A number of factors have influenced this growth including an influx of foreign financial institutions such as banks, insurance companies and securities traders, and growing trust in the governance of local institutions. This has been accompanied, however, by a challenging macroeconomic environment. RMIT offers programs aimed at producing highly-specialised graduates in finance and economics to operate effectively in such challenging environments. The Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) degree provides training to enable graduates to perform high-level financial and economic analysis in areas that affect us all such as poverty, inflation, unemployment, taxes, finance, inequality, international competition, consumer behaviour, world trade, economic growth and many others. This program is suited to students who  have an analytical approach to problem  solving and can apply mathematical models to areas as diverse as the running of a  small business to the implications of a change in the interest rate on the value of the currency. A career in the economics  and finance field is likely to provide such  people with a challenging and rewarding career. Career prospects An understanding of economics and finance is essential for employment in most business functions. Past graduates of the Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) degree have enjoyed high levels of employment in a wide range of roles, including treasury dealer, stockbroker, business analyst, researcher, financial accountant, financial planner, corporate lending analyst, client services manager and financial software consultant. Teaching methods and assessment Teaching methods include face-to-face delivery, tutorials, classes, workshops and industry seminars. Students’ achievements in the program is measured by methods including assignments, research, case study analysis, group presentations and examinations. Program structure In the first two semesters of the Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) students will undertake a range of core business studies (common core) before studying specialised economics and finance courses in the areas of fi nancial planning, investment and financial markets law, risk management, microeconomics, macroeconomics and quantitative analysis.
