Moving EarthRevolution: One full orbit (time) around the sun.

One revolution takes 1 year

Rotation: Earth spinning on its axis.

One rotation is called a day.

When ½ the earth is dark, the other ½ is light because of the earth’s rotation.

The Force of Gravity

Gravity█ Can’t see it or touch it.

always present█ The greater the distance

between 2 objects, the weaker the force of gravity

█ The closer the distance between 2 objects, the stronger the force of gravity between them.

Mass The amount of matter

an object contains is it’s mass.

The greater the mass between 2 objects the greater the force of gravity between them.

Gravity & Mass

• The force that pulls the moon around the Earth is called gravity.

• The moon orbits the Earth because of the pull of gravity.

• The Earth moves easily around the sun because the Earth has less mass.

The sun and Earth are called a system because they work together.

Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon.

Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks sunlight from reaching Earth.
