9. What is E-RateE-rate is the name for the schools and libraries program of the Universal Service Fund, under the directions of the Federal Communications commission (FCC) 10. It's function E-Rate functions as a program which provides discount to assists most school and libraries in the United States. 11. Telecommunications Act of 1996

  • The E-Rate fund was authorized as part of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Section 254 which provides universal service to everyone at reasonable rates

12. Eligibility Schools:All elementary and secondary schools. Private schools are eligible as long asdo not have an endowment exceeding $50 million. Libraries:Public librariesThis includes individual library branches, library facilities, library systems and library consortia. 13. Services Available Telecommunication Services: regular telephone linespagers, high bandwidth telecommunication services, and satellite delivery Internet Access:E-mail and access to the World Wide Web Internal Connections--Bringing the Technology into the Learning Environment: Routers, hubs, network file servers, wireless Local Area Networks and software needed for operation of file servers. 14. DiscountsWhat are the Discounts? Discounts range from 20-90 percent and are based on economic disadvantage and geographic location. 15.   • The FCC designed the application process to promote cost effective and accountable solutionsSchools and libraries are required to conduct an assessment of their current technology resources and explain how they utilize them for their education mission
