Run Eagle-Server from the CD (1)1. Ensure PC is set to boot from the CD-ROM first. Change BIOS settings if necessary.2. Place the Eagle Server CD into the tray of the PC.3. Restart the PC.

4. At the Exploration Server prompt, press <Enter> to boot.

5. After the drivers and settings are loaded, select option "1” to run the Linux software program from the CD and RAM.

6. Eagle server software has a pre-configured IP address of 192.168.254.254.Top

Install Eagle-Server to a Linux disk partition (installEXT)

This option is for use on a Linux computer with a unused EXT2 or EXT3 partition.

1. Reboot from the Eagle Server CD.

2. At the opening screen press <Enter>. This will load the Linux kernel.

3. Type menu option installEXT and press <Enter>.

4. All the available partitions will be listed and you will be prompted to “Enter device name:”

Enter the partition name exactly as you see it. For example, you would enter “/dev/sda2” without the quotes if you wanted to install the Eagle-Server on the second partition. You can only enter a partition name that is listed.

5. You are prompted to continue. Important: This is your last chance to quit. If you continue, ALL INFORMATION ON THE SELECTED PARTITION WILL BE ERASED. If you want to proceed with the install type “y” and press <Enter>.

6. The installation will take approximately 15 minutes, depending on the speed of the CD. You will be prompted to press <Enter> to return to the menu.

7. Type “reboot” and press <Enter>. The CD will be ejected. Remove it and the PC will reboot to disk.

8. If the PC boots directly to the Eagle-Server without displaying the grub boot menu, please read the Linux Grub Information section below.

Install Eagle-Server on a Windows FAT partition (installonFAT)

1. Create and format a 4 GB FAT file system partition (not NTFS) on a MS Window PC hard drive. IMPORTANT: This option will overwrite your Windows partition if a second partition is not created! Disk partition utilities are available from the Internet. How to create a second FAT partition is beyond the scope of this document.

2. Reboot from the Eagle Server CD.

3. At the opening screen press <Enter>. This will load the Linux kernel.

4. Type menu option installonFAT. Follow the instructions that are displayed. The installation will take approximately 15 minutes, depending on the speed of the CD.

5. Leave the CD in the tray, required to access the server partition when the computer is rebooted.

6. When the server is rebooted, press <Enter> and type menu option runondisk.

Linux Grub InformationSome PCs encounter problems seeing a boot menu after installing Eagle-Server. The following will help you restore your grub boot menu.

1. Open a Terminal Shell session2. At the prompt, type “su –“ and press <Enter>. (There is a space between “su” and “-“)

When prompted for a password, type “cisco” and press <Enter>. Your prompt should change to “[root@Eagle-Server ~]#”. You are now the root superuser.

3. Type “grub” (without parentheses) and press <Enter>. This will change the prompt to “grub>”.

4. Type “find /boot/grub/stage1” and press <Enter>. This will return the boot locations of your grub files. If multiple lines are returned it is a good bet that the first one is your original boot grub location. It will look something like: (hd0,1), where the “0” is the disk, and the “1” is the partition.

Note: This “find” command can mislead you on the next step. The partition numbers given here are relative, where the “root” command wants the absolute partition number. You will need to subtract 1 from the partition numbers shown on this screen when you enter your disk and partition information in on the root command.

5. Type “root (hd#,#)” Enter the information that was returned from the find command in the previous step, remember to subtract 1 from the partition number (second number). For example if (hd0,1) was the first line returned, then type “root (hd0,0)”.

6. Type “setup (hd#)” and press <Enter>. Replace the “#” with the disk number returned in step 4.

7. Type “quit” and press <Enter>. This will return you to the “[root@Eagle-Server ~]#” prompt.

8. Reboot the Server.9. If the system boots to a “grub>” prompt, don’t despair…you are almost there! Re-enter

steps 5 and 6 again. Then type “reboot” and Press <Enter>.

Your system should boot normally now. If you don't see the boot menu, read the prompt as it may be asking you to press “ESC” for the boot menu. If you don't press anything the system should automatically boot to your original Linux configuration.

Boot Eagle-Server in Microsoft Virtual PC1. Install Microsoft Virtual PC.2. Create a folder named “Eagle Server” in the “My Virtual Machines” folder (Usually in “My

Documents”)

3. Copy the file “eagle-server-v2.0.iso” into the “Eagle Server” file just created.4. Start Microsoft Virtual PC.5. In the Virtual PC Console, click “New…” to create a new virtual machine.6. Click “Next” in the “New Virtual Machine Wizard”7. Choose the option “Create a virtual machine”. Click “Next”.

8. In the “Name and location” dialog box, type “Eagle Server”, then click “Browse”. Browse to and open the “Eagle Server” folder created in step two. Click “Save”. This will create your virtual machine named “Eagle Server.vmc” in the “Eagle Server” folder.

9. Choose “Other” for the Operating System. Click “Next”.

10.Choose the option for “Adjusting the RAM”. Type in “512” in the dialog box. Click “Next”. Note: Make sure you have enough RAM!

11.Choose the option for “A new virtual hard disk”. Click “Next”..12.Click “Finish” to complete the Virtual Machine Wizard.

