What is population decline?

In a broad sense population decline means reflection on quality of life and society and how to address this.

In a narrow sense population decline means fewer people because of demographic changes.

Causes of demographic changes:

• Natural growth/decline (difference between birth and death rates)

• Net migration (difference between immigration and emigration)

Shrinking related processes: less youngsters and more elderly.
