Tuition Reminder In accordance with school policy, all accounts
must be paid for the current year by May 31st. Monthly
payments are on a 12-month basis for all grades. This
means that a payment is due the 1st of each month begin-
ning in July and ending with 2 payments in May. The
final payment for the year will be due May 31st.
Any student whose account is not paid in full by
May 31st will not receive a report card and/or a gradua-
tion diploma. If transferring to another school, records
will not be sent. Please check your account to make sure
your payments have been kept up to date.
Please call the school office at 473-7592 with any
questions or concerns you have concerning this matter.
Library Reminder All library books should be returned to the school
library by Friday, May 10. Final report cards will be held
until all books are returned. If a book has been lost or
damaged, a charge will be assessed to replace the book.
Teacher Appreciation Week Join us in showing appreciation for our teachers
as we celebrate a “Redneck”-themed “Teacher
Appreciation Week” on May 6-10. Cards,
notes of thanks or special drawings are
welcome as we take the time to honor our
teachers who give so much of themselves
throughout the year. On Thursday,
May 9, students and staff will enjoy a
special “Redneck” dress-up day—just
keep in mind that shoes are required!
Plan to join in on the fun!
Piano Recital A piano recital involving Mrs. Crooks’ current
piano students will be held on Thursday, May 16. The
program will begin at 7:00 in the church sanctu-
ary with refreshments to follow. Come and
enjoy an evening of piano music as the stu-
dents share their God-given talent with us.
Forms Needed Please be reminded that the following forms are
needed before the start of the 2013-2014 school year:
Physical form completed by physician—grades K4,
Kindergarten, 6, 11
Dental form completed by dentist—grades Kindergar-
ten, 3, 7
K4—5th grade students will be enjoying an afternoon of games and competition on
Wednesday, May 29, beginning at 12:00 pm. Parents are welcome to attend!
“Fishers of Men”
The captain and her crew are about to embark on
a long journey focused on treasure—telling others about
the treasure of Jesus, that is! Just as one faces both suc-
cess and setbacks as he strives to follow Christ, so the
shipmates of this vessel face the challenges of storm and
pirates in their quest to achieve what God has commanded
them to do.
Join us Thursday, May 9, at 7:00, as the ele-
mentary students share, in drama
and song, this example of how
Christians can conquer their fears
and have success through faith in
God. This program is sure to be a
blessing—we hope to see you!

Seniors Experience Literature You may have read The Canterbury Tales by
Geoffrey Chaucer, but did you know that the motive be-
hind writing this work was to show how corrupt the
Catholic Church was back in medieval times? The story
is comprised of the tales told by twenty-nine pilgrims
travelling on their pilgrimage to Canterbury.
As stated by one of the class members, “we were
required to do a character analysis on the pilgrim of our
choice. We then had to do an oral presentation in class
dressed as our pilgrim. We learned that some of the pil-
grims were respectable people, some were very evil and
corrupt, and that only one of the twenty-nine pilgrims was
an honorable man. The class had fun dressing up and
seemed to learn from the assignment.” Thank you, Mrs.
Rothermel, for allowing your class to experience 14th
century Literature in a very tangible way!

Summer Reading Current 8th-11th grade students will be required
to complete summer reading requirements before return-
ing to class next fall. Information concerning the require-
ments will be sent home with mid-term grade sheets to
students in those grades.
SCA Yearbooks The 2012-2013 SCA Eagle Edition will be avail-
able mid-May. Mrs. Rothermel and the yearbook com-
mittee have done a beautiful job in designing this special
remembrance of the school year—we thank them for the
many hours given to this project. Those who pre-ordered
yearbooks earlier in the school year will soon be given
information concerning the remaining payment due and
the actual date yearbooks will be available.
Coaches Needed Are you a former (or current) soccer or basketball
player who has a desire to help mold the lives of young
people here at SCA? The SCA Athletic Department is
currently in need of assistant coaches for girls soccer as
well as head and assistant coaches for JV girls basketball.
If you (or someone you know) have a solid Christian testi-
mony, know the game of soccer or basketball, enjoy
coaching and are available for after-school practices and
games, please contact the school office at 473-7592 or
through email at [email protected] for more information and
to set up an interview.
Balloon Cars Fifth grade has been building balloon cars to il-
lustrate the principles of rocketry. The development poses
simple mechanical challenges that the students have been
applying in their design. Soon we will compete and ob-
serve whose construction will win the race!
~Mrs. Kelly Gross
City-States The fifth grade class recently studied ancient
Greece and the arrangement of city-states customary of
that time period. Students applied what they learned as
they “developed” and named their own city-state, created
a poster of it, and determined whether their city-state
would follow the Athens or Sparta form of government.
The class established the following original city-state
names: “Sparticuse,” “Rigagy,” “Linea,” “Polropilis of
Sparta,” “SunnyShine Republic of Athens” and “Divora.”

