    Introduction

Welcome to the Early-Mid War US Infantry Field Guide, the “Victory Decision: World War II” supplement coveringthe US Infantry of World War II!

The initial “Victory Decision: World War II” book deliberately covers only four army lists and some vehicles to keepthe rulebook as lean and clean as possible.

The unit stats in this book are consistent with existing units in other “Victory Decision: World War II” books. Thearmy lists are divided by the periods in which they can be used. Victory Decision: World War II divides the conflict

into three periods of time and defines these periods as follows.  Early War: From the outbreak of the war to the end of 1941.

Mid War: 1942 to the end of 1943.

Late War: 1944 to the end of World War II.

These deliberate separations also help to balance the playability of army lists. It is strongly encouraged to only playwithin the same time period.

The US Armoured Infantry Platoon list is useable for Mid and Late War. Use the guideline in Chapter 2 for unitselection.

May your dice always roll high,

     Agis Neugebauer, October 2012

    Early-Mid War US Infantry Platoon

    Early-Mid War US Infantry Platoon

The Army of the United States of America was acitizen army hung upon a skeletal framework ofcareer soldiers. The average GI (short for

Government Issue) or “dogface” was not a trainedprofessional: he was simply there to get the jobdone and gets back home alive. Unlike hisCommonwealth counterparts from Canada and Australia, he had not volunteered for service, hehad been drafted. Nevertheless, the “citizensoldiers” would demonstrate to the world that theycould hold their own with the best of them beforethe war was over.

The U.S. army had taken the lessons of World WarOne to heart: great emphasis was placed on fireand movement. While the Heavy Weapons platoonsuppressed the enemy with covering fire, the rifleplatoons were to manoeuvre to the enemy’s flanks,

and then close with and destroy it. American armour doctrine embraced the sameconcepts as their British counterparts. They hadlittle choice at the War’s beginning, since there wereno American tanks in service in the medium toheavy categories before 1942.

American soldiers were indoctrinated with theconcept of the “citizen soldier.”  Its peacetime army was small, and only the pre-1941 build-up by PresidentRoosevelt allowed the U.S. to be even close to being prepared to fight a war in two hemispheres.
