents families and staff
regarding Suncreek Villagersquos high level of se-
curity and safety
Suncreek Village was built in 2009 with the
latest technology and up to date fire safety
measures available The key factor which led
to lost lives in Quebec was the lack of sprin-
kler system and a lack of firewalls within the
building
Suncreek Village was built with an advanced
sprinkler system with water coverage to
every nook and cranny of the building Every
room bathroom storage room hallway stair-
case etc is equipped with a sprinkler sys-
tem A system that is regularly tested and
maintained
Beyond that our seven neighborhoods are also
firewalled individually including from the
floors above and below them
With our well trained staff regular fire drills
regular maintenance and testing and our close
proximity to Surrey Fire Hall 9 Suncreek Vil-
lage is well equipped prepared and supported
in case of emergencies
The SAFETY of our residents and staff has al-
ways been and will continue to be the para-
mount priority here at Suncreek Village

Accreditation Survey is Cominghellip
As you know from previous newsletters our
Accreditation Canada survey occurs April 28
29 and 30 There will be 2 surveyors one
from Kelowna and one from Ontario who will
look at how we provide safe care in a safe en-
vironment and how we meet international
quality standards
While most of their time will be spent inter-
viewing staff they may want to speak with
residents family and other visitors If you
are approached you can expect that they will
introduce themselves explain their role and
try to help you feel comfortable before asking
any questions You many choose not to par-
ticipate if that is your wish If you do partici-
pate the following are examples of the type of
questions that they might ask
ldquoHow has the staff at Suncreek Village pro-
vided you information about safetyrdquo
Everyone may have a different experi-
ence Someone might remember that
we talk about fire safety at admission
someone else might say they appreci-
ate the safety brochure or the fall pre-
vention brochure Another common
safety experience is how we encourage
good hand hygiene with all the alcohol
based hand rub around the facility
You can probably think of other things
as well
ldquoIf an incident occurs that involves your
loved one are you notified by the staffrdquo
ldquoDo you feel that staff support is avail-
able to you if an incident occursrdquo It is
definitely our policy to notify the resi-
dent and family contact when an inci-
dent has occurred in a manner that sup-
ports the concerns of the family
ldquoAt the time of admission were you advised
of the monthly costsrdquo
ldquoAre there opportunities to give inputrdquo For
instance do you participate on the Fam-
ily or Resident Council ldquoDo you know
who to take your concerns tordquo For in-
stance are you able to access the nurse
or the Director of Care
ldquoAre your requests for services or informa-
tion responded to in a timely mannerrdquo
ldquoDo staff respect your privacyrdquo For exam-
ple do they knock on the door before en-
tering your room Do staff keep resident
charts in a private secure manner
As you can see the questions are not difficult
so please feel comfortable in speaking with the
surveyors Let us know if you have any con-
cerns And as always if you see a safety con-
cern let us know as soon as possible
Flu Season Update And thanks to you hellip
