1 Dzongkhag Education Sector Lhuentse. Profile – 2010 Background of Education System in Lhuentse Modern education system was introduced in Lhuentse in late 1950’s. The classes were conducted in Dzongs. In 1959 Lhuentse Pry School was established by Lhuenste Dzongpon.It was then around 1962, Zangkhar Primary School was opened as the second school in Lhuentse. Today, Lhuentse has 27 schools providing education to about 3948 students. Besides, there are at the moment 50 Non Formal Education (NFE) Centres. More centers are expected to be opened during the current year. There are at present about 525 learners in total. Sector Vision Statement: To be the best Dzongkhag in the country in terms of education service delivery through the employment of the five pillars of quality Education such as quality teachers, quality curriculum, quality teaching, quality instructional time and quality infrastructure in a child friendly school atmosphere. Sector Mission Statement: Employment of Data-based record keeping for easier reference/ tabulation and time saving. Closely monitor the daily activities of the schools and supporting them wherever necessary. Timely conduction of Dzongkhag level activities and objectively. Deploying fair judgment for training/up gradation/studies i.e. right training to right and deserving person. Expansion of both formal and non-formal education program to achieve the 100 percent literacy level.

Established in 1976 Connected with a 40km feeder road from Lhuentse. Very close to Dungkar Nagtshang and the BHU campus. The school has electricity/computer/fax facilities. Recently connected to B-mobile It is a WFP/primary boarding school/SAP school. School Land: 5.42 Acres

Established in 2003 The school is connected by farm road (about half an hour drive from Phawan Geog Office) and is electrified. The school is equipped with telephone, computer and has a community learning centre(NFE) established in the school. School land: Under Process

Tshochen CPS

Established in 1999 The school is connected by a 20Km. farm road from Autsho. The facilities in the school are all put up through public contribution. Connected with telephone but without electricity WFP assisted school since 2007 School Land: 6.51 Acres

Wambur PS

School Land: 9.68 Acres It is the fourth oldest school established in 1978. Construction of Administrative block, double storey six unit class room and three unit staff quarter is in progress. The school is electrified and is connected with a 10Km farm road from road point(highway) at Budur. The school is equipped with computer/fax and is connected with telephone line. It is also a WFP/primary boarding school

Established in 1991. It is about 5 hrs walk from the road point at Gorgan. The school is WFP assisted school with an area of 12 Acres of land. The construction administrative block and two blocks of three units of academic block c onstruction is in progress.

Established in 1993 with an area of 4.11 Acres The school is the farthest & remotest school in the Dzongkhag. It is about 8hours walk from the road head at Gorgan.

Schools under Jarrey Geog

1 Zangkhar PS 2 Ladrong CPS

Zangkhar Primary Schoolstablished in 1962, The second oldest school in the Dzongkhag. It is a WFP and Primary boarding school

It is about 2 hrs 30min hours walk from the road point at Gorgan on the Lhuentse - Mongar high way. The school is electrified and would be connected by the farm road. The school is also provided with computers. There is a total of 12.79 Acres of School land

Ladrong CPS

Established in 1991 Area : 5.24 acres It is five hours walk from the road point at Autsho. It is a SAP & WFP assisted school. A standard Principal Qtr was constructed in 2008-2009 financial year & the school has initiated the construction of dining hall/kitchen in the school with labour contribution from the community. They have also initiated the construction of water supply with support from RSPN Yumche ECR established with onset of 2010 academic session

Challenges

• Drop outs, especially at Secondary level. • School not being accessible to good communication facilities such as road and landline. • Few Parents reluctant to admit their children in Schools for helping hand at homes. • Lack of good play grounds in most of the Primary/Community schools due to rugged terrain. • Frequent transfer of teachers. • Education for the physically disadvantaged. • Provision of quality Wholesome Education. • Enhancement of Professionalism through conducting many Professional development programs, owing to budget constraints. •

Measures

• Find solutions through need based analysis and open dialogues with the stakeholders concerned. • Identification of vulnerable and intellectually challenged students. • Schools to carry out analysis of their performances and deduce tangible programs for improvement of the school teaching- learning
