That was the word being used to describe the Year 10 Pop Up Restaurant last Tuesday night. The hall was sectioned off and lanterns, fairy lights and table centres helped transform it into an elegant restaurant. The students prepared and served their guests an al-ternate 3 course menu. The night was the culmination of the unit of works Food Service and Catering and Foods for special occasions. The students worked professionally and once again, upheld our school mot-

Hello everyone. This week we will bid farewell to Maren Niemann, one of our very special exchange students, who has become a part of the Dunedoo Central School community. Maren, from Germany, has resided with three Dunedoo families during her year’s visit to Australia: the Sullivans; the Fergussons and the Gallaghers. She has developed lifelong friendships with a number of students and has enriched the lives of everyone who has been fortunate enough to know her. Maren has gained a very spe-cial perspective of rural Australia and has enjoyed the family and farming aspects of our small community. She will leave for Sydney on Friday after a very fond farewell. The Year 7 Transition Day went very well with all students enjoying the activities. The evening BBQ was well attended, with 24 students and their parents enjoying the informal atmosphere and the chance to catch up with old friends and make new friends. Whilst the Disco took place we conducted our final P&C meeting for the year. A number of new parents joined us for the meet-ing. President Todd Fergusson ran an enjoyable meeting that discussed a range of issues before we viewed the analysis of the Parent Survey which encouraged dialogue about a number of subjects of concern outlined by parents. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Todd and his team for the tremendous effort they have provided to support the students of our school this year. One of the key issues of concern outlined in the meeting was the lack of volunteer helpers for the canteen. With only five days covered out of the next twenty we are very worried that Jenny Farley will not receive the support she needs to keep the canteen open every day. With a change in bell time for the Primary timetable , we will always need two people operating the canteen at all times to serve both Primary and Secondary students satisfactorily. We need the help of more parents. So if any parents can spare the time, we need your help please. Today the finals of the school Public Speaking Competition are due to take place. I would like to congratulate every student in the school for preparing and presenting a speech to their class. This has been a fantastic experience as it helps students to over-come that extreme nervousness of speaking in front of others. It is a great life experience as at some stage in everyone’s life they will have to make a special speech of some kind. By practising at school, you learn a successful structure and gain the confi-dence for later opportunities whether they be business or family orientated. Our Year 9/10 students this week will participate in the “Love Bites” program which focuses on creating healthy relationships. The program for boys and girls establishes the norms for how the genders are expected to treat each other and how relationships can strengthen through understanding and knowledge of each others perspectives. Morgan O’Reilly, from the NSW Nursing Service, will outline society’s expectations, norms, false assumptions and some legal matters concerning relationships. Congratulations Year 10 Food Technology students on a wonderful Pop Up restaurant featuring a stunning decor and fine dining cuisine. Sixty parents enjoyed a delectable three course meal served by a team of sixteen well-trained servers of the highest calibre. Once again the hard work of Mrs. Scifleet and Mrs Fergusson has successfully transitioned a group of students into a quality workforce commented on by many who attended the evening. We have two new students joining us this week , Grace Smith of Year 9, from Coonabarabran High School and Jack Binckx of Year 2, who is joining us from Mendooran Central. I hope these students enjoy their classes at Dunedoo Central School. This week sees Year 10 participate in their Deportment day, followed by training in First Aid. The Xmas Scripture Assembly will take place on Friday in the Hall. Enjoy your week! Peter Campbell Principal

Kinder, Year 1 & Year 2

Thank you to everyone who have returned the swimming notes. All children need to return a note to go to the pool on Monday. The cost is $2.50 per day or Season Ticket. Remember, we need lots of helpers to run this program so let us know how you can help! This is the last week that children may borrow books from the Library—please return any overdue books. The Infants children will be involved in the Scripture Concert on Friday at 9.00am in the Hall. Please come along and join in the fun. Mrs. M. Abbott Kinder/Year 1: Welcome to Week 8—how quickly Term 4 is coming to an end. Thank you to all the “get well” wishes I received. I am fit and well again and will remember to wear gloves when pruning! Kinder will revise the sounds “ar”, “er” and “ai” and look at all the ways “ie” can sound, e.g. “ie”, “y”, “i-e” and “ign”. Yr. 1’s Spelling Words contain “au” as in “Autumn” and “Haunt” and their grammar focus is again looking at questions. In Maths, Kinder will continue to revise the Number Strand whilst Yr 1 will learn about Equal Number Sentences and Number Patterns on a Calculator. Don’t forget to return swimming notes promptly. If we don’t have enough people prepared to get in the water and take a group, we will not be able to run the program. Congratulations to Thomas Martin, our student of the week and to Deakyn Smith and Brooke Cooke, who received merit certificates. Mrs. E. Yeo Year 1/2: Welcome to Week 8—I hope you all had a nice weekend. This week in Spelling the Year 1 sound is “au” as in “fault” and Yr. 2 will study “ore” sound as in “wore” and “store”. In Maths, Yr. 1 will learn about Equal Number Sentences and Number Patterns on a Calculator. Yr. 2 will learn about Balancing Collections, Equal Number Sentences, Chance and Symmetry. This week is also the last week for written homework due to Swimming. We will still continue with Readers. I have been really impressed with the speeches I have heard so far. Well done to everyone. We will continue to listen to speeches throughout the week so if you haven’t done one yet there is still time. Have a great week and keep smiling!! Mrs. M. Abbott

