Living Labs• Defined in multiple ways (research literature review)

• Bringing the lab to the real-life environment: Research and development in ICT, bringing “users/citizens” into the system of innovation.

• Linking student and researchers creativity with the surrounding

• Services as ideation, analysis, construction, deployment, use, evaluation, research and management of innovation in real-world convergence of different forms of research and practices

• Close to other kind of collective innovation spaces (makerspaces, hackerspaces, Fab Labs, co-creation spaces or co-working spaces…)

Living Lab Typologies

The typology is based on two dimensions:

1) Top-down and bottom-up focus

2) Driving party roles: Living Labs as providers,

users, utilizers, and enablers (Westerlund &
