    POWER PLANT INSTRUMENTATION

ControlLogix 5000 PLC is used for Interlock of power plant Auxiliaries.

SCADA system is used for operating

equipments as well as On-line recording of Analog data.

2 * 25 KVA UPS system is used for power back-up of instruments. During auxiliarypower failure UPS power is associated withthe equipment safety.

Individual Indicators/Controllers aremounted at control desk and hoocked-upwith the SCADA system.

Advantages of PLC1. PLC is easy to program and install. PLC is provided with quick releasetype screw connections for fast wiring of input and output devices. PLCediting features allow program changes, corrections, and loadingprocedures to be accomplished in a matter of seconds in most cases.2. The speed with which internal timers operate is much faster than

conventional time delay relay systems. For example, a typical time delayrelay can produce a short delay as fast as 150 milliseconds (ms)., with areset period of 300 ms. A PLC can produce a short delay of 15 ms, withreset period of approximately 15 ms. In terms of speed difference betweentwo systems, a PLC is roughly 13 times faster. An assembly machineusing a PLC would therefore have a higher productivity rate.3. Access to PLC is restricted by hardware features such as key locks, and by software features, such as passwords . Timers and their timingsvalues can also be protected through special commands.

Advantages of PLC4. Problem solving with PLCs is a major advantage over any other type of control system. Many PLCs are provided with diagnosticindicators which monitor power supply, central processing unitfaults, low battery power memory backup, input and outputconditions, forced output conditions, etc.5. PLCs can be designed with communication capabilities that allowthem to converse with local and remote computer systems or toprovide human interface. These interface range from simple light or annunciator system with alphanumeric displays, to elaborate videoscreens that allow the current state of process to be viewed.6. PLCs are extremely reliable control devices and can obtained informs that can survive and function in harsh conditions. They can

meet almost any set of installation code requirements.
