Discovery Day is a day on which the advisory groups throughout the Bentley, Franklin, and Anglo Houses head out into the city to explore all it has to offer. This year the activities were as varied and interesting as the Dwight community. Several of the ninth grade groups took a tour of Rlker’s Island, while a tenth grade advisory tried their hand at Yoga. There were movies, museums, ice-skating in the park, and exotic cuisine from Japanese to Sthlopian. In the end, everyone discovered a little bit more about this versatile city in which we live.

In March, e l e v e n t h and t w e l f t h g r a d e s c i e n c e s t u d e n t s s t u d i e d "both marine and f o r e s t e c o s y s te m s as p a r t o f t h e i r IB c u r r i c u l u m . In A u g u s t , in -com ing n i n t h g r a d e s t u d e n t s s t a y e d a t Sco Lodge San Luis to s t u d y t r o p i c a l e c o lo g y w h ile g e t t i n g t o know t h e i r c l a s s m a t e s . I dare to dream that I have the power to change the world around me,And on this Martin Luther King, Jr. Bay, I pledge to take action to build a more
peaceful world.
This pledge was taken by all the participants of the Dare to Dream Conference, put on by the Dwight School’s Institute for Civic Leadership. This unique event united students from public, parochial, and private schools throughout New York City with world leaders in order to promote world peace. Students were given an oppurtunity, not only to listen to the remarkable leaders present, but to express their own ideas and hopes for peace. ICL encourages students to examine current events, develop con- flict-resolution skills, and take responsible civic action, empowering young people to build a more peaceful world.

In many ways you are a sort of hero to us because you have shown that with hard work and perseverance you can achieve anything you want.