Sports Fee Any Middle or High School student who will be
playing soccer, JV/Varsity basketball and/or participating
in SCA Track meets next year will be required to pay a one-time sports participation fee of $50.00. This can be
paid any time prior to the start of the school year, and
helps to offset the cost of referees, uniforms, equipment,
etc.

“Book It!” We all know that reading is important, and what
better way to encourage reading outside of school than
with a reward?! This winter, SCA Kindergarten through
5th grade students again took part in “Book-It,” an ele-
mentary reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut. Each
month from October through March students were given a
monthly calendar or reading “contract” along with grade-
appropriate reading goals. After meeting the month’s
goals, students were given a certificate for a free personal
pan pizza at Pizza Hut. Those students who met the read-
ing goals for all six months were honored with the title
“Book-It All Star” for the school year. Congratulations,
students—keep on reading! Pictured below are
SCA’s 2013 “All Stars,” listed with grade level.
ACAA Track Meet Many SCA 6th-12th graders
will have the opportunity to partici-
pate in competitive Track and
Field events on Tuesday, May 14,
during the ACAA Track Meet at
Bloomsburg University. This meet takes place
once a year and involves approximately a dozen Christian
schools from central Pennsylvania. Mrs. Hernandez and
Mr. Jackson have been working with stu-
dents during PE classes and after school
practices to develop skills and build
strength and endurance in preparation
for the event. If you enjoy Track and
Field competition, consider attending
this free event—your support in the
stands will be very welcome!

So Many Things To Do! The Kindergarten and first grade classes recently
visited the Children’s Museum in Bloomsburg. There
were over 50 interactive exhibits! Oh, the fun and excite-
ment seen and heard at each exhibit! The first graders’
favorite items were the Pneumatic Air Machine, the Giant
Bird Nest, the Coal Mine and the School House. Favored
by the Kindergarten class were the Let’s Pretend Theatre,
the Coal Mine, Egyptian Dress-Up and Craft, and the
Eastern Woodlands Longhouse where they were able to
dress up like a bear. So many things to do! We certainly
would enjoy a return visit to this FUN place!

Move-Up Day The K4, Kindergarten and 5th grade classes will
enjoy a small “taste” of what next year’s classes will be
like as they participate in “Move-Up Day,” which will
take place Wednesday, May 15th. We have found that
this special day helps to build excitement about what’s
ahead for next year and eases the transition about to take
place. Thank you in advance, Mrs. Drumheller, Mrs.
Thomas and Middle School teachers, for your part in
helping these students prepare for next year!
Please remember to keep SCA in
prayer during
Healthy Foods—and Reptiles?! The second grade class recently visited Giant
Markets, Danville, to learn the importance of eating
healthy foods. Students were taken around the store and
reminded how to choose the right kinds of foods. They
moved from the produce section to healthy cereals, on to
the deli and bottled water, next to the dairy section and
then finished at the health and beauty aids area. The stu-
dents learned that it is important to take care of the inside,
as well as the outside, of their bodies. One of the favorite
parts of the tour was seeing a live lobster. They received
grapes to eat and took home a reusable grocery bag filled
with goodies.
From there, the class travelled to Clyde Peeling’s
Reptiland, in Allenwood. They were met inside the first
door by two large alligators—or were they crocodiles?!
Students were taught that there are several ways to tell the
difference between the two, but we’re not sure that we
would remember the differences—or really care!—if we
ever met up with one! There were lizards, turtles, tor-
toises, beautifully colored frogs, and lots of snakes.
Yuck! It seems that the prettier frogs are, the more poi-
sonous they are. The class peered through the fence to try
to see the dinosaur exhibit that will be featured next
month. And there was also a special bat-feeding presenta-
tion. What was he doing at Reptiland?! The second grad-
ers enjoyed their special field trip day!
~Mrs. Cathy Leshinskie
Elementary Basketball An enthusiastic group of 4th-6th grade students
enjoyed several weeks of basketball practices and games
during the recent Elementary basketball season. Each
young athlete progressed in skill and confidence, both in
game victories and losses. There are exciting things
ahead for SCA JV teams and we look forward to seeing
these young athletes in the years to come!
