Safeguarding and Promoting the Welfare of Children

“ Child protection is part of safeguarding and promoting welfare. This refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering, or who are at risk of suffering significant harm.”

What is EHAF?

Early Help Assessment Framework is:• A key part of delivering frontline services ie school, SFSS

etc• It is integrated and focused around the needs of children

and young people.• Standardised early help and early intervention approach

to conducting assessment of a child’s additional needs and deciding how needs should be met

• Practitioners are better placed to agree, with the child and family about what support is appropriate.

Process of an EHAF

• A child is identified with additional needs.• The EHAF Lead Professional should be informed

by the class teacher and will speak to SLT.• The Lead Professional will meet with parents and

fill out the initial EHAF form.• Early Help will be informed• TAC meetings will be held every 6 weeks which

the teacher will need to attend.• Targets are set.

When should an EHAF be initiated?

An EHAF should be initiated when;• Concerns are raised over the child’s physical, social or

emotional mentality.• The child is significantly below national average

expectations and is not progressing.• Concerns are raised over the welfare of the child • Concerns are raised over the family as a whole.• If the child meets 3 or more statements in Thresholds 2 or

3.• If the child meets any statements in Threshold 4 a MASH

referral should be made.

What to do if you have a child on an EHAF

• Complete an EHAF report which will be sent out prior to the TAC meeting. This is to be sent back to the LP at least 2 days before the meeting.

• Request cover - it is of high importance that the people working with the children are involved so we can get a rounded picture of what is happening in the child’s family/school life.

• After the TAC an Action Plan will be sent with small targets for both school and home.
