Dysplastic Nevi Skin Cancer

Dysplatic Nevi LocationAll portions of skin can be affected by this type of skin
cancer. It would be found in the Epidermis layer of the skin.
Most often on the back, chest, abdomen, buttocks, and scalp
Implications of Dysplastic Nevi & Mitosis
Mitosis increases in dermal component as severity of atypia (abnormality of cells) increases.
Enlarged cytoplasm/nuclei
Symptoms and Signs of Dysplastic Nevi
Precursor of Melanoma
Larger then a pencil eraser (growing)
Darkening moles
Itchiness or bloodiness around mole
Elevated portion in the center of the mole, with a flat, pale, fuzzy border
Fried egg appearance
Who can be affected?Anyone can be affected
Someone with a personal or family history of melanoma is more likely to get it
Begins in early adolescence
What can be done to prevent it?
Do not spend long periods of time in the sun
Use sunscreen
Examine for moles regularly
What can be done to treat it?Undergo a complete cutaneous examination
Continue self examination of other moles
