ProductFeatureOverviewUnplanned dwell time can significantly impact your business with unexpected charges. Dwell Time dashboards offer turnaround time for various phases of your shipping lifecycle, to help you avoid unexpected invoices on your next shipment.

Benefits • Analyze potential cost impact with detailed statistics on number of containers that fall into each

tier • Avoid high risk ports with historically lengthy dwell periods by measuring the time taken

between major events at individual ports • Create a customized view by applying various filters

Key Features • Volume breakdown by dwell tiers for tracking of unexpected demurrage charges • Measure individual port dwell activity between main events • See the breakdown by containers number along with percent from the total volume • Select preferred booker or carrier from the list to see specific statistics

RulesandDefinitionsReporting Logic The purpose of the below dashboard logic is to summarize the overall foundation for calculating Dwell Times. Booking Transportation Plan As part of the Booking process, a Carrier sends INTTRA a Booking Confirmation. With each Confirmation, a Booking Transportation Plan is supplied which contains data attributes such as Start and End Locations for each leg in the voyage, the Estimated Time of Departure (ETD), the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) and Carriage Mode (Inland Water Transport, Maritime Transport, Road Transport, Rail Transport etc.). For the purposes of this dashboard, only legs where Carriage Modes are Inland Water Transport and Maritime Transport are included in the analysis. Container Status Events As part of an agreement with INTTRA participating Carriers, various container status events are sent to INTTRA regularly. With each event, there are additional data attributes supplied by the Carrier such as the Event Date/Time, the Ocean Container Booking Number (i.e. the Carrier Booking Number) and the Location of the event. For the purposes of this dashboard, only six events are included in the analysis – Empty Pick Up (EE), Gate In (I), Vessel Load (AE), Vessel Unload (UV), Gate Out (OA) and Returned (RD). Summary of Dwell Time Logic 1. All Booking Confirmations where either a) the ETD from the first Inland Water/Maritime

mode location from the Transportation Plan >= a rolling 3 months plus current month or b) the ETA from the last Inland Water/Maritime mode location from the Transportation Plan >= a rolling 3 months plus current month. E.g. If today were Jan 3rd, 2020, the dashboard would contain data from Oct 1st, 2019 thru Jan 2nd, 2020.

2. To ensure dwell times can be calculated, only Booking Confirmations where ALL six of the container status events listed above must be present.

3. The container status events must match a Booking Confirmation in order for that Booking to be included in the dashboard. Matching logic as follows:

a. Carrier Booking number and Carrier from container status event must match Carrier Booking Number and Carrier from Booking Confirmation.

b. Export events (EE, I, AE) – only events that match the first leg’s Inland Water/Maritime start location from the Transportation Plan are considered.

c. Import events (UV, OA, RD) – only events that match the last leg’s Inland Water/Maritime end location from the Transportation Plan are considered.

Report Definitions The below terms describe the various fields (either received from the carrier or derived) used throughout the dashboard. Dashboard Filters

• Shipment Stage – Export vs Import. • Dwell Type – Detention, Demurrage or Combined. • Booking Type – The channel from which the Booking was made (INTTRA vs Non-

INTTRA). • Shipment Party – The company location name associated with the Booking (e.g. the

Booker party name, the Freight Forwarder party name, the Shipper party name, etc.). This will depend on customer configuration.

• Carrier Name – The Ocean Shipping Line as stated on the latest Booking version. • City Orig – The city name from the first leg’s Inland Water/Maritime start location. • Country Orig – The country name from the first leg’s Inland Water/Maritime start

location. • City Dest – The city name from the last leg’s Inland Water/Maritime end location. • Country Dest – The country name from the last leg’s Inland Water/Maritime end

location. • Month (Export = ETD; Import = ETA) – When Shipment Stage = Export, the timeframe

is based on the ETD from the first leg’s Inland Water/Maritime start location. When Shipment Stage = Import, the timeframe is based on the ETD from the last leg’s Inland Water/Maritime end location.

