McPherson thrives and grows
A new Beeghly. More to Templeton, a better Harnly. A new scoreboard, more dorm hours, a better phone system.
A new logo, more money for anthropology and rehg1on through endowments. Some fa1rly substantial changes, don' t you th.nkl
Plans for the future include a
new gymnas1um, a new computer system, 1987 centennial celebrat1on.
The following pages serve as a reminder of the activities, the people, and the personalities which continue to force McPherson College to thrive and grow after all these rears.

1981 Battling Bulldogs The first season for head coach Dave Cripe was a tough one. Although going fi ve
straight games without a win, he kept the attitude of the players on the right path by reminding them that "the successful person is the one who picks himself up and tries again."
With this prospective, 43 players made it through the arduous "gumdeus" in the misty mornings of August while the rest of the campus slept. They made it through the infamous "X" drill in the heat and humidity. They even survived the culinary delights of the pre-game "meals." All in all they made it through a long and difficult season in which success always seemed another step away.
Everyone is aware that one of the objects of competition is to win. In this regard a 2-7 record does not constitute a successful season. But to the players that participated and to the fans that followed the emotion and determination that were displayed, the season was a success!

The '81 season was a year of much improvement for the lady Red Volleyball team. The 2-14 conference record of t.he previous season was over-shadowed by this year's 7-9 record.
It took a lot of hard work and determination to achieve that goal, but the effort was cewarded. Two players were named to the AII-KCAC team, Valecia Kelly, sophbmorc, and Deb Rel!ele, Senior.
Rel!ele will be the only player lost to graduation so next year's team woll be built around a strong nucleus of veteran players working to exceed this year's record.

Tfte Mac Soccer Club dod not faor so well against theor opponents during theor fall season. The Soccer Club lost 8 of theor 10 matches against area colleges, usually by no more than 1 to 3 goals. However, the club did manage to attain a toe with Central College to place the record at 0-8-1.
onetheless, the Soccer Club's co-captaons Stuart Knoll and Phil King were very optimostic about the Spring season. This was due to the more intense playong of last season because the basocally "green" squad gained the much needed experience for better calibre players.
The Spring season for the Mac Soccer Club will be spent playing in the newly formed College Soccer league.
