EBRSO Read Across Louisiana

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff‟s Office participated in The Louisiana Associa-tion of Educators Read Across Louisiana event held this past month at the Mall of Louisiana Deputies read stories to the visiting children at the Dr Seuss-themed affair as the children donned ldquoCat in the Hatrdquo hats and junior deputy stickers The Cat in the Hat the Grinch Thing 1 and Thing 2 were also on hand to help encourage the kids to enjoying reading March 2nd also marks the birthday of the famed story-writer Dr Seuss who invented the word ldquoGrinchrdquo and ldquonerdrdquo Thanks to all the deputies that came out to read

the annual Read Across America event at Audobon Elementary to help stu-

dents enjoy and celebrate reading Cpl Chad Parker read Dr Seuss book‟s

to the students

EBRSO‟s Community Policing Unit joined Riveroaks Elementary and Queen Treiveanna Jen-kins for their Mardi Gras Parade The school named Treiveanna 10 queen after she wrote an essay about her dedication to the school and her commitment to spreading kindness After the pa-rade CPU spoke with the 5th graders about the Sheriff‟s Office daily duties and equipment CPU has scheduled future presentations at the school to talk to the children about bullying bus safety gun safety and other important topics

In February Captain Randy Aguillard travelled to Manama Bahrain to be part of a DARE International training team Thirty Bahrain Police Officers attended the 10 day seminar which certified them to teach the DARE Elementary and Middle school cur-riculum Six others who attended the first training were allowed to shadow the American training team On day nine of the training the DARE candidates went into Bahrain‟s school to teach what they had been taught At the graduation ceremony of these officers the Minister of Edu-cation and the Minister of Interior signed documents allowing DARE Officers to begin teaching in all Bah-rain schools Captain Aguillards parting information to all of the graduates was Keep the Children First
