It was wonderful to see so many of your walking proudly away from parents
evening this week. A true reflection of how we should all be feeling about the
children here at Kestrel Mead. We had a wonderful end to the half term with our
‘wear red’ day for the Glenfield Heart Unit. A local charity that do some amazing,
life saving work. Thank you to the family who donated some beautiful biscuits to
raise additional funds. We will share the amount after half term.
We were treated to a dance demonstration from the Kestrel Dance Crew and this
morning was also our ambassador assembly. Children who ALWAYS behave, do
the right thing and champion our character behaviours are rewarded. They
become ambassadors and have a wonderful assembly dedicated to them. They
will be deciding their jobs and responsibilities after half term. Well done to these
5 fabulous young people.
Enjoy the half term with your families and friends, hopefully the stormy weather
passes and you manage to get some outdoor HYGGE moments as the days get
longer.

EAL Coffee Morning
Our next EAL coffee morning will take place on Tuesday 17th March at the Nest,
Infant building from 9am to 10am. It would be great to see old faces and some
new ones too! The coffee mornings are a great way to chat to other families and
share advice or ideas on how to help children learn English. This session will
focus on how we can support children when homework and the fun ways we can
do our homework.
I hope to see you there!

Votes for Schools
In class last week, we were thinking about our mental health and wondering if we could help
others. Most children in school thought that they could support someone with mental health by
talking to them, making them laugh and asking how they are and why.
We discovered talking about our feelings makes us feel better and can help our feelings before
turning into big feelings that are difficult to change.
On Tuesday it was ‘Safer Internet Day’ and our question covers being safe online as well as seeing
the internet as an inspiration for the future.
“Would you like to be a youtuber?”
Attendance Winners W/C 03/02/205 Blackbird with 98.5% and 18a with 99.2%!
We encourage children to ‘Go for Green’ in 2020
and achieve attendance of at least 97%!
February Half-Term: Mon 17th – Fri 21st February. Children will return to school on Monday 24th February. We hope you all have a lovely break!
Fire Rescue and Service TalkThis week, Year 1 & Year 5 have been super lucky as they have
had a visit from Leicester Fire Rescue and Service! They showed
the children the fire engine and all the different parts and how they
worked. The firefighters taught the children about how to stay safe
at home and shared some very important messages with them.
They also explained the importance of their uniform and taught
them about the different features that keep them safe. Year 1
children then used this information to write up a non-fiction page
all about firefighter’s uniforms. The fire fighters talked about how
they help the public in many different ways including fires, animal
rescues, and working with the community. The children were really
curious and loved asking and answering questions during the visit.

Sustrans
Thank you to the Eco Warriors who worked with
Chris from Sustrans yesterday. They spent time
outside looking at the ways we travel to and from
school. We noticed the resilience of many people
walking despite the wet, cold weather. Thank you
for doing what you can to keep us safe on our ways
to and from school. As always, there are still ways
that we can improve and the Eco Warriors will be
working with Chris on this over the next few weeks.
