“Project Pipe” was a grassroots project, created by myself and three other passionate associates at DST, aimed at exposing impediments to company productivity. On a daily basis, associates used multiple software tools to manage their projects.
However, the pain-points associates experienced using these tools caused less efficiency. We, the Project Pipe Team, gathered user stories, research tools, and provided potential solutions through a visually engaging video. The project was an invaluable learning experience for our team. We interviewed, surveyed and observed associates in order to discover common issues and better understand user needs. We wanted to do something different than the traditional bullet-point presentation, and while we had no prior experience, we scripted, animated, edited, and produced an informational video. We brought the employee’s
stories to life by producing the video to feel like a movie: using humor, stories, and song parody. !For this project, I performed user and technology research, created video storyboards, wrote and edited the script, created
process models, animated graphics, created custom graphics, voice-acted and collaboratively developed the user personas. !While our actual video production was amateur in nature, the impact was wide-spread throughout the company. We
presented it several times in various locations. We provided a movie theatre experience by showing it on a big screen and providing popcorn and snacks. As a result of this project, DST has changed the way they do business, looking for software that
integrates with each other. As recommended in our video, DST has implemented social web technologies, collaborative software, mobile access, and new corporate policies. !
The video also had an impact on the culture at DST. Previously, associates felt they needed to silently accept the tools they were handed. Now, DST solicits associates for their opinions to understand the barriers they face on the job. By giving a voice
to the employees and challenging the status quo thinking, we have created a more innovative environment.

INNOVATORS GROW UP
OUTPUTCARTOON STORY & VIDEO TO HIGHLIGHT CORPORATE INNOVATION STRUGGLES
!For this project, I recruited associates willing to share and record their stories. With their stories, I created an animated story and subsequently a video presentation to explore the suppression of
the innovative spirit in large corporations. !Innovation comes from the ability to creatively problem-solve. Humans are innately curious and imaginative. This is easy to view in a child. However, as we mature, we teach each other that it is
bad to question the status quo, that it silly to come up with wild ideas, and that we value decisiveness over discovery. !
To achieve innovation, large companies need to change their culture, how they explore and discuss daily challenges, and how to find their way back to the creative spirit of innovation.

DST SERVICE JAM
OUTPUTPRESENTATION & MARKETING FOR AN INTERNAL DESIGN EVENT TO GENERATE VIABLE BUSINESS IDEAS
After attending the Kansas City Global Jam session in March 2012, I was inspired to bring the experience to DST. We coordinated a DST Service Jam committee to plan the event. I developed some tools to outline the process and recruit participants including
logo & slogans, a presentation to outline the process, flyers and communications. We then hosted several internal DST service jams.

In early 2012, I created this presentation to propose that we form an information design team that would consult on system enhancement projects. As an application analyst, I write a lot of technical documentation. However,
clients and other internal associates have difficulty understanding the project through long, text-only documents. In addition, our requirements gathering process usually consists only of data-heavy spreadsheets and lists. I believe
that visual methods of communication could be effectively utilized throughout the project life cycle to ease the client’s ability to absorb the multitude of information.

The Vice Presidents of my company requested that I work on a special project developing a PowerPoint presentation to communicate their future strategies to managers who would need to disseminate their objectives
to associates and clients. I worked closely with them to determine their message and how to accurately present it. I developed custom icons to represent each of their goals and illustrated process flow.

PURPOSETO PROMOTE A FLEXIBLE ENVIRONMENT FOR MOBILE, COLLABORATIVE WORKERS
Before re-designing our building, DST wanted to generate curiosity and let them know that change was coming. The environment would be shifted from
a boxed environment (individual cubicles and conference rooms) to a more open floor plan with lots of collaborative spaces. I developed a flyer campaign
to create a buzz and create a dialogue about working in different ways.
