Debris TrapRejected particles are trapped to prevent extrusion into theSedimentation Cone during centrifugation.

Air/Liquid Seal and Safety LockThe seal prevents the release of biohazardous material. The lockensures the Mixing Chamber and Filter Thimble are removed togetherfor safe disposal.

Sedimentation Cone (High Clarity Polypropylene)Sediment forms in the base of the cone allowing examination for thepresence of helminth eggs or larvae and protozoal cysts or oocysts.

Patented Filter Thimble (High Density Polyethylene)A two stage filtration matrix. Large particles are rejected withoutoccluding the 425m pores. Recovery rate with Parasep iscomparable to traditional sieve method, ie: Ridley-Allen.

Fat Dispersion ChamberA perforated fat dispersion chamber (EC Des.App.000512017) removesthe smaller faecal debris and separates the fat content so that it canbe efficiently removed from the resulting sediment without the useof ether or ethyl acetate.

Fresh SampleIf required unscrew lid and add 8ml of 10%formalin to the mixing chamber and onedrop of surfactant (eg: Triton X-100) toemulsify.Introduce a pea sized (0.5g) faecalsample (equal to one level spoons if using

the spoon on the end of the Parasep).

Mix in thoroughly with theParasep spoon.

Preserved SampleShake or vortex the incoming sample to mix.Transfer 0.5ml equal to 0.5g of sample intoMidi Parasep SF mixing chamber.

Add 7.5ml of 10% formalin/water plus 2drops of Triton X. Screw on filter thimbleand sedimentation cone, etc.

Please adhere to the following guidelines when handling Parasep. To avoid cross contamination the Parasep device should

remain closed at all times except when introducing the sample or when retrieving the final concentrated sample for examination.

Invert Midi Parasepand centrifugeat 200g for two minutes.

Midi Parasepfits all 50ml centrifugebuckets.

Note: To calculate the required RPM for

any centrifuge.

RPM - rotor speed in revs/min.

g- centrifugal force (max.1000g)

r- radius, horizontal distance betweensedimentation cone tip and spindle

centre measured in mm.

Direct MethodUnscrew and discard the filterthimble and mixing tube. Pouroff all the liquid above thesediment.

Pipette one drop of saline orIodine solution onto a slide,add one drop of deposit to thesaline or Iodine. Mix sampleand cover with cover-slip. (Thewhole of the deposit must beexamined).

FE Workstation Method

Unscrew and discard the filterthimble and mixing tube. Pour off allthe liquid above the sediment.

Add 1ml of saline to the sediment.Shake or vortex to re-suspendsample. Insert Aspirator intosuspension and press SAMPLE to

draw 80l into the Optical Slide.(Refer to FE instruction manual).

Seal Midi Parasepby screwing in the filter

thimble and conical tube.

Vortex or shake to emulsify with thesedimentation cone pointing upwards.

The faecal sample may be left for 24hr to

soften and ensure complete bacteriocidal

action has taken place.
