DURBAN CHRISTIAN CENTRE SCHOOL ~ Grade 3 Assessment Schedule for Term 2 ~

13 April 2015

Dear Parents,

Please find attached all the information about our Term 2 assessments, orals and project. I found that last

term some children did not stay on track with the oral preparation and project work at home. Please set

aside some time to assist your child to prepare orals and work on their projects. If a child does not do an

oral or simply does not hand a project in I have no choice but to give them zero!

You will see on the calendar attached, exactly when each assessment is and what concepts/topics will be

assessed. You will also see the dates on which orals and our project is due. Please see below for more

1. ORAL 1 – An interesting insect

This oral is following with our life skills theme on insects. Each learner is to say an oral on any insect of

their liking. The oral must contain at least 5 facts about the insect and be 1minute long. They are more

than welcome to use a poster to enhance their oral. However, in the past children have stood and simply

read all the information off their poster or key-cards and made no eye contact at all. That is NOT an oral!

Please help your child learn what they need to share with the class. Also allow them to practice with an

audience at home.

2. PROJECT – A Life Cycle

The project for this term is to make a poster that shows the Life Cycle of any animal. The poster should

clearly show the different stages that the animal goes through until it reaches maturity or becomes an

adult. Your child will need to name each stage and write a few sentences to explain how the animal

matures and changes.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The poster should be done on a piece of A2 sized cardboard. Use up all the space on the cardboard;

don’t squash everything in one corner!

You may use any colour cardboard you want, but you must make sure you can still read all the

information on the cardboard.

Read through all the information on the poster carefully. It must make sense, and I don’t want to see

any spelling mistakes!

3. ORAL 2 – A how-to demonstration

This oral is about demonstrating a set of instructions to the class that result in something being made or a

task being completed. Some examples: how to make a sandwich, how to make pancakes, how to wash

dishes, how to cross the road and so on.

For your interest I have attached below the assessment rubrics I will use when assessing the project and

orals.

Life Skills books will be sent home during the week and weekend for revision. Please make sure

they come back the next day! This is a good opportunity to see how your child is progressing in

Grade 3 and to ask them some questions in preparation for their assessments.

If there is something you are concerned about please don’t hesitate contacting us!

God Bless

Mrs McArthur and Miss Moodley