• Max Day Parameters – The Max days (Home or Summary tab) can be set to the desired tiering which will apply across the entire dashboard. For example, if Free Days was set to 5, Tier 1 to 10 and Tier 2 to 20 then:

o Free Days = 5 (groups all containers with a dwell time 0-5 days) o Tier 1 = 10 (groups all containers with a dwell time 6-10 days) o Tier 2 = 20 (groups all containers with a dwell time 11-20 days) o ***Tier 3 will group all containers with a dwell time greater than 20 days in this

example. Tier 3 is calculated by default. • Dwell Tier – Filter between tiers – Free Days, Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 – based on Max Day

parameters set above. • Show Tiers? – Filter on Home tab to toggle chart view between Avg. Days view and

Dwell Tier breakdown view (based on Max Day parameters set above).

Metrics and Derived Fields The below measures are calculated based on the filter selections made above. Furthermore, the Dwell Time dashboard calculates the dwell time in days in the following ways based on the selection combinations made using the Shipment Stage and Dwell Time filters from above. Shipment Stage = Export

• Dwell Type o Detention – Days between Empty Pick Up and Gate In. o Demurrage – Days between Gate In and Vessel Load. o Combined – Days between Empty Pick Up and Vessel Load.

Shipment Stage = Import • Dwell Type

o Demurrage – Days between Vessel Unload and Gate Out. o Detention – Days between Gate Out and Returned. o Combined – Days between Vessel Unload and Returned.

• Containers – The total number of containers • Avg. Days Past – The average number of days past between container event dates

based on Shipment Stage and Dwell Type chosen. • Free Days Containers, Tier 1 Containers, Tier 2 Containers, Tier 3 Containers –

Total containers per Dwell Tier type based on Max Day parameters set above. • % Free Days, % Tier 1, % Tier 2, % Tier 3 – Percent of total containers based on Max

Day parameters set above. Additional Fields

• Container Type – The container type description (e.g. 40 High Cube, 40 Standard Dry, etc.).

• INTTRA Reference – INTTRA booking reference number. • OCBN – Carrier booking reference number. • Container Number – Container number related to Booking. • Shipment Party ID – The INTTRA company ID associated with the Booking (e.g. the

Booker party name or the Freight Forwarder party name or the Shipper party name, etc.). This will depend on customer configuration.

• Booker Name – The company location name that made the Booking request.

ReportTabDescriptionThe purpose of the below reporting tab descriptions is to summarize the overall capabilities of each tab within the INTTRA Dwell Time Dashboard. Aside from the Home tab, each tab is interactive (metrics are driven by filter selections or by clicking carrier names or origin-destinations in applicable charts/graphs where seen).

Home This tab provides complete view of dwell time trends for top ports of export/import. Customizable chart allows to set up individual tier – number of days that are provided for free, after how many free days additional charges will be applied.

• Four different charts represent number of containers that fell into different tiers (containers that

been held for free or cause additional charges). Hover over to see exact numbers. • See a breakdown of total number of containers by tier. Hover over to see the exact quantity – how

many containers have been held for free and how many caused additional charges. • Filter “Show Tiers→No” to examine average days between two events rather than container

counts.

Summary This tab offers a breakdown of the charts by shipment stage and dwell type scenario.

• Dwell range stats will change per scenario (Ex: Import + Demurrage=Vessel Unload and Gate Out).

• Enter number of days for each dwell tier and measure the statistics • This chart measures time between Vessel Unload and Gate Out. Hover over any cell to see full

set of data with the exact number of containers. • Mouse over each individual pie chart to see details on the ports such as total containers, container

within free days, and average time past free days • The chart at the bottom can be manipulated to show a wide range of data. Toggling different

selection types (carrier name, city, country, container type, and origin-destination) allows to do multi-dimensional analysis.