What a great night we had last Thursday! A wonderful BBQ cooked by Mr Campbell and Mr Hall for Year 6, and a great movie-themed disco. So many great costumes, all the students (and their parents) should be very proud of their efforts! Swimming continues this Friday. $2.50 entry or season ticket. All students are expected to change back into their school uniform after swimming. Swimmers are not to be worn back to school. Well done to our public speakers last week, and congratulations to our Year 6 representatives this morning during the Junior Public Speaking Finals. A big thankyou to Mrs Elith for volunteering to judge the competition this year. I am pleased to announce that we have rescheduled the Netball NSW Clinic that was postponed to Friday 13th December. Infants/Primary are making some minor modifications to bell times next year. This will increase face to face teaching time and allow specialist subject teachers to continue working with our Primary students. The changes have been approved by the school executive and the P&C. The main changes will be a shift in start/finish times to 9am to 3pm (currently 8.55 to 2.55), and a short-ened lunch break (12.40-1.30). Some minor playground and canteen issues are still to be worked out, and if you have any que-ries contact me at school. Bus times will not be affected by the changes in bell times. A full rationale and list of bell times will be in next week’s newsletter. Enjoy your week. Year 3/4: Well done to everyone in the class who gave their speech for the public speaking competition. They did a wonderful job presenting in front of the class and there were definitely some well researched ideas. In class this week we will complete the last of our end of year assessments. In Maths, Year 3 will be working with data, graphs and timelines. News topic this week is ‘an interesting country’. Students need to research a country (other than Australia) and tell us what makes it interesting. Have a good week. Mr. B. Kline Year 4/5: Welcome to Week 8 everyone, well done to all the students in the class who have reached the highest ACE levels this year. The ACE reward days will be happening this week for students who have qualified. More information will go out to stu-dents as needed. Congratulations! This week in Maths, Year 4 will finalise Maths Assessments in order for me to finalise end of year report marks and comments. Have a great week everybody! Mr. A Honeysett Year 5/6: HSIE ‘Australian Identity’ assignments are due this Wednesday! Some students got a wriggle on in class last week, and some are finding out what it means to work to a deadline! It’s all a learning experience, and from the tasks I have viewed I am very happy with the quality of work being produced. Some excellent work in Year 5 maths last week, consolidating our knowledge of decimals and fractions. This week we will revise and complete our Maths Diagnostic Test, as well as other class assessment. Assessments in Spelling, Grammar and Writing will be completed this week. Well done to all our public speakers last week, the quality and effort shown by students was fantastic. Congratulations to Sally and Bella on their speeches, and their participation in the finals today. Mr. J. Wilson

Hello for Week 8 At the last Canteen Committee Meeting—the committee asked about our volunteer situation. When informing them my current list is 7 with only 5 being parents the committee were horrified and would like to take action. I am pleading with all parents to PLEASE come and volunteer. The days that I don’t have a volunteer, I either do it all myself (which makes your child wait) or call on the Admin Staff to help me at serving times, which is taking them away from their jobs. I need help, especially between the times of 10.45 to 1.30pm.

Year6into7TransitionDay On Thursday 21st November the Dunedoo Central School Year 6 into 7 Transition Day was held. It was a very successful day with 24 students involved in a range of fun and engaging activities. Mrs. Fergusson had the group in the kitchen and they cooked delicious pancakes. Mr. Edwards taught an enlightening English lesson heavily focused on the evolution of language and literacy skills. Mr. Constant ran a very engaging metalwork lesson where students had the opportunity to create a metal name tag for their bag or pencil case. This involved much sawing, filing, drilling and metal-twisting. Mrs. Stoddart ran an interesting Science lesson where the students learnt about acids and bases by dipping litmus paper into various substances. Mrs. Hogden helped to organise a variety of fun relay activities at the town pool which went down a splash! All of the ladies in the front office deserve a special thanks for all of their hard work behind the scenes in helping me to prepare for the day. Later that evening a BBQ was held to welcome parents. Compliments go to our master chef Mr. Campbell. I would like to extend a big thank you to all the above people for assisting on the day and especially to the SRC who organised the night’s disco. All students had a great day and are keen for next year’s movement into Year 7. Mr. Hall Year 7 Advisor 2014

Last Monday, Years 9 and 10 History attended a Site Study at the Dunedoo Muse- um and War Memorial. This was an opportunity for DCS students to use the skills they have learned in class to examine and evaluate sources to find out more about local history. Some of the stu-dents had never been to the museum before and were pleasantly surprised by the fascinating historical artefacts, machinery, photographs and documents. Many of them learned a lot and there were also a few who took the opportunity to be really annoying. For an idea of how much Dunedoo Central’s History students and staff enjoyed the Muse-um, check out the following testimonials…

The students and teachers of Dunedoo Central School would like to extend our profuse thanks to the friendly and helpful volunteers of the Dunedoo Historical Society, who were there on the day to help students with their enquiries. Thank you to Joe and Irene Inder and John Horne for making the Site Study an interesting, informative and enjoyable experience for the students of Dunedoo Central School!

Mr. Edwards

Kaitlin Gallagher, a Year 10 History student said The musty smell in the Museum really took me back to Australia’s past. It gave the whole experience an authentic quality. Sam Foran, also from Year 10 said, This really is very interesting, sir! Jayden Carpenter, another Year 10 History student commented that the Site Study was Boom! Sorry, bro! Mr. Hall, the shortest guy in the English and History Department, said a lot of things that there is insufficient space to record here.