13.In the Virtual PC Console, select “Eagle Server” and click “Start”.14.In the Virtual Machine, click on the “CD” menu and click “Capture ISO Image…”.

15.Choose the “eagle-server-v2.0.iso” file copied in step 3 and click “Open”.16.Click the “Action” menu and click “Reset”. If prompted with a dialog box, choose “Reset”.

17.The virtual machine should automatically boot to a menu. Enter “1” beside the “Option:” prompt and press “Enter” to boot the Eagle Server.

Install Eagle-Server in Microsoft Virtual PC1. Follow all steps listed above to boot the Eagle Server.2. Once Eagle Server is booted, a command prompt labeled “Shell – Konsole” will appear. At

the prompt, type “su –“ and press <Enter>. (There is a space between “su” and “-“) When prompted for a password, type “cisco” and press <Enter>. Your prompt should change to “[root@Eagle-Server ~]#”. You are now the root superuser.

3. At the prompt, type “fdisk /dev/hda” and press <Enter>. Fdisk will ask for a command. Enter “n” to create a new partition and press <Enter>.

4. When prompted, press “p” and press <Enter> to create a primary partition.5. When prompted, press “1” and press <Enter> to create partition number 1.

6. Press <Enter> twice to accept the default parameters for the partition. This should put you back at the “Command” prompt within fdisk. To verify the partition, type “p” and press <Enter>. Under the “Device Boot” column, “/dev/hda1” should appear. To finish creating the partition, type “w” at the prompt and press “<Enter>.

7. To reset the Eagle Server, type “shutdown –r now” at the root prompt and press “<Enter>.8. Once Eagle Server has restarted, at the “Option:” prompt, type “installEXT” and press

<Enter>.

9. When prompted for a device name, type “/dev/hda1” and press “<Enter>. Type “y” and press <Enter> to proceed with installation. This will install Eagle Server to the partition you just created.

10.Once the installation is completed, you will be prompted to press <Enter> to return to the main menu.

11.Click the “CD” menu and click “Release ‘eagle-server-v2.0.iso’” to “eject” the CD. 12.Type “reboot” and the “Option:” menu and press <Enter>.

Create Eagle-Server Virtual Machine in VMWare Server

1. Install VMWare Server. This guide is based on Version 1.07. (software can be downloaded from: http://www.vmware.com/download/server/)

2. Start VMWare Server

3. In VMWare Console, click “Create a new virtual machine”.

4. Click “Next” until you get to the following Screen.

6. Click “2. Linux” then click on “Next”.

7. Enter “EagleServer” in the Name box and then click on “Next”.

8. Click on the “Next” button until you reach the following screen.

9. Enter in how much memory you want to allocate for Eagle Server. (minimum memory is 768MB). This can be changed later if necessary. Click “Next” until you get to the following screen..

10. If you see this screen make sure to click on “IDE” then click the “Next” button. Note: Eagle Server will not see a SCSI Virtual Disk file later on during the Install process.

11. Eagle server requires at least 4GB of disk space. Set how much disk space you want and then click “Next”.

12. Any file name can be entered here, this is the default. Click on “Finish” and VMWare will format the new file so that it can be used later on.

13. Click on the “Edit virtual machine settings” button.

14. If you have stored the Eagle-Server ISO file on your hard drive you can point to that file to use for your CD-ROM device. This is faster than reading from a CD. If you do not change this option you must have previously made an Eagle-Server Live CD and have it loaded into your CD drive. A copy of a RAR compressed file containing the ISO image of Eagle Server can be downloaded off of the NetAcad web site.

15. Proceed to Installing Eagle-Server in VMWare Server.

Install Eagle-Server in VMWare Server

1. Follow steps in previous section to Create an Eagle-Server Virtual Machine in VMWare Server.

2. Click on the “Power on the virtual machine” button. Press <Enter> until you see the following screen.

3. We need to create an EXT3 partition before we can install to disk. Enter “1” and then press <Enter>.

4. Once Eagle Server is booted, a command prompt labeled “Shell – Konsole” will appear. At the prompt, type “su –“ and press <Enter>. 9. Type “shutdown – r now” to restart the Eagle-Server. VMWare automatically changes the boot sequence to boot from disk and we need to boot from the CD / ISO again. So be ready for the next screen as you need to time your response.

10. When you see this screen press “ESC” to get to the Boot Menu. Note: You only have a couple seconds to press ESC, otherwise VMWare will try to boot from disk even though we haven't installed Eagle-Server yet.

11. Type “3” so VMWare will boot from CD/ISO again, then press <Enter>.

12. Once Eagle Server has restarted, at the “Option:” prompt, type “installEXT” and press Enter.

13. When prompted for a device name, type “/dev/hda1” and press “<Enter>. Type “y” and press <Enter> to proceed with installation. This will install Eagle Server to the partition you created earlier.

14. Once the installation is completed, you will be prompted to press <Enter> to return to the main menu.

15.Type “reboot” at the “Option:” menu and press <Enter>.

16. Once Eagle-Server is booted, log back into superuser (refer back to step 4) to start your ethernet interface.

17. Type “ifup eth0:1” at the“[root@Eagle-Server ~]#” prompt and then press <Enter>.18. Type “ifconfig” to verify that the interface is up and running with ip address:

172.31.254.254.
