Mark roll and introductions (5 mins) 2. 11:10 Brief recap quiz (15 mins): what is adversity? (a difficult situation or condition : misfortune or tragedy) What adversities/types of adversity does King George VI face in the film the king’s speech? (speech impediment, unwanted responsibility and power, pressure to use radio to communicate, public speaking) What did you learn from your powerpoint about the social, historical and cultural context of the period in which the movie is set? (1939) Give me one for each: social Snow White/Wizard of Oz releases Historical: First Nazi concentration camp 1933, Hitler chancellor 1933, cultural: Richard Halliburton a world explorer – display some example powerpoint slides from last lesson to prompt discussion 3. 11:25 Elective key terms and definitions (15mins) Students to copy the key definitions from the BOS syllabus on unit plan for concept, context, critical thinking, interpretation, representation, and textual integrity. Discuss these terms and definitions. 4. 11:40 Discussion on what the students think about relating these key words to the King’s Speech (15mins). Last lesson the powerpoint related context; we researched 1939 as a context. You know that adversity is a concept that is represented in this film. Display module outcomes.
