i) History of the Institution

Vijaya Teachers College was established in 1960. It is one of the 17 institutions run by BHS Higher Education Society, Jayanagar, Bengaluru. The college is situated in 4th Block Jayanagar, Bengaluru, a prime locality in the city which is easily accessible from main Bus station and city Railway station, as well as from different parts of the city.

Both B.Ed. and M.Ed programmes have full-fledged, well qualified and experienced faculty as per NCTE 2014 regulations. The college has a spacious building with all the required infrastructural facilities for students and staff. The college has two demonstration schools under the same management and has good linkage with 10-15 high schools to conduct practice in teaching.

On the recommendation of Ministry for Human Resource Development, Government of India, the State Government upgraded Vijaya Teachers College as College of Teacher Education in 1997. Since then the college has been conducting in-service training programmes for secondary school teachers. The programmes are financed by the Government. The college management has provided the lodging facilities for the in-service teachers who attend the


training programme. So far 5000 teachers have been covered under in-service programme in various school subjects of Bangalore South, Bangalore North, Ramanagar and Kolar dist.

The college faculty is actively involved in research and extension services to orient teachers at primary and secondary level through DSERT, NCERT, Head Master's Association, Primary Teachers Association, Secondary School Teacher Association and other NGO's.

The performance of the students in this college has been consistently good in the last 47 years with an average of above 90%. The college has a proposal to commence need based courses and short term courses for working teachers from the next academic year.

M.Ed. programme was started in the year 2009. It is recognized by NCTE and affiliated to Bangalore University. The performance of Post Graduate students is above 98%. The students bagged 2 Gold medals in the academic year 2014-15.

Vijaya Teachers College was approved by Bangalore University as Research Center for pursuing Ph.D. degree in Education in the year 2014-15.

Vijaya Teachers College has established a Resource Centre for Inclusive Development and Inclusive Education (IDIE) with an NGO CBR Network, South Asia, Bangalore in the institution premises.

Vijaya Teachers College is functioning as the Study Centre for IGNOU B.Ed. and M.Ed. programmes since 2006.

The college has paved its successful golden path and celebrated Golden Jubilee in the year 2010-11.

A programme was organised in collaboration with an NGO called Break Through. The programme was on Enough is Enough. They gave information about sexual harassment, abuse, legal matters and constitutional provisions.

On 18th Feb a programme was organised on the account of birth anniversaries of Lala Lajpat Roy and Tatty Tope. The Guest of Honor was Sri. B. G Nandakumar, IAS, commissioner of collegiate education, Govt of Karnataka. This program about the unsung heroes, inculcated patriotism and national values.

Personality development workshop was organized on 11th April and Mr. Satish from ‘Advanced Minds’ was the resource person. It immensely boosted the memory techniques, self-confidence and communication skills in student-teachers.

On the account of world Space week and late Dr. Abdul Kalam’s birthday, a talk was organised Dr. Ananth from ISRO, Bangalore was the guest speaker on 3rd Oct. Our student teachers were also made aware of job opportunities in ISRO, space missions etc.

A special training program for student-teachers was organised by Adamya Chetana on November 17th about Environmental awareness.
