Counselors’ Corner
IRMA
The guidance department has been running a
food / clothing pantry for families that were
impacted by Irma. The food pantry is on our
stage and is open on Tuesdays between the hours
of 9:00 am and 11:00 am. If you are unable to
come on Tuesdays during those hours, you can
always call the school to make an appointment.
If you have needs due to being
impacted by IRMA, please call Ms.
Edwards, at 377-3617; she will try
to find a way to meet those needs.
Report Cards
It is almost report card time. Please have a conversation
with your child to see if they really know where they are
grade wise… there is still time to turn in missing
assignments! Ü
If you are in need of a parent / teacher conference, call Ms.
Cathie Breen at 377-3617.

6th Grade Math Happenings!
Irma took a bit of wind out of our sails of progress, but we have recovered well and
are full speed ahead to a successful year of building foundational math skills and
procedures. Our focus has been on transitioning from elementary inquiry methods
with multiple representations to more standard algorithms of operations. We are
currently working on quotients of fractions headed into all operations on decimals.
These concepts require strong basic math facts. Ratios, proportions, and percent are
just around the corner.
Parents, you can help your child by checking their homework nightly,
encouraging them to practice their math facts, and using the online
textbook or USA Test Prep as a resource. Remember there is also after
school math help as well as lunch with Mr. Dozer, our math coach.
Best regards,
Your 6th grade math team
East Naples Middle
School was granted a

Culture Day
8th grade students will have four
different ways to present their
culture: Gab, Garb, Grab and
Grub.
Gab and Grab are kind of alike; both involve talking, but
for Grab students will bring in an artifact from their
culture to walk about. For Grub students will be able to
bring in a unique food from their culture and Garb will
have students dress in an outfit from their culture.
Oct. 26th-Nov. 3rd
Red Ribbon Week
Beginning on October 23rd, East Naples Middle will be
observing Red Ribbon Week. During this time, students
will be given the opportunity to pledge to be drug free, and
learn about the negative consequences that drug abuse can
have on their lives and their future. To promote the event,
students will also be given the opportunity to dress to
specific themes as a mini-spirit week to promote Gator
Pride and the drug free initiative.
Nov. 3rd
Student Council Dance
On November 3rd, East Naples Middle will be having
their first all grade level dance of the year! It is being
sponsored by the Student Council with the assistance of
PTO, and it going to be a Costume Ball. There will be
costume contests, but the masks and props need to stay at
home, and Collier County Dress Code will still need to be
adhered to. There will be food and drink available for
purchase and games and prizes. The cost of the dance is
$5.00 and will require a signed permission slip to attend
from 6:30-8:30pm. All students will need to be picked up
promptly so that our volunteers can go home in a timely
manner. We look forward to seeing everyone there, and
ready to have some fun!
Nov. 6-17th
Canned Food Drive
Partnered with Collier Harvest, East Naples Middle is
organizing a canned food drive for two weeks to help give
back to the East Naples Community. The drive will run
from November 6th-17th. With the help of Collier
Harvest, all donated cans and non-perishable food items
will stay in East Naples and support our neighbours
through the holidays. If you are in the position to do so,
please consider donating cans, pasta, rice, peanut butter,
beans, etc. to our drive. There will be a school-wide
competition between Homerooms, and we are hoping to
put our student's competitive spirit to good use!
Dec. 1st
Student Council Elections
During the month of November, many Gators will be
busy campaigning for student office positions. On
December 1st, Student Council will be holding a school-
wide election with the help of Collier County Supervisor
of Elections. The booths will roll in, the students will vote
and East Naples Middle will have their President, Vice-
President, Secretary, Treasurer and Grade-level
representative for the remainder of the year.
December 14
Theater will be performing Wishful
Thinking on December 14 on the stage
at East Naples Middle School during
periods 2,3,5,6 and 7!
