Technique Principles
Correctanalysisofintestinalparasitesinvolvestakin
afaecalsample,filterinouttheunwanteddebrisandfatcells,andthenexamininunderamicroscopeforHelminthOva,ProtozoalOocysts,andanylarvalstaesthatmaybepresent.Thisprocessoffiltrationistermedconcentrationandresultsinasamplecleanenouhtoviewunderamicroscope,whilststillretaininanyparasitelifecyclestaesfromtheoriinalstoolsample.
Onceconcentrationhastakenplace,arepresentativeportionofthisconcentrateneedstobemicroscopicallyexaminedinordertovisiblyidentifyanyOva,OocystsorLarvalstaesthatarepresent.
Thisrequiresthorouhmixinoftheconcentrate(toensurearepresentativesampleistaken)andthentransferrinadropsizeportiontoamicroscopeslidebeforeplacinacoverslipoverthesamplereadyforexamination.Thisprocedureistimeconsumin,messyandaddscostbyusinaslide,coverslipandpipetteforeachsampleyouwanttoexamine.
TheFE5wasdesinedtoautomatetheaboveprocedureasfaraspossible,removinanyinconsistenciesbetweenusers,toprovideafaster,safer,cleanermethodwhichivesimprovedparasite
IDandeasiersampleviewin.
How does the FE5 work?
Firstly,theFE5Workstationusesasimple3buttonoperationtodrawupsamples,delivertoare-usablemicroscopeslideassembly,andthenflushthrouhwithsalinereadyforthenextsample.
There-usableOpticalSlideAssembly(OSA)actsastheviewinchamber,andthetouchofabuttondeliversaperfectlymixedsampleintotheOSAforanalysis,
instantlyivinyoubothanunstainedandstainedsampletoexamine.NoMessNoFuss!
Four Simple Steps
1. Placetheaspiratorprobeintothetubecontainin
thefaecalconcentrateandadd1mlofsaline.2.
Pressthesamplebuttontodeliveraperfectly
mixedaliquotofsampleintothere-usableOSA (OpticalSlideAssembly).3.
Identifytheparasites.4. Pressthetwopurebuttonstoflushoutthetwo
chambersoftheOSAreadyforthenextsample.
